Pure Power Entertainment is a boutique DJ entertainment service that provides quality music at functions and special events. My mission is to help make your function a memorable one by entertaining your guests through my music. I have been a DJ for over 25 years and have played at all types of functions. In addition, I am married (for 20 years now) and know how special a wedding day is to a bride and groom. Therefore, I bring a certain attention and unique perspective to working your event. Based on my experience, I also add a very special touch and understanding that some DJ's and large companies may not be able to provide. Read less

What music genres are in your collection?
60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Dance, Gospel, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, R&B, Soul
Do you have liability insurance?
Describe your DJ style:
I've been in the music business over 25 years and understand how people react to music. I play guitar and bass and have performed in front of audiences in many different venues. My style is very entertaining, upbeat and cheerful. I play music to motivate the crowd when needed, but know how and when to set the proper mood in the room.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
I will try to take requests but if I get bogged down with requests from guests every five minutes, the flow of the party will be disrupted. That is why I request from my clients a list of preferred songs so that they can be intergrated into the sets with minimal impact to the party flow.
What is your usual attire?
Formal events: Tuxedo (a designer one that I own), dark blue or black suit. Less formal events I will a polo shirt with my company logo.
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Usually no. But if they have it, I will request it. I will make an attempt to get it from my digital record pool or purchase it so that I have it for future engagements.
How many other DJs do you work with?
I work with another DJ. There are two DJ's in my network that I constantly work with.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
My minimum amount of time is two (3) hours. It also depends on the size and type of event.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
I meet with all of my clients before I sign a contract. I make sure that I am the right DJ for them and their affair. After the contract is signed, we meet to go over logistics of the affair, visit the venue together (if necessary) and make contact to verify everthing is okay one week before the event.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Most, if not all, of my clients are mature African-Americans. Many of my clients are over the age of 35 and love the kind of music I play for their crowd. This makes me more appealing to my clientele.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes. I do not play records with curse words or gross profanity. In fact, I welcome clients who do not want certain records played.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. I carefully load, set up and break down my own equipment and light show. My equipment travels with me.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I have an intelligent lighting system that is sound activated. I have a Tri-Phase system and several color spot lights and strobe. I also have two led mood lights.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
Yes. I require the venue to provide a 6 foot table. It's in my contract. I bring my facade to place in front of the table with my company sign on the facade. I require at least one hour prior to the event to set up properly, I often arrive earlier just to be safe.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
Yes. My sign says Pure Power Entertainment with my phone number. It is professionally done.
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
I do emcee events. I have a great speaking voice so I am asked to emcee lots of events. I do not however talk in between songs. If I am playing a set, it is distracting and unprofessional. Guests also get annoyed when you are talking too much.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
First of all, if no one is dancing then you are playing the wrong song! People expect to dance at these events. They are just waiting for the right song and someone to break the ice. For example, if I was playing for a wedding and there were lots of women there, I would play all of the "lady songs." Example: Single Ladies by Beyonce, something by Rihanna or Alicia Keys. This will get them up and its my job to keep them up. Other functions I have come from behind my facade and gone out into the crowd to dance with the ladies to further motivate them.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I do not eat at functions. Therefore, there is no expense to the client. I have nightclub experience and have played for 6 hours straight without a break. I can play for 4 hours without breaking a sweat or take a break.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
No. If I have to take a bathroom break, it is under four minutes. I would cue up a song that was four minutes, plus the song after that and run to the bathroom. I would be back from the bathroom by then.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I check and see if my partner is available on that day, just in case. I've never missed an event.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
No. One day - one booking.
What is your overtime rate?
$100 per hour payable in cash at the beginning of the overtime session.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
I do not charge for travel expenses.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
It depends. But I usually ask for a $200 deposit at the time of signing the contract. The rest payable at the affair. Sometimes depending on the person and the size of the gig, I allow them to have a payment plan to help them manage their cash flow.
