While the few folks they had on the ground did an ok job on execution (although were very late setting up tables/linens causing us to have to do their job in addition to the decorating), the people we dealt with getting there were very difficult to work with.

Planning Process:
Multiple emails went unanswered, Items discussed in person were then not honoured as they "weren't in the notes" (However they were in mine). I had to chase them to send payment - which I found weird a payment schedule wasn't more defined. Getting answers about important details, such as tent lighting, was like pulling teeth. I often got the sense that they were so nonchalant because they work on events all the time, however they did not instil confidence in their ability to execute.

The biggest thing that got me was that we had planned a special drink but 2 days before the wedding we cancelled the whole thing. This drink was my favourite part of my wedding and I had to cancel it. Because it was out of their ordinary the plan for 5 months was that we'd pay for the alcohol required to serve the 100 guests we had. On the Wednesday before my Saturday wedding I got the final bill and there was an additional $750 that was NEVER discussed. We were now being charged 7.50 per drink because we changed the type of bar (from host to consumption). They claimed it was due to liquor licence limitations...which I can appreciate. However if this was the case they should have been proactive and flagged to me that I would require a separate licence for our drink. I would have gotten this and been able to execute the one thing I was looking forward to most. To be honest, i got the feeling that they were really just concerned about how much time/effort it would take to serve this special drink after dinner. I was NOT impressed that this event company didn't think to mention I'd need a licence in order to have the evening play out the way that we had jointly planned for 5 months.

We were lined up to sign another caterer when we attended an open house for Pelican's prospective bridal clients. The food was amazing and Carol managed to juggle questions from the crowd of brides that had formed around her. When we met with Carol again, we were left feeling like there wasn't anything that Pelican wouldn't do to make our wishes come true, and they weren't all about the extra costs that could have tried to tack on. They set up early on the day of - and after reviewing the venue, they returned with a privacy cloth to hang in the bar area so that our guests weren't looking at or listening to the food prep - THANK YOU for that! Additionally, they provide a hostess who ensures that special food requests are met and that the head table is taken care of...nice touch!! The prices are very reasonable and we got a lot of compliments on our food.

John, Kristine and Chef Kumar were great to work with. They helped us determine the 'feel' for the reception along with asked the right questions to organize the day for us. Chris and her team set-up the room to our specifications...We were very pleased. The reception service was fantastic and our guests raved about the food. At the end of it all, we had a beautiful room, good service, our guests were well fed and we didn't have to worry about a thing thanks to Pelican!
