About Maryland Historical SocietyFounded in 1844, the Maryland Historical Society is the longest running cultural institution in the state. Over the years we have accquired an unparalleled collection with over 350,000 objects and seven million books and documents relating to Maryland history. It is a collection that connects all of us to America's past. Our campus is located in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, just two blocks from the iconic Washington Monument. The campus sprawls across an entire city block and is a combination of classic Baltimore architecture and high modern design. Enoch Pratt's 1844 mansion anchors the north wing and a state of the art, three story gallery facility sits on the south wing. Two outdoor gardens complement the structures, providing rare green space in Baltimore city! Equally rare in the city is a 50 car parking lot.
