We loved the location of the OC Sail and Events Center, located just off of Dana Point Harbor next to baby beach. It allowed the beach wedding that we both wanted but provided a bit of privacy as it is fenced off and not open to the public during booked events. The price was very reasonable and the rental included the outdoor courtyard (which held our ceremony), indoor area (for dinning), a small kitchen, private bathrooms (public bathrooms located outside of the enclosure), 200 chairs, and around 18 tables. Having the tables and chairs provided by the venue really brought an additional value. We chose to spend a little bit more and rent a "ready room" which was divided by a partition for the wedding party to get last minute touch-ups. When we were originally trying to find out availability on the site the regular booking person was out on medical leave and it took about 12 calls and a few weeks to finally reach the person assigned as the substitute. This site is run by the OC Parks Department and has other park priorities in the area so patience was definitely needed. (The person in charge of booking is back now so this issue may be completely resolved). The workers were nice and friendly, allowing us to take our vendors on walk-throughs. I was very disappointed by the "security" personnel that we were forced to pay for due to the serving of alcohol. She was very quiet, spent most of the time on her phone and even walked up on the stage during the dinning portion in order to plug her phone in to recharge. Towards the end she allowed a random stranger (in obvious beach attire) and her son to wander into my wedding because the woman was thinking of renting the location and wanted to look at it. I found that incredibly offensive. If I wanted to have beach goers wandering through my wedding I would have saved the rental fee and just had it on the beach itself. While this one worker was apathetic and unable to perform their job, the majority of the staff were great.

AMAZING venue!!!! Unbelievable price!!! This venue is beautiful. It sets at the start of the pier in the Dana Point Harbor and has sand and water on one side and water with boat docks on the other. The outside courtyard is a beautiful setting for the ceremony and really does not need any decorations to make it beautiful. The adjoining banquet room is gorgeous!! Six huge double doors open up into this room from the courtyard. Grapevines follow the courtyard around the columns and make this venue so great with a view of the harbor. The venue comes with the use of 200 chairs and round tables that fit up to 10 guests. You are responsible for clean up and set up but they supply a guard that keeps the place under control. Our caterer had been to this venue several times and included the set up and tear down in their price. The venue was a gift from my family but the entire venue both inside and out with the tables and chairs and guard were approximately $2000 (depending on how many hours you have it, I had it from 1pm -11pm) I highly recommend using them. This is a state owned facility so you do have to make sure you have your vendors' insurance certificates and endorsements into them as soon as you can but other than that, they were a dream to work with and all of my guests LOVED the venue!! And for a little extra money you can also rent this upstairs room that is PERFECT for the bride and girls to get ready in!!!

The OC Sailing and Events Center is run by the County of Orange so there are applications, permits, and fees that need to be done. It can be very confusing and intimidating. The Event Center is a great "blank slate" that you can transform into the reception of your dreams. It is a little run down but dresses up nicely. The chairs are not nice enough to use for a formal occasion. You rent the room by the hour and it costs more if you will be serving alcohol. You have to pay the extra fee for the entire rental time (set-up time) even though alcohol isn't served yet. And you have to pay to have a sheriff on duty if serving alcohol. It all adds up, but is still a reasonable option. The staff at the venue are very helpful.

I wanted a venue that was a totally blank slate and one that allowed me to bring everything in on my own. This venue allowed me to do that at an extremely reasonable price. I was able to select all of my own vendors and use some friends as vendors and decorate myself reflecting my own style. The downside is some of the restrictions (must be cleaned up and out by 11pm). Also, it was supposed to air-conditioned in the reception hall, but it was very hot! Still, everything went perfectly and I wouldn't change the location if I had it to do over.

We chose this location because we thought the cost was low and there was more flexibility. They gave us a list of suggested vendors. Turns out we had to jump through hoops to use the vendors that we wanted that were not on the list. We ended up paying a lot of unexpected fees to use the vendors we wanted. What we thought was a great flexible place, turned out to be much more stress and $ than we thought. Other than that, it is a beautiful little place. Jason (maintenance supervisor) helped us a ton on the big day and with advice beforehand. He gave superb service. They were helpful in some areas but extremely non-flexible in others (licensing, etc.). I would still recommend them but only if the person knows all the complications that could arise.

I loved this venue. It was the best deal for the cost and it is just a clean slate. You must submit your vendors and pay a extra fees, but I saved over $2k by having my wedding and reception here versus other venues we looked at (like the Historic Cottage or Ole Hansen). So the extra $70 didn't seem like a big inconvenience to me for a fee. Any state park you have your wedding at will have various rules to follow, including having to shut down by 10 PM. Also, they allow you to bring in your own alcohol as long as you have a certified bartender (we paid $250 for a bartender and it was no problem at all)

My advice to having a great wedding here is to hire a wedding coordinator who has worked at the venue before. I had Priscilla from At Your Service Caters and she made working with this venue a breeze.

This is a beautiful venue but please remember it is a community center first and they just rent it out on the weekends for weddings. If you are looking for a full service venue with a lot of service, you should not book this place. But if you want a great, inexpensive venue by the water, you should check this place out.

Being that i had shopped and shopped around for the right venue for our budget i thought $198.00/ hour was a great deal for the space...WRONG! I could have gone to the yaht club across the harbor for cheaper, classier and extremly more flexible guidelines. It was a good location sinse it had an outside area for the bar however the rules & regulations, as well as "help" was rediculous

This a great water front location at a great price. There are some guidelines but none that are outstanding. I picked it because I wanted waterfront and I wanted to do my own catering. Loved the place and the people and especially the cost!

I highly recommend this venue for its value! Because it's a part of the parks and rec system it is really really cheap. Plus, the facility can handle both ceremony and reception. What I loved most is that it is in Dana Point Harbor, so your ceremony can overlook sailboats and the beach. You really won't find a venue like this for any cheaper elsewhere. Downsides: Because it belongs to the parks system, if you want alcohol they jack up the rental price and require their own security guards (not something you want, trust me); you have to get property permits from the county and all of your vendors must have insurance filed with the county (most vendors will purchase the single day insurance, but they will give you a list of their preferred vendors as well). The facility can accommodate up to 150 people, though it would be pretty tight and hard to fit a dance floor in. All in all, I highly recommend it for anyone on a budget.
