We held a Rehearsal Dinner party on October 2, 2015 at the NC Aquarium, and cannot say enough about what a terrific venue it was for the event, and how great their event coordinator, Cheryl Gross, and her Aquarium colleagues were to work with ! We came for a visit a year earlier, then again about a month before the event, and both times Cheryl was so helpful showing us around and helping us visualize and plan the event down to the smallest detail. The whole facility is amazing, both inside and outside, where they have a beautiful pier and pavillion overlooking the sound. As it turned out, we had torrential rains ahead of Hurricane Joaquin on the night of the party, so it was held entirely indoors, but we were snug and dry. We had cocktails in the Wetlands / Freshwater area, and our guests loved their special visit to the Sea Turtle Assistance and Rehabilitation (STAR) center. Then we moved to the Shark Tank room for a truly unique and magical dinner experience. Cheryl helped us to pipe our own iPod playlists through the building sound systems on either side, to set the mood. They have a great working relationship with local caterers (in our case, the terrific Basnight's Lone Cedar Cafe), and the experience was absolutely seamless and indelibly memorable. Our guests LOVED this venue for our party, and we LOVED working with Cheryl and her colleagues ! They may be closed soon for some exciting renovations, but if their schedule works for your event, don't hesitate to hold it at the NC Aquarium -- we recommend them without hesitation !

My husband and I got married at the Roanoke Island Aquarium on July 11, 2015. We booked this venue over a year and a half in advance after finding it on the Outer Banks Wedding Association Website. We both have always loved the ocean and the beach so we knew that this would be the perfect place to get married. Cheryl the event coordinator at the aquarium was great to work with. Because of her and our event coordinator, Beth, our wedding at the aquarium was absolutely spectacular! The ceremony was supposed to be take place on the pier located next to the aquarium; however, unfortunately it rained that day so we had to move inside to the theater for the ceremony. The theater is a very nice room; however, it lacks any special charm so our ceremony wasn't as picturesque as it would have been on the pier. Our reception took place in the shark tank room; which was such a beautiful backdrop for photos and dancing! Our guests were able to explore the entire aquarium throughout the evening. All of our guests no matter what their age absolutely had a blast, many said that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. Note to brides, the one bad thing is that there are several rooms that your guests can enjoy, which makes it very difficult to track down all 140 of your guests and thank them for being there. This isn't a deal breaker by any means, I just wish a former bride had warned me so I would have spent more time thanking my guests and maybe worn more comfortable shoes! Thank you to Cheryl and all of the aquarium staff who helped out with our wedding.

We loved getting married at the Aquarium!! Our guests are still raving about how much fun they had! The pier is absolutely gorgeous, and our guests loved being able to just walk right into the Aquarium for cocktail hour! It is such a cool and unique venue and has an indoor option to take the stress away from weather worries. We had our reception in the shark tank room, and we danced in the room right beside it. It worked perfectly, and all the kids and guests who aren't big dancers loved being able to tour the Aquarium during the reception.

I had my reception at the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. It is a beautiful place to have a reception. You need very little decorations because of all the tanks. Our wedding was extremely large and all of our vendors were a little nervous about it. Cheryl did an excellent job of finding everyone a place to sit and she made sure we had all of our I's dotted and T's crossed. At one point I was so overwhelmed and over heated that I saw stars and almost blacked out. Cheryl was right there with a cold icepack putting it on my back.

The NC Aquarium is a wonderful place to have your wedding. We found the venue very easy to work with; beyond that, they helped with an aspect of our catering that we forgot (we forgot to order napkins). I would easily recommend having your wedding here!

With Beth Pallett as our event coordinator, we have nothing but wonderful things to say about the aquarium. From other vendors, we learned that most people only rent the theater room and the lobby. RENT THE WHOLE THING!!! Our guests commented a lot in the time after the wedding how much fun they had combining an aquarium with a wedding and petting sting rays while waiting for the buffet. We put our dance floor in the shipwreck room and used the Graveyard of the Atlantic for our dinner tables (75 guests) and it was perfect. The aquarium had everything we needed including an awesome fish shaped easle for our table assignment poster. The decorating was perfect and the staff was wonderful! They obviously communicate very well with each other too, which is a nice thing to see in any business these days! I went back the next day and nearly cried when I saw the aquarium NOT decorated for my wedding!

The aquarium was such a great venue! We are low key, fun people so the aquarium fit perfectly in the tone we wanted to set for the wedding. We signed up under the assistant, and she no longer works there, but Cheryl was awesome to work with. This venue is pretty all inclusive in the sense Cheryl kept me on game with planning. It was almost like having a wedding coordinator! As long as you do the ceremony inside (we did it in the lobby in front of their newly built tank) they have chairs and tables that you can use. Cheryl shared many ideas with us like setting up cocktail hour and the theater for like a club with different size/height tables. The aquarium sets up the areas for you and you get to use the conference room to get ready. If there isn’t a wedding the night before, they even let you bring stuff to store there when you come the day before for rehearsal. They also have an attendant on hand so your guests have access to the touch tank. They also offer a military discount so be sure to ask about it if it applies. Awesome area outside for pictures or to have the ceremony. It was cost effective, because we did not have to pay for a ceremony and reception venue separate! The shark tank was an awesome background for the head table at dinner. They also have a wireless mic in there for toasts and a projection screen that we were able to display a powerpoint of our pictures. Perfect wedding venue! Made my low budget wedding look like we spent so much more on it.
