Jennifer Wilson (Special Events Coordinator) and Mary Cline (Director of Catering) were friendly from the first moment we met them and provided the perfect blend of confidence, professionalism, excitement, and guidance every step of the way over the past year to turn my daughter's wedding into an extraordinary event. Of course, the venue and views are spectacular, but the food was scrumptious, the lighting was fun, the large video wall was a great addition, and service was impeccable. Most importantly for me, they helped me feel calm on the day of the wedding -- I didn't worry about anything and just had a marvelous time as did everyone else. Thanks, Jennifer and Mary, for all you do.

When planning the wedding, I wanted a venue that really captured DC and let guests know they were in the middle of the city. The Newseum as a venue does exactly that. It has an amazing view of the capitol and the space is fantastic for hosting a large wedding. I would still choose that location given the chance to do it again, but I learned valuable lessons regarding the planning and service.

Working with the staff I found a bit difficult, the Newseum is not a cheap venue, and when asking about different options for catering/set up/etc, the staff would say things were doable, however they would fail to mention the extra costs associated with the changes until the invoice. An example of that was when I was at the tasting with four other people. The food was all delicious, and the associate with us at the newseum told us that oftentimes people substitute the dessert for a midnight snack like mini burgers or fries. We hadn't even thought of this, but decided to make this substitute. A few weeks later when we received our invoice, we saw that the late night snacks were not a "substitute", but an additional $7 per person. This would not have been a problem if she had simply stated that during the tasting, but she made it seem like an even trade. Throughout the process we went back and forth with the pricing, and when we got our final bill, there was a large added amount for an "assistant chef" which had never appeared on the initial invoices.

Our photographer asked to receive guest meals because of food allergies, which was an additional charge, yet when I followed up they never received meals but I was charged for them. When I asked for those meals to be credited ($180), they refused, I had to to go to the Newseum management before it was resolved. When you pay $50,000+ for a venue, you expect better professionalism and service. I found the answers to questions differed depending on who I spoke with. I would recommend the venue, not the vendor.

I knew it was the venue for our reception as soon as I visited and got to see the views from the terrace and out the wall of windows inside the reception space. It had the exact modern and urban feel that we wanted. The DC skyline, especially the capitol, look amazing! Add in that it’s Wolfgang Puck catering and you have the start of a great reception. Our guests were definitely wowed by the view and raved about the food. WPC works with DC Rentals for your linens and their selection was great. Mary Cline (WPC) was very accommodating when we decided to change our menu, even to add something that wasn’t even on their standard offerings. I could see how it might be difficult to deal directly with WPC, but our planner handled this vendor for us. Ultimately everything worked out great. The tasting was impressive in itself. They set it up to be close to what your guests would experience. And Jennifer Wilson (Newseum) was always super responsive on any questions I had. Bottom line - it is expensive, but worth it!

The Newseum was a tremendous venue for our wedding reception. I first looked at the Newseum because I have worked my career in news and my now husband's father was one of 10 people who started NPR, but the venue proved to be perfect for more than its meaning to our lives. From the beginning, the staff most vividly Acacia Henry and Jennifer Wilson were professional, attentive and did everything thing they could to make my wedding day as special as it could be. They met me at my convenience, answered my questions in a quick manner and advised me of timelines that needed to be met. They were a pleasure to work with and did all the work when it came to making sure my outside vendors knew how to get to venue and what they needed to be in place on the wedding day. Yes, the Newseum is expensive but if you compare it to other venues in the DC area it is competitive and you will not find better food, service or overall view. I was lucky to have a beautiful night and the terrace provided my guests with an unbelievable view of DC. My mother said, I put my night in the hands of professionals and it paid off.

