NickyB Entertainment is more than a DJ company. We provide an array of services that can take any event to another level. Besides providing DJ and an MC, we offer decorative ambiance uplighting, dance floor and club lighting, MTV style music videos onto large projection or plasma screens, custom slideshow production and presentation. We can add a 'live' camera to display real-time action onto the big screens and also provide "digital photo montages on the fly". We have a followspot light to highlight your every move and can put your names or costom monogram in light with our custom gobo projectors and display them into our laser generated starfield on the ceiling! We can have you "dancing in the clouds" with our special CO2 'cold fog' generator. We can deliver on our promise to take your event to a whole new level. Read less

INFO FOR DJ

What music genres are in your collection?
50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Orchestra, Pop, R&B, Rock, Soul, Strings, Swing, World
Do you have liability insurance?
Yes
Describe your DJ style:
Normally mild and tastefully interactive, but we will alter our style to suit our client's wishes.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
No
What is your usual attire?
Normally a tuxedo but we allow our clients to specify that in our contract agreement within reason.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Only if they already have it; generally we'll get it if it
 is still available.
How many other DJs do you work with?
I normally work alone but use an assistant for more difficult setups with large light shows and special effects.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
3 hours
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely - we highly recommend it because if our personalities clash, we'll recommend someone else.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Yes, ehtnic origin doesn't matter; we're familiar with nearly all ethnic traditions.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes, Absolutely as we aim to please not offend.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes we're fully equipped and with equivalent backup gear to handle up to 1200 people. I might also add that our sound system is a cut above what most DJ's consider state-of-the-art.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
As the "Gear Guru" for ProDJ.com, we've got it all - Besides music, we can provide music videos and/or slideshows on large projection screens and/or plasma TVs, uplighting, colorful dance floor effects lighting, large 'club style' lighting, live video camera and an entire array of special effects like cold fog, haze, bubbles, mirrored balls etc. Our latest addition is a night-sky laser starfield and cold 'dry ice' fogger.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
For DJ/MC services only about 30 minutes. If video and/or lighting are required, then it could be as much as 2 hours depending on what services are required.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
Normally a standard 6 ft. banquet table is all we need. Additional space would be required for video projection, plasma monitors and large club lighting setups. Our largest
setup may also require additional electrical power known as
 a "power drop".
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
We do not use a sign or banner as we feel it's "tacky", especially at your wedding reception.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
Act as Master of Ceremonies YES, talk between songs is kept
to an absolute minimum. We believe in speaking only when requested or necessary.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
There are certain songs that with minimal encouragement can usually get any crowd motivated.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
This is left up to the client and its never expected. We realize that your budget only goes so far and we're not going to ask you for more.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
N/A since we don't take any but, yes if required.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Yes, my assistant and the entire membership of the Baltimore
 Area DJ Association, Inc.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?

I had originally booked DM dee jays for our wedding. The Thursday before our wedding (Saturday) they called us saying our dj had an emergency and couldn't do our wedding but DJ Nick Burkes was going to do it. What a DISASTER!!!!! Walking out of the ceremony, he did not play the song I requested. Then the song started skipping and he stopped it and turned out a rap song for my bridal party and guests to walk out to!

Then, the workers told him to stall because we were not ready to be announced in yet. He didn't stall and I was announced in(to the wrong song) and had to dance to my first song with my dress not bustled. This was a little hard since my husband kept stepping on it. I requested my bridal party NOT join us on the dance floor, well what do ya know, he announces half way through the song for the bridal party to join us.

He played all older songs and when I asked him to play newer dance songs he said "well if you would have provided me with a list of songs I would have known what to play. I only knew about your wedding 2 days ago." Talk about rude!!

A couple of my husbands friends were on the dance floor goofing off to "save a horse ride a cowboy" and as my sister was up there requesting a song he said "this is getting out of hand, I need to play a slow song" Well who is he to judge if it was getting out of hand??

I had a slideshow that we payed $200 extra for to play continuously. Everytime I went to the bar area where it was being shown it was not playing! I had to press play myself.

On our last dance, I wanted everyone to dance to it. He made the guests get in a circle around us and hold hands...awkward!

When I wrote to the DJ he said it was total BS and that I was exaggerating. Well thats really professional. DO NOT HIRE NICK BURKES for a dj!!

Nicky-B Entertainment responded with the following comments:

Setting the stage: First off this contract was NOT mine but I offered to help a DJ friend out of a bind. The event was booked through DM DeeJays.

The bride's recessional song WAS NOT listed and left blank in the paperwork I was provided. Since she used "Pachebel's Canon in D" for her intro (a standard), I used "Mendelsohn's Wedding Recessional" for her exit ... obviously not her choice!

It was the staff at the venue who instructed me to start the introductions as everything was already running late. I think the hour and 10 minutes for photos after the ceremony attributed to this problem.

As for the music, my play logs state differently as for old vs. new but there were no playlists provided except for the traditional dances. Bridal party and guests' requests were played.

Yes they payed a rental fee for a projector but a player was not mentioned for the slide show that THEY created. The only player available was my backup laptop which has minimal DJ software and the slide show provided on a DVD would not LOOP in Windows Media Player and therefore had to be manually restarted each time.

The venue also informed me at 10:10pm that it was their policy to stop the music 15 minutes earlier than the contracted end time. I still had their
last dance and exit songs to play and only 5 minutes to play both.

All in all, I feel better communications and more complete information provide to me at the last minute by the contracting DJ company would've resolved all the issue that arose. I feel the bride should've directed her feelings toward the appropiate company (DM DeeJays) and not at me. And FYI, I only kept one-half the amount that was stated on the unsigned copy of the contract I was provided. I'm still not sure what happened to the remainder.

My husband and I were thrilled at the outstanding job Nick did at our wedding. I was very specific about everything that we wanted for our wedding day and he followed my instructions to a T. We feel so fortunate that we found him and I would highly recommend him to anyone that is looking for a DJ. Thank you Nick!
