We went to a bridal show and came across Papa's Cakes. We went for a taste testing. Yum yum. We wanted to go with cupcakes, and a cake on the top for us to cut. She did this for us, and gave us 10% off for seeing her at the Bridal Show. I would recommend Papa's Cakes. The lady is very nice, and there is free delivery to your venue. Read less

Upon celebrating my 5 year wedding anniversary and recaping on all the mishaps that had occured, I found myself angry and dissapointed to find that this business was still operating. While planning my wedding, my father and I went for a cake testing with Papa's Cakes (this meant a lot as I am very close to my dad and was excited to share this part of the wedding planning with him). After tasting several samples and showing the picture (I had tore out a page from a Martha Stewart magazine to show exactly how I wanted it to look, 4 tier square cake) we decided to go ahead. The owner kindly drew a pictures to show/explain that obviously the cake would not have 90 degree angles on it and that it would be slightly rounded. We understood. The week leading up to my wedding (I had not spoke to the woman for several weeks after firming the deal and paying) I contacted her on the Wednesday to see how things were going and to see if she was ready for the our silk flowers to be dropped off so she could decorate, she said yes drop them off. We dropped off the silk flowers and my magazine picture (to make things easier for her). The following night (so Thursday before my wedding) I get a phone call at approximately 9pm. It's the owner. She says she didnt have the courage yesterday when I was there to tell me she had made the wrong cake after looking at the magazine picture!!! I was a mess I didnt understand how this happened. She stated she had made a 3 tier round cake instead of the 4 tier square cake. ( I should point out at this time that we also purchased a "back up" slab of carrott cake making the total cost of cake for my wedding over $600). I said "you need to fix this" she said "I can't there's not enough time and I have plans tomorrow (Friday) so I can't remake you anything!!! If you want to take this cake I will drop it off at the event hall for you". I WAS A MESS. I CRIED ALL NIGHT WE CALLED EVERY CAKE PLACE IN BARRIE. Everyone agreed it wasn't enough time to bake a cake and allow it to set (it would collapse) and that I should take the cake that was made. So my husband called her back and said we have no choice but to take the wrong cake. Now I will point out the cake looked very nice, however it WAS NOT THE CAKE I ORDERED. My father was also VERY heartbroken over the dissapointment I was dealing with. We were so angry that we axed the cake cutting ceremony and only took one picture of us cutting it and served it at the back without announcment. I called the week after my wedding to discuss a refund. I thought I was being VERY fair when I asked for only half of what I paid returned (as she did drop off a nice cake, just the wrong one and we did eat it....some of us) I said $300 sounded fair and she agreed. Well, a few weeks went by with no news so I called again, she asked me to drop off my invoice and picture so she could review and see what went wrong and I agreed (not thinking this would be an issue) a few weeks go by and no news still. She finally answers my calls (after screening no doubt for weeks) and agrees that her son (who was around 12ish?) and husband would drop the check off at my place of business (I own a bridal store oddly enough). I said wonderful. Her young son walks into my business and hands me an envelope (I'm thinking this is all done right I can move on) HAHA what a joke!!!! In the envelope is a note saying that she WOULD NOT be returning any money as my father and I clearly ordered a round cake based on the sketch (remember she sketched out the rounded corners to explain that there wouldn't be 90 degree edges not that it was round) and that my father and I were lying!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!???? I was amazed!! AND she had kept my invoice and my picture!!!! She refused to give them back (making small claims impossible) and never returned a phone call again. THIS COMANY WRECKED MY WEDDING CAKE AND REFUSED TO OWN UP TO IT!!! I seriously thought I was being fair asking for only half back after her rude and unprofessional handling of the situation from day 1 but NO, instead she accuses my father and I of lying and not knowing what we ordered? WOW. I've put off posting any type of review over the years as I simply dealt with the anger and dissapointment, however after hearing from brides about their dissapointments from wedding planning, I feel I need to post what happened to me to avoid this issue from reoccuring. THIS WOMAN IS HORRIBLE, SHE DOES NOT OWN UP TO HER MISTAKES, DO NOT USE HER FOR YOUR WEDDING CAKE THERE ARE MANY OTHER RESPECTABLE BUSINESSES IN BARRIE THAT WILL DO A BETTER JOB. SHAME ON YOU FOR NOT OWNING UP TO YOUR ERROR. It makes me sick that this business is still operating. Read less
