This place is SPECIAL. I kind of don't want to blow it up so that my pals can all get married here, too. It felt like love at first sight when we walked in and explored this super unique spot, and we just vibed well with the staff including Amanda, Carlos and even Eleanor one of the times we dropped in -- in addition to the peripheral staff who are also lovely and helpful. whose names escape me right now. This is the perfect venue for you if you are a holistic kind of event planner and work with the room; Carlos is very responsive by phone and they are EXPERTS at figuring out logistics of what you're envisioning, just put in the time to come in and speak in person b/c it's worth it! We can't believe a place like this exists in New York City and our wedding felt romantic & intimate with the background of the city...thank you team, this was very fantastic!

My husband and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Metropolitan Building. Working with them has been such a fantastic and unique experience. From the first visit, we knew this was the perfect space for us to host our wedding and promise our lives to each other. We used the 4th Floor and it was truly magical.

Carlos, Amanda and their team blew us away. They are so detailed oriented, laid back, reliable and so helpful in every way.
I wanted to hang patio lights from the ceiling and Carlos and his team took care of putting them up and taking them down, no problem. Carlos also met with my Husband and I on multiple occasions to walk the space and discuss ideas and always answered my calls and emails.

Seeing the Metropolitan transformed into our dream wedding blew us and our guests away. It was beyond magical. If you are a laid back couple looking to work with good people that take their word and promises seriously, then I would suggest you work with them. The Metropolitan Building made our dream wedding a reality and we cannot say enough wonderful things about them!

Thank you for making the start of our marriage so special and we can't wait to attend other weddings here!

My husband and I LOVED this place and could not have asked for a better venue for our wedding! The moment we stepped onto the 4th floor, we know it was the one. From the amazing skylight to the high ceilings to the exposed brick to the little nooks and crannies of the pavilion and library to the amazing pieces of antique furniture you can pick out for your wedding day. It was everything we've ever hoped for.

The Metropolitan Building is a raw space venue - so while they do offer in-house catering, everything else must be brought in separately. They offer two floors to host weddings. The 2nd floor has a romantic, vintage charm and holds up to 150 while the 4th floor is more of the rustic side and holds up to 200. Both the 2nd and 4th floor spaces have a ton of character so you can bring as little or as much decor in as you'd like. We were a heavy DIY wedding on top of choosing a raw space venue, so we knew we had a lot of planning to do. We went with an outside caterer and we ensured most of the vendors we chose were at least familiar with the building (so important!) They have an open house every Saturday from 10-2pm which we definitely used to our advantage to visit again and again to plan out our vision.

The manager Carlos is one of the best people you could ever have on your side during a stressful time such as wedding planning! He always answered his phone, answered our incessant questions, and more importantly, calmed our worries.

As mentioned in other reviews, if you decide to have your wedding at the Metropolitan Building, be prepared for old school communication (checks only and the contract was a single sheet of paper). With that in mind, I'd recommend the Metropolitan Building 200%. I can't count how many guests came up to us to ask us how we found this hidden gem!

Simply put, The Metropolitan Building is amazing.

My husband and I were mere moments away from booking a different venue when The Metropolitan Building came into the picture. We were looking for a particular style - something unique with charm and character that wasn’t your typical wedding venue, the ability to DIY as much as we wanted but stay in budget, and fit our vintage travel theme occasion. It sounded pretty impossible to us, but we found exactly that. We fell in love with the building the moment we walked through the doors.

Here are some of the reasons why we thought this space was the best venue, with the best value:
-Endless charm and personality. Both the 2nd floor and 4th floor are completely unique and different from the other. At night, it’s gorgeous, romantic, and magical. Our guests are still talking about how amazing our venue was!
-The flat fee to rent your space - any day, any season. Just awesome and completely affordable.
-The ability to visit the space with whomever however many times you want during the Saturday Open Houses. We took advantage of that big time!
-Access to the 3rd floor on your special day for photos (and there are endless photo ops on the 3rd floor!). You also are able to choose from the wonderful pieces ranging from couches, trunks, chairs, mirrors, furniture, tables, etc. at no additional expense to decorate your space the day of. This is HUGE when you are having a DIY wedding!
-With that, Carlos! Carlos and his crew were the best. He was helpful, knowledgeable, gave us a hand when we needed it, oversaw set up and break down, strung edison bulbs, did everything you could imagine and then some more. We were lucky enough to get access to the building a couple days before our wedding to set it up exactly how we wanted which was a big deal because we were very hands on. Carlos was there the whole time helping us choose and arrange the furniture we selected and giving us suggestions.

The Metropolitan Building is just magical. It's charming, elegant, laid-back, and quirky (in a good way). We got married on the 2nd floor. There are three separate areas for ceremony/dancing, dinner, and cocktails. We loved that there was movement and that we weren't stuck in one big room all night. They have an extensive collection of props that you can use to decorate the space, but we didn't have to do much because the place itself already has so much character.

The process for planning a wedding here is very DIY, but we were in good hands. Carlos, the manager, was such a gem. We had so many questions in the months leading up to our wedding and he was always quick to respond. He also makes sure that everything runs smoothly on the day of. We used the in-house caterer, too, and got so many compliments on the food.

I was a bride on a budget, and I have to say, the rates here are incredibly reasonable compared to other places of the same ilk. Highly recommend it!

