MBG is such a beautiful place, but it's a shame working with them is such a nightmare. I would cautiously recommend using them purely because of the amazing gardens and that my wedding was absolutely beautiful. However. The rental department is impossible to get in touch with. If you are looking into MBG for your wedding, write down and ask EVERY QUESTION IMAGINABLE. I would say email them so everything is in writing but you won't receive an answer. For example, you have to specifically ask to reserve the brides room otherwise that's not a part of your rental. What? We also got the surprise on the morning of the wedding that we didn't get the groom's room for all the guys to get dressed in. Well we did but they didn't have it down. So on my wedding day, I'm having to go back through all my papers to find PROOF that we reserved this room. I found that a little ridiculous. Overall, the place is beautiful. But be careful in using them and keep every piece of paper they give you, especially if it has pricing on it!

Jennifer Savage, the event coordinator, is very difficult to reach by email and almost impossible to contact by phone. She always appears to be in hurry and you get the feeling you are bothering her if you have several questions. Botanical Gardens needs to hire a person who is available and accessible to a bride or her planner. A girl's wedding day is one of the most important days of her life, and vendors need to be professional, responsive, and caring when a bride selects them to be a part of her special day.

Botanical Gardens does not list the time the reception room will be available on the day of the wedding, although you are reassured when you sign the contract that you will have adequate time to decorate. The Goldsmith Room, our reception venue, was also the rain option for our outdoor wedding, For a wedding that was to begin at 6:00 p.m., we were not granted access to the room until 3:00 that afternoon because Jennifer scheduled an event that did not end until 3:00. In hindsight, I would not sign the contract unless they add information that gives the exact time the room will be available that day. Thank goodness we had a phenomenal decorator who came in with his team and transformed the room into an enchanted scene in 3 short hours.

The conference room, which doubled as the Bride's Room, was dirty and I had to have someone to come and clean it when I arrived on the day of the wedding. I had asked for the large table to be removed to make more room for the wedding party, but this was not done. On the day of the wedding, there is no contact person and you are at the mercy of the ladies at the information desk.

Although my daughter's wedding and reception were beautiful, I was extremely disappointed in the customer service I encountered with this venue.

The venue was beautiful. We initially felt that we were getting a bargain for such a scenic place - price approx. $1850 (+ $600 to have the wedding outdoors in any of the various gardens). However, you MUST use one of their approved caterers, which I'll admit wasn't so bad. You also have to use their bar or have all cash bar. They wouldn't even let us supply our own keg or a little champagne for toasts. Everything had to come from them. They also nickel-and-dime you on every little detail - chairs, linens, set-up fees - and, after all said and done, we spent SO MUCH more than anticipated because of this. Also, if you are having your wedding there, they still rent out the venue to other parties. There was a kiddie birthday party as well as another party going on at the same time as our wedding. If you are having your ceremony outside, be prepared for the possibility of loud music wafting into your ceremony from the Dixon across the street or from any other event(s) the Botanic Gardens has concurrently scheduled at the same time.
There's no wedding coordinator. If you schedule an appointment to view the venue and get information, the lady that presents herself as coordinator is actually "director of rental sales." After you sign a contract she is ZERO help. The room she showed us as the "bride room" was actually the "conference room." But on the day of the wedding, after using the ugly conference room, we discovered there was a beautiful "bride room" (even said "bride room" on the door!!) on the other side of the lobby. I'll never understand why she told us the conference room doubled as the bride room when there is actually a very nice bride room!! She was also extremely difficult to reach, even just to give us answers to simple questions! She is ALWAYS out of the office. We had to hire a coordinator separately to help us put together the ceremony. We ended up having the ceremony inside on account of rain and still no refund on that $600 fee.

Loved everything about this venue! Jennifer was amazing to work with. She was very helpful and flexible in working without very unique multi-cultural wedding. She streamlined much of the process by helping coordinate with many other vendors.

Botanic Gardens is a BEAUTIFUL venue, but it comes at a price. You will be nickeled and dimed for EVERYTHING! The dance floor-extra. The tram-extra. To use the newest pavillon-extra. There is a cost to rent the reception hall and a separate price for the wedding ceremony. You must use their bar services, which are pricey. Flexibility- forget it. The rules are the rules!
The event coordinator is nice enough, but more than likely over-worked with not enough help. She never seems to really have the time to deal with you- always seems rushed to "get it over with", whether it's a phone call or a meeting, in order to move on to the next task.
I'm sure this is ideal in many settings, however, when a bride is spending thousands of dollars, the last thing you want to feel is rushed or like you are being bothersome and hindering another task from being done. Don't bother leaving a message- none of my calls were ever returned! You will do much better with email (maybe), otherwise just keep calling until you get her (after all, you're just planning a wedding). Closer to your wedding date, you will get called to confirm details, but don't look for much else.
Also, make sure your rain alternative is REALLY available (if doing an outdoor ceremony). Luckily, it did not rain on my wedding date, since another event was going on in the lobby which was my designated rain spot.
On the plus side, they do have 8 bistro tables for use at no charge, the brides room is nice (though it was not cleaned from the previous wedding on my day), and it IS a pretty venue and will make for great pics.

The botanic garden is an absolutely beautiful setting for a wedding and there are many different areas you can choose to have either your ceremony, reception or both in. It is secure, you don't have to worry about your guests having enough parking spaces and it's really nice that they make all the gardens available to you and your guests so you can explore and walk around during the reception.

Now, on to the negative things: it is really expensive for what you get; you have to use their bar services and pay a hefty price for the very limited alcohol choices they have; the event coordinator/contact person there is awful about communicating and not very professional or helpful in general--she is really difficult to get in touch with, never responds in a prompt manner and isn't very good about answering questions fully; the botanic garden basically offers nothing in the way of amenities after you book them as your wedding venue-you don't get chairs for the ceremony, don't have a representative from there to help with coordinating things on the day of the wedding, no decorations of any kind (although in the right season the garden itself would provide decoration enough). And apparently they don't even really provide anyone to kind of check out the place before the wedding to make sure everything is looking OK or something because we found a dead mouse in the garden where we were having the ceremony that we had to clean up ourselves. Overall, I expected much more out of the botanic garden especially since they charge so much for the use of their facilities+the cost of their alcohol. I would have been much more satisfied if the event coordinator had been more professional/helpful/easy to get in touch with or easier to communicate with in general.

It was a beautiful place to get married at and lots of great photo ops! Price was a little steep for a 30 minute ceremony but it is what it is. They couldn't find our check that paid our balance, and yes, we did bring it but they did find ultimately find it. Other than that, I loved everything about getting married at MBG!

Botanic Gardens is beautiful but pricey. Not a fan of outdoor weddings to chancy for bad weather, not their fault. Service was good I got everything I asked for. Jennifer was professional and made some helpful suggestions, but hard to contact. Room was beautiful and large, policies are extremely strict.
