The DJ was never very high on our priority list in terms of wedding vendors. We decided to splurge in other areas and skimp more with the music. So I suppose we got what we paid for.
I found DDSC's website difficult to navigate-- very labyrinthine-- though once you figure it out, they have quite the online request queue! It really simplifies the process of picking your music, just log in and pick a couple songs whenever, five minutes here and there. Pretty soon, your whole wedding day has a soundtrack!
Having said that, I would've liked maybe a bit more guidance. After the wedding, I realized I picked WAY more music than was necessary which equals a lot of my time wasted planning and a lot of my favorites never got played.
We had much less dancing than I anticipated, but the DJ never encouraged people to get up, though they had claimed to be very good about that exact situation. There was very little emceeing altogether. We had a timeline for the DJ, but it was difficult to communicate with them, so for example, our first entrance as man and wife was never announced.
Our wedding took place at an estate, and though DDSC had played the venue before-- and so should've understood the location's audio needs-- the sound was pretty terrible. Way too soft. People sitting in the back room couldn't hear anything at all and so felt left out. The sound was too soft even in the main room! (And I am always the first to complain about music being too loud!)
Maybe I am being a bit harsh. They were very nice, after all and dressed appropriately.

Imagine my shock (over 1 year later) & hurt to find our dj service listed here & with this type of review. Being a small DJ service, we remember EACH & EVERY wedding reception. I would like to apologize to the bride for her dis-satisfaction with the service that she received. We have always prided ourselves on excellent customer service & sound at our events. We WANT our brides & grooms to selet more music than is necessary. We discuss that & suggest that when selecting music they also consider their family & guests. We also tell our clients that there is a "must play" option for each song they select. ALL of those MUST PLAYS are played before anything else. We also ask the bride & groom if they would like us to take requests (she did say yes) & that it will impact the number of songs played from their request list. The bride that submit this review had specific music that she wanted played for their ceremony, cocktail & dinner time. She burned that music to a cd, which is great! We had completely run through that cd & were playing similar tunes by the same artists when the groom came up & stated that his wife wanted us to play that cd again. So be it - customer is always right.

Yes, we have worked at that facility many times. This is a mansion. The djs are placed on a balcony overlooking the area that is the ceremony/dinner/dance space. The back room she is speaking of is on the level below & behind the dj, behind a staircase & near a kitchen. Turning the sound up to a level so that the back room can hear it would result in earsplitting sound in the main area. The only other safe solution would be to place a small pair of WIRELESS speakers within that area & at a significantly extra cost. The sound/volume the rest of the night, in our opinion, was appropriate & quite frankly, no one asked us to turn it up.

As for the MCing, our djs do ALL of the announcements. As I had previously mentioned, the djs are up on a balcony at this facility & cannot see what is going on underneath, where the bride & groom would be entering into the dining area. We typically have a dj instruct the bride & groom to wait for our "cue" before walking in. Unfortunately, I was not able to approach them (Lesson learned to discuss in advance!) & they walked in. We were just as shocked.

As for "keeping people dancing" we have & do. We rely on the music that is played & how much freedom we have with what is being played. Again, it is your wedding - you will know your family & friends better than we will. We do NOT believe in using the microphone to badger guests into dancing or getting up on the dance floor. From our experience we know specific tunes that have encouraged people to dance, but every crowd is different. A good dj will play different genres to see what will work. If we have been instructed not to play the ones that just might work, the djs will not & work with what they have & we did. And the biggest thing we tell our clients - watch the door, not the floor.

The bride & groom were nice people, as were all their family & guests & we REALLY enjoyed their music! We have incorporated some of their cocktail/dinner selections into our suggestions to other brides & grooms. At the end of the night, the groom thanked us & shook our hands.

An unhappy customer is bad for business. I wish I had know sooner.