This was one of the most memorable details of the wedding! Our guests are still talking about how amazing our wedding venue was. Our wedding had a 1920's vintage theme, and The Metropolitan Building was the perfect space for it.

I loved the fact that all of the props within the building were available for use! Minimal decor was needed. Carlos and his team were phenomenal and very accommodating. Our ceremony began at 11:00 am, and Carlos allowed us to arrive extra early for set up! That was so helpful. Our guests had the time of of their lives, and the pictures in this space were breathtaking! Absolutely recommend.

I got married on the second floor in October and it was the perfect venue for us! It's beautiful, quirky, and ecetelctic - definitely not your average banquet hall. Carlos is absolutely amazing - there is no need to hire a day of coordinator because he will handle it all for you. He and his team set up and hung out lights for us the day of and they made sure everything went smoothly the whole night. We had no problems! The communication can seem old fashioned there (they don't really email) but you just have to go with it. Carlos is clearly a wedding pro! We also used the caterer Sasha and were very pleased with that too. If you are looking for somewhere different to get married in NYC the metropolitan building is absolutely the way to go!

What is there to say about this piece of heaven in LIC? Every single one of our guests was blown away by the aesthetic and couldn't say enough about how it was visually so incredibly lovely. We had an evening wedding on the 2nd floor and the twinkly lights and chandeliers caused the space to glow. The only memory I have of walking into the ceremony was seeing my groom and the golden lights against the twilight outside. It was so cozy and warm.

The third floor provides an incredible spot for photos - so much texture and great backdrops and the lighting through the big windows is beautiful. Our photographer (Keith Ferris) called it a photographer's playground. The venue also allows you to use all of the onsite vintage furniture to decorate so you can customize the space to your own vision....definitely NOT a wedding factory. In fact, I asked for some chairs to be arranged for elderly guests for the cocktail hour and they set up beautiful seating arrangements with vintage couches and chairs.

Amanda Bruns is a delight to work with. She is responsive and helpful. Absolutely makes things easier. Carlos, the facilities manager, is fabulous and has a great staff who are so willing to work with you and help.

The only thing that is less than perfect is that the in-house caterer, Sasha, is not as responsive early on in the process. She gets completely fine as you get towards your date - within 2-3 weeks of the event - but if you are someone who wants more hands on guidance, understand that this will eventually happen with excellent results. HER FOOD IS AMAZING. We got tremendous feedback on how good everything was, and we also enjoyed a very delicious tasting several months ahead of time so we had an idea of what to expect. There are literally 5 pages of options for hors d'oeurves and main courses and the Cheese Plate during cocktail hour!! How can I explain the joy I got from seeing a giant, beautiful selection of my favorite food!

I cannot say enough positive things about this place and will be forever happy to know I had my wedding here. Our family and friends were truly impressed with the place (2nd floor) and all the character it had. Here are some highlights:

- They have an open house every Saturday fro 10-2pm, so it made it very easy for us to view it many times. Though the first time we ever saw it, we had to place a deposit right away. It was exactly what we were looking for in terms of look, feel and price.
- Amanda and Carlos are amazing human beings! Amanda was my main contact through the planning process and she was very accessible and prompt at responding. A day or two before the wedding and the day of, Carlos was your go to guy and he made sure you had everything you needed. They were so flexible and accommodating, it's almost ridiculous as I was used to hearing so many rules from other venues.
- You do not have to use their caterer though they do offer a discount if you do. You can bring in your own vendors and best of all, the liquor so that really helped us save a lot of money. Plus it was great to hear positive reviews/experience from past vendors who worked at The Metropolitan Building.
- Props galore! The fact that they have props for you to select from is fantastic. If you want to have an Anthropologie photo shoot experience, THIS IS THE PLACE! You get to select them 1 week beforehand and Carlos ensures that all of the props are delivered to the 2nd floor the day of.
- Great price and no minimums on a Saturday night! Again, a breath of fresh air as my guest count was only 100 people.

If you want a beautiful backdrop for your wedding with great partners to work with on-site, then this is the place for you. They make planning SO EASY and you will receive so many compliments from family and friends. Everyone loved the fact that it was strange walking into an abandoned looking warehouse, only to walk into a grand, beautiful "palace." Like my own little Versailles!

We had our reception on the 4th floor of the Metropolitan Building in August, 2015 and it was an amazing venue. Everyone commented that the place is absolutely gorgeous and it was one of the best weddings they ever attended. My wedding reception was more beautiful than what I imagined it would be. While they are very laid back and not as formal as other venues (no contract, most communications done by phone, receipts are hand written, etc.), that turned out to be positive as they were more flexible and accommodating. You just need to make sure you ask as many questions as you can think of as nothing is in writing. Also, you need to do your own decoration but we loved that as we could make the place look however we wanted it to look. You also need to provide your own alcohol, ice and other drinks but that really cut our costs down, and it allowed us to have plenty of drinks.

The in-house catering was fantastic. The food was of top quality and delicious. We were particularly impressed with the fruit and cheese display - it was a spread. All the guests loved everything about the food. The wait staff and bartenders were so friendly and attentive as well.

The day after the wedding, we had to go pick up all the decorations and left over drinks, but as soon as we got there, everything was already packed and ready to go. We were expecting to spend some time to take down the lights, etc., but the building crew had already done that for us.

All in all, the venue, staff, food, everything was amazing. We had a fantastic experience at the Metropolitan Building.
