Established in 1985, and locally owned in Newport, RI. We offer a wide variety of music from oldies and classic jazz, to the newly released radio and dance hits. We focus on our programming and mixing skills while staying clear of the stereotypical wedding songs. That said, no games, line dances, or props.

Job Palaya, who has been with Rhythm Pro since 1997, has been instrumental in our growth and success. He continues to remain on the “preferred vendor list” for the majority of wedding venues in and around Newport. Read less

What music genres are in your collection?
50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, Acoustic, Big Band, Classic Rock, Classical, Country, Dance, Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Motown, Oldies, Pop, Punk Rock, R&B, Rock, Soul, Strings, Swing
Do you have liability insurance?
Describe your DJ style:
We focus heavily on the details and overall sounds while providing a continuous mix of music. We can emcee if necessary with no mic chatter. We tend to be more laid back and in the background but know how to energize and move a floor.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
Yes and No. Technically no, you may request away. In reality we prefer requests to be tamed and not take over the event. We read the crowd and generally know how to keep the floor moving. However, we like to know your tastes and know the 'must plays' and 'do not plays'.
We do not offer any kind of line dance music, as is the Chicken Dance, Electric Slide, Cha Cha and alike.
What is your usual attire?
Suit and tie...
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
No. We'll get the song and add it to our database. We just need to know the correct artist - title (version).
How many other DJs do you work with?
There's myself, John Bellagamba (djbells), and Job Palaya (dj jobadiah) who make up Rhythm Productions. However, most of us know of each other and have worked together at some point in time.
What is the minimum amount of time you will DJ for?
At least a song or two would be nice. Dj sets, times, and lengths depend on what the client is looking for, and what type of event they wish to create.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Yes, pre-meetings (quizzes) are normal in this business. Bookings over the phone and email are quite common too if you are already familiar with our style and what we have to offer.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
Not really, but we have included requested international music at specific events. (i.e. Irish, Greek, Italian music..etc)
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes please.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes. More technical detail is provided on our website.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
I personally mix with Ableton Live software which allows for a very creative style to the mix. We do not offer any lighting. There are a few local lighting companies that can provide those needs.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
Usually an hour is adequate time to setup, check sound, put on a suit, and start playing as guests arrive. More time is necessary when ceremonies are involved. Table and linens are required by the client or venue.
Do you have any extra space requirements?
No. We prefer a 6' table and room behind it, but can also fit into tight corners if needed.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
Do you usually emcee the event or talk between songs?
We can emcee if necessary with no mic chatter.
How would you motivate the crowd if no one is dancing?
It's rare, but if it happens, mix out of the current genre or set... or maybe the floor (dancers) just might need the rest to recoup.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
No breaks are needed, besides the normal bathroom break and walk around. Most venues and clients offer a meal, but it is not a requirement. We just ask for heads up so we can plan accordingly.
Will you arrange for recorded music to play during your breaks?
Yes, in this day and age, there is a heavy amount of automation and zero reason for a break in the music.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Rare, but if it happens, find backup ASAP! We have been on the calling end from venues for no-show Djs in the past. That is a testament to our reliability.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
Sometime, yes, but it depends on the event(s).
What is your overtime rate?
Average around $200/hr.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
Yes, depends on event location. No charge if location is reasonable local.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?

We worked with Job from Rhythm Productions and it was a positive experience all around. Job's rates are reasonable and he was extremely professional while working with us to plan the event as well as on the big day. Music was awesome during cocktail hour, dinner and dancing, and he knew when to work in our "must play" songs to keep the party going. 100% recommended.

John was referred to me by a good friend of mine. Unfortunately, John was not available for the day of my wedding as he was already booked but the next best thing was working with Job. Job was very friendly and made sure that my husband and I were happy with the "plan" for the big day. He asked a lot of questions and made sure he understood what we were looking for with our reception. All of our guests commented on how well the flow of the reception went and the quality of the music played. My only recommendation would be to review the day/date details with your DJ closer than a week or two out from your wedding.

The best music ever! After much deliberation we decided to hire a DJ, we needed a huge range of music and felt very comforatble that John could deliver. He did. we had music for everyone. Also,we had heard that loud music was an issue at Blithewold, but ther was no problem at all with our DJ. He was very professional and catered to every whim we had. Once again a great recommendation form Plantation Catering.

John exceeded all of our expectations at our wedding, which was quite a feat considering that he had set the bar pretty high in our meetings with him. He was extremely professional, responded to us immediately any time we contacted him, and has amazing taste and a good sense of humor. Right off the bat we knew we wanted him when he said that he categorically refuses to play the chicken dance or any other groan-worthy typical wedding songs. We could not believe how much everyone at our wedding danced--he really knew how to get the dance floor going, everyone was exhausted (in a good way) by the end of the night! Even my 90-year-old Grandma got out on the dance floor. He also seemed to magically intuit our musical taste, even though we weren't very articulate in describing it to him, because he played lots of our favorite artists during the cocktail hour and played songs everyone loves during the dance time. We luuuuuuuuurved him. If you want to throw a fantastic and fun party that's still elegant, you have to book with RhythmPro.

Great DJ-He kept the party going and did everything we asked.

DJ Bells really kept the dancing going. He was such a professional. We loved him! He also did the ceremony music. He was pleasant to work with also. Great personality.

We worked with John at Rhythm Productions. He quickly responded to all of our emails and phone calls. He did a fantastic job playing the music we wanted to play and staying away from the music we didn't want. He even tracked down songs that we requested rather than just ignoring them. He was also very respectful during the reception. The introductions were great and John asked us to okay requests for songs made by individual wedding guests. The music was fantastic and our guests were dancing the whole time. It was a great success!
