This quartet was great for our wedding. They performed in September 2009 where our family and guests were very pleased with the type of music that was perfomed. This wedding was outside in a private backyard. The quartet was an added touch for our wedding.

I love the Mallette String Quartet. They have such a large repertoire of music - they even have rock pieces, which some of my younger guests really enjoyed. I found them to be thorough and professional. I especially appreciated their attention to detail and in their interest that our ceremony proceed smoothly. We received many positive comments from our guests. BRAVO on a wonderful performance!!!

DO NOT HIRE THIS QUARTET... PERIOD, it is not worth the headache.

We hired Mallette for an outdoor, January wedding and agreed to all conditions and requirements that were presented. TWO days before the wedding, Mr. Mallette called to see if we would be moving the outdoor ceremony indoors. (We were married at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica at sunset) I spent 35 minutes on the phone with him trying to sell me on why the quartet needed to perform indoors because outside would be too cold and uncomfortable. I had to tell him numerous times we would not move it indoors unless it was raining, however we would provide heaters and shielded from any winds.

Since I was firm on not moving the ceremony indoors Mr. Mallette's response consisted of, "I suppose we will do what we can", "I will not bring my good instruments", etc.

Bruce Mallette was patronizing (and continues to be in his rebuttal statements) telling me he's seen how "these things" turn out since he's done this hundreds of times, yet this was my first so I couldn't possibly be able to plan accordingly.

The performance was so out of tune the video requires additional editing and more than a few guests commented on their disappointment.

Given the lack of professionalism and flexibility, not to mention poor performance - Had I not paid in full prior to the date, I would have hired someone else.

***********
In response to the rebuttal from Mallette Strings... We had an easy back up plan for both the ceremony and cocktail hour if the weather required, neither the wedding planner or hotel director had any concern - we added heat lamps for the guests.

There was no lack of comprehension in what the musicians require - it was clearly stated and agreed to at the time of contract and payment. My issue with your services had to do with the way it was handled before, during and now. There is no excuse for a bad performance when it comes to such a "professional".

It should be noted to other brides that you were condescending and annoyed in your statements that an outdoor wedding was not to your liking, since this was the only wedding I'd planned and you'd seen so many mistakes. The way it was handled was rude and unprofessional, had the approach been different, I could have provided more heat lamps than those already set up near you. But after your complaints to me and negative disposition at the event, I chose not to since they would have been at a cost to us.

I stand by my comments and gave each vendor I hired freedom to do their job as they'd been hired. Of other 10+ vendors I hired, they all got 5 star reviews.

To put it into perspective the comments of my character by Mr. Mallette, my wedding favors were never delivered... but the way it was handled by the company was appreciated and all you can do in a bad situation... I have not, and will not, post a poor review for them because it was handled accordingly.

Bruce Mallette was the only negative in the otherwise perfect day, hiring him is not worth the stress - More importantly, poor performance.

Mallette String Quartet responded with the following comments:

In rebuttal and clarification to the review at hand...

With all due respect…objectively speaking, overall to be considered a somewhat inane misquoted misinterpretation, inaccurate myopic, in conjunction with some obvious degree in lack of ability in comprehension, regarding the unique essential requirements necessary in optimizing musicians' outside cold weather professional performance.

A late afternoon/early evening ceremony (approximately at sunset, with lows forcasted for the mid 40s – accessing the latest weather forecast the day of the event)...unfortunately insufficent heat was provided, thus necessitating a performance whereas the musicians had to utilize gloves; temperatures that can pose a threat to stringed instruments.

*Wedding Couples Tip* – Plan “realistically” in conjunction with your wedding coordinator, regarding the setup at your designated venue for your event. We’ve performed at several occasions (inclement weather rain and cold) whereas as the general setup, tables, chairs, wedding decorations, etc., had to be relocated inside at the last moment, due to unsuitable weather, delaying the proceedings. Additionally, where rain was involved, extra time had to be allotted for general “wipe down” of all chairs and tables etc.

Providing the correct foundation for professional performance (outside or inside), whether this be adequate heat for cold conditions, shade cover/shelter from the sun for protection of instruments in hot weather and ample space for the music ensemble, (all, essentially standard protocol for professional musicians) reinforces optimal professional level performance, for any event, and translates to a heightened musical experience for clients and guests.

**************************

I stand by my rebuttal.

It is common to track weather forecasts and make changes or adjustments (ensure adequate heat etc.) if necessary up to and including the day of the event. If there was any lack of flexibility, it was on the other end. Again, simply put, specifically as per the contract for outdoor cold weather performance, adequate heat should have been provided so as to optimize performance and it wasn't.

Frankly speaking, this was and is one of those rare occuring 1% (disingenuous, high maintenance, overally reactive/insecure client) situations. Such scenerios always reinforce our appreciation for the other 99%, whereas this is not the issue...as our 20 year track record/experience has proven. We've been fortunate...but again, there will always be somebody; it's part of the territory so to speak...end of story; or as is said in the recording business, "that's a wrap."

Mallette String Quartet provided music for our wedding ceremony & Hors d'œuvre hour. Very talented & professional musicians who play a wide variety.

We booked them for three hours (our ceremony and reception were in different places) for a very reasonable price and we were extremely pleased. I had a vision for the ceremony music, and they were so wonderful to work with. Their help was invaluable toward making my day perfect!

The Mallette String Quartet provided my cocktail hour/ceremony music, and they were superb! I booked them for a 2 hour span, and it was just the right amount of time. They are lots of bang for your buck.
