Laura is a talented harpist, no doubt. We received compliments from many guests. We had Laura play a variety of contemporary and classic songs. She sent over a CD with music samples of popular selections. She was very nice about playing samples over the phone before I signed the contract with her. After I signed, however, I did not hear from her again (since we had planned out all the processional, recessional, and cocktail music in advance). Make sure you do most of your big decision making before signing the contract.

The one negative feedback I received was from some close family about her behavior during the ceremony. Apparently she was situated in a spot where she could not see me, the bride, come out onto the lawn for the processional. My guests told me that she "barked" orders and comments such as "IS THE BRIDE COMING YET? IS SHE HERE YET?!" I was so embarrassed to hear this and shocked to hear about how unprofessional this was. She was a preferred vendor with the Fairmont Hotel, and supposedly, should have been familiar with the layout of the ceremony lawn. Why she couldn't see me is a mystery.

Needless to say, I did not tip her. My processional song was ruined and started very late into my march down the aisle. I unfortunately, and distastefully, had to march down part of the aisle to Pomp and Circumstance or something like that.

We were invited by Laura Simpson to come to the Ritz and hear her play the harp in December 2009. After hearing her play we hired her for our wedding - May 22, 2010. We sent Laura a deposit check and signed contract with her at that time. I received a phone call from Laura this morning at 7:30 that she would be unable to play for wedding because she was taking a more important engagement to play for the Napa Symphony. She passed this news on to my fiance and I a little over a week before our wedding - which we consider to be terribly unprofessional. We are completely disappointed and left without a harpist on our wedding day. While I understand that playing for the Napa Symphony is much more prestigious opportunity for Laura to play and only happens once year (as Laura explained to me) for me - my wedding day is once in a lifetime opportunity. I'm still dealing with the aftermath but wanted to make sure this was posted to hopefully save some other future brides from being in the same predicament I'm in now.
