We got married on the fourth floor and could not have been happier with it! We have received so, so, so many compliments on how beautiful the it was, and it made our lives easier because the space is so beautiful on its own that we didn't have too much decorating to do. The staff were so easy to work with, and they made sure everything was in place for the big day. They were also extremely relaxed and laid back about what we did in the space and were flexible in terms of arrival time, and clean up etc. I can't imagine getting married anywhere else, this place is just incredible - a diamond in the rough!

The 2nd floor of the Metropolitan Building is so beautiful and unique, and we had the best time here for our wedding. The staff is great, especially Carlos, and they are very flexible and accommodating when you have special requests. We needed a ramp set up for handicap accessibility, a place to store the cake that we made ourselves the day of, and an area to assemble and store our flower arrangements the day before. There was another wedding the same day as ours on the 4th floor, and amazingly, we didn't even see or hear anyone from the other group. This is the type of place where you can be as creative as you want with your event, great for people who are crazy enough to take on an absurd number of DIY projects. Great venue!

I think their prices have gone up a bit since I booked, but we had the perfect wedding here in May 2014. Carlos and his team were so helpful, letting us load in stuff the night before, setting up all our lights and decorations for us, and letting us keep things there the night of the wedding and picking them up the next morning. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how beautiful the venue was, plus it has a full kitchen so your caterers can actually make the food there instead of prepping everything the day before and reheating it.

One tip though! We had a wedding and sit-down dinner of about 130 people on the 2nd floor, and even though they say they can fit 150, I would not go over 130! Everyone fit comfortably that way, but any more would have had the dinner tables really cutting into the dance floor space, and made everyone really cramped.

The Metropolitan Building was the setting for one of the most beautiful weddings I have attended. It is not your run-of-the-mill venue, allowing you to envision and create your own setting. My son and daughter-in-law's reception was decorated with candles and string lights galore, making for the feel of an outdoor Tuscan wedding. I have no doubt the photos will be stunning. In addition to the arresting setting, the manager of the venue, Carlos, was laid back and ready to let the bride and groom fill their visual dream.

The Metropolitan Building was absolutely perfect. We had our ceremony at a church in Manhattan and then bused guests to the 4th floor of the Met building for the reception. With all of our vendors in there the space looked more beautiful than we ever could have imagined. Our wedding planner was nervous about how relaxed they are (no contracts etc.) but ended up being pleasantly surprised by how seamless everything went under Carlos' guidance day of. This was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding, guests were blown away and so happy to be in such a unique space rather than the typical reception hall.

My wedding ceremony and reception was held at the Metropolitan Building (MB) on August 31, 2013. My husband and I live overseas and had only a few days during an October 2012 visit to NYC to find a venue for our wedding. As soon as we walked into the MB, we knew it was the place for us. It is stunningly beautiful, in a sophisticated, rustic and slightly urban way that only NYC can carry off. But despite this, it is not pretentious at all, which was important to us. We wanted our non-New Yorker guests to be comfortable.

We rented the 2nd floor for our small wedding (around 45 guests). The MB price point was one of the best that we found of all the places we looked at, as you can have the ceremony and reception in the same venue (different parts of the floor) and the MB offers a discount on the space fee if you use their in-house caterers. We did use their in-house caterers, Maia Pearl Catering, and were very happy with the food. (See separate review on catering.) We provided all drinks and ice, minimal flowers and decorations (not much is needed really), and music.

Tip 1: There is no speaker system, so while you can use an iPod for your dancing, you'll need to rent speakers

Tip 2: the MB does not use email and takes a bit of a laid back approach to events planning. But don't let this fool you -- they are professional and the service is fantastic. Carlos and his team were absolutely great during the wedding.

Tip 3: Hire a wedding planner to help ensure good communication and organization with the MB. Kate of Green Apple Weddings has done over 50 weddings at the MB, from those with less than 50 guests on one floor (like mine) to weddings with 250 guests using both floors. She is excellent (see separate review) and is well experienced in navigating the particularities of the MB.

If we did it again, we would not change anything! We loved the MB.

We had our wedding on the second floor of the Metropolitan Building with approximately 110 guests. The space is gorgeous and exactly what we were looking for. It has a romantic, old world elegance, and we loved how the outside of the building kept the magic of the inside a surprise until guests arrived in the space. The folks who work there are laid back but very knowledgeable - Amanda is easily available by phone to answer logistics questions, and Carlos and his team made everything run smoothly during the event. They were able to recommend excellent vendors for drinks, flowers, photography, and more. We also used their in-house caterer, Sasha, who did a great job.

As soon as we walked into this venue my now husband and I knew this is where we wanted to get married. The venue is so unique and characterful. Its also extremely reasonably priced, and so easy going and relaxed. Amanda and Carlos are great to work with, and Carlos made the day so stress free. Every guest at our wedding commented on how amazing the space was. The fact that it has so much character also means that you don't have to decorate or worry about filling the space.

We had our ceremony and reception here on the second floor (you can rent the second, or fourth floor depending on the size of the party) and it was wonderful. We used their recommended caterers, and so they took care of almost everything. We only had to supply alcohol, cake, flowers and the music.

Its rare to find such a great value for all inclusive service, and a great service at that, but that is certainly what we got with The Metropolitan Building

My husband and I are still glowing after our gorgeous wedding on the 4th floor of The Metropolitan Building. The space is absolutely stunning and unique, and it made for a truly magical wedding. One cannot mention The Metropolitan Building without mentioning Carlos, who is the backbone of the place. He is the most hardworking guy in the biz, and always has a smile. If you want a wedding that will knock people's socks off, this is the place.

The Metropolitan Building is a unique venue in which to hold a wedding. We had our ceremony and reception for about 80 people on the second floor. The interior was vintage with distressed wood and the massive windows had fantastic views of the Queensborough Bridge and the Manhattan skyline.

The area around the building is relatively industrial but the building itself has a lovely old redbrick fascade. They have a massive store of tables/chairs/furniture on the 3rd floor that you can choose from and set up the area as you want.

They do not tend to use email but they respond to all queries on the phone immediately. Carlos is the main man on site and he's brilliant to work with. He knows exactly what he's doing and was very accomodating in all requests we had. He did all his work with a smile on his face and we genuinely got on very well with him. The staff working for Carlos were quick and efficient and the food prepared by Chef Sasha was hailed by all. Sasha gave us a big menu to pick from and the hors d'euvres and main course were fantastic.

Overall we loved the venue and everyone working there. Those who attended, mainly from Mexico, Ireland and Wisconsin, said the venue was unique.

5 stars for all concerned in the Metropolitan Building