This was an amazing venue for our Sunday afternoon wedding. It was windy on the 8th floor terrace but the sun was shining and beautiful. The food was fantastic. Jennifer, Mary, and Jesica were really great throughout the whole planning process; they bent over backwards to make my vision for the ceremony and reception come to life, and they added their own creative ideas as we planned together. The Wolfgang Puck folks are quite busy so you might need to wait a few days before getting responses to your emails--just take your time as you plan, and be very organized.
Yes, as other reviewers say, this place is expensive. Make sure you take into account in-house labor costs as you figure out your total budget costs (something I overlooked when I first considered the space--both for food service and for A/V technical support). Since we had our wedding on a Sunday afternoon, the rental fees were less of course than for certain evening times. We went back and forth a few times with the staff trying to figure out how they could make our event work given our limited budget, and the staff was always super-friendly and supportive about this.
My sense is that a lot of people who use this space have wedding planners and venue stylists, but I wanted to do it all myself and it was no problem (though I would suggest getting a day-of-coordinator, at least). I've seen photos of the terrace beautifully styled for a ceremony, but we went completely minimalist and just had the in-house chairs and our hand-held wedding canopy (Jewish chuppah) for the ceremony; with the surrounding scenery it was really lovely. Our luncheon reception was then held indoors adjacent to the terrace.
Our wedding was small (about 70 people), and the space can easily accommodate many more people. We never felt "swallowed up" by the space, though. It was chic and the pictures are stunning.
If you are looking for a unique space, this is it.

We looked at a lot of venues within (and outside of) the DMV but nothing came close to Newseum. The team at the Newseum is top notch. They are very responsive and work with you to ensure your needs are met. Jennifer M. was wonderful in sharing ideas and responding to our inquiries. Mary C. is a foodie and excellent event planner, she worked closely with us on the menu as well as the event layout and timing. The event team is willing to work with you to refine your menu to fit your needs. The wait staff was superb and very attentive to our guests. They treated us (the bride and groom) like royalty and catered to our every need. I highly recommend the team at the Newseum.

Our September 4th wedding at the Newseum surpassed any and all expectation myself, my fiance, and our families had. I was told guests were literally gasping walking out on the 7th floor balcony to take their seats for the ceremony. It's not only a gorgeous setting, with the captial as the backdrop, but the building lends a clean, modern, and urban feel, making the Newseum a truly unique venue. As others mentioned, its not the cheapest venue, but it's 100% worth it. The staff is amazing. Stephanie, our point of contact, was a true professional. She handled all the details in the month leading up to the wedding (contacted and organized all the other vendors etc), making it virtually stress free for me. She was prompt with responses and worked to get all the unique touches that made the wedding truly "us" included. The food was also AMAZING and received high accolades from our guests, many saying its the best food they've ever had at a wedding. It was the most amazing night my now husband and I will never forget. We give all the credit to Stephanie and the whole Newseum/Wolfgang puck staff.

We loved our May 2011 wedding at the Newseum and recommend it to anyone looking for a modern DC venue with amazing views, indoor/outdoor space, and a cool vibe. Mary, our point person at Wolfgang Puck, was amazing and very responsive. She helped us figure out what we needed, what we could skip, and how we could add personal, fun touches to our day. Everyone we dealt with, from our initial walkthrough, to our tasting, to the rehearsal and the wedding day itself, went above and beyond to make us feel special and treated us with the utmost respect and professionalism. You have to use the on-site catering, but we got so many compliments on the Wolfgang Puck food. It is not the cheapest venue in DC, but everything that was included was top notch. The views of the Capitol Building, the monuments and downtown DC are striking and make for a fabulous backdrop. We recommend the Newseum to anyone looking for a unique wedding location that will definitely wow your guests! Wouldn't have changed a thing!

We wanted to wow our guests, so we splurged a little bit (this place ain't cheap) and did just that. This venue is stunning. The staff was a pleasure to work with...very professional with a very well-run catering operation. They were flexible with us on several aspects including the bar selections and some special food requests. I have to ding them a little bit for the cake...they charge you a plating fee to bring in your own cake so we went with theirs and it was not good. I don't know what happened between the tasting and the wedding, but the icing was hard (even though it was buttercream, not fondant) and when we looked at it on the table, it was oozing. We were really disappointed with the cake and wish we would have just spent the money to bring one in from elsewhere. Other than that, the food was amazing, the staff was amazing, and our overall experience was excellent.
