Our cake was part of our wedding package with the Vizcaya. We totally lucked out with this place! Our cake was not only super cute, it was delish! I sent a picture of a cake I had seen in a magazine and River City Cakes replicated it perfectly. Our cake was 3 tiers with the bottom tier in "Banana's Foster" and the top two tiers in chocolate with chocolate mouse. Soooooo YUMMY!

I ordered a cake from here for my 200 guest wedding. When I got to the wedding location I immediatly asked to see my cake. "It's not here yet" were the words from my mother. I had my wedding planner call in regards to where the cake was... Just an answering machine! When we realized the cake wasn't coming the Father of the Bride went out and purchased birthday sheet cakes from a local super market.

2 days later I finally heard from the bakery (they are closed from Saturday - Tuesday) All they could tell me was that the cake was delivered.

So, with that I decided to do some of my own investigating! I found out that the cake was left at another event going on at the same wedding location!The people told thm it wasn't their cake but RCC just left it there! They had my contact information and there is an administration office they should have gone too! The delivery driver was careless and didn't go the mile nor the extra mile that should be taken when you are dealing with weddings.

Now they won't refund the money I paid for the cake and are putting all of the blame on us. All of our other vendors had the same address as RCC and no one else had any issues!

Bad Business Plain & Simple! There are plenty of other bakeries out there, explore your options brides!

From the time my then fiancé and I had our consultation at River City to a few days before our wedding,
we were treated with respect. Most of the staff members there were nice and courteous. However, it only
took one staff member with an attitude to ruin the experience.

Before our wedding, we told them that we wanted ribbons wrapped around each tier and something to
support the ornament which we would put on top as a cake topper. I even showed the consultant sample pictures
of the cake on my laptop and the actual ornament. She told us that they would be able to fulfill our
requests. We just need to drop off the ribbon and leave the ornament on the cake table on the wedding
day for someone to put it on top of the cake. We were delighted with their accommodations.

On the Wednesday before our wedding, I dropped off the ribbon. An older lady pulled my paperwork out
and wrote my name on the spool. She was very nice. I showed her the actual ornament again to confirm
that it was ok to be placed on the top of the cake. She asked a man to talk to me, who reassured me that
they would place a dowel on the top for the ornament. My mistake was assuming that they had written all
this down on the paperwork.

Come Saturday, the cake was at the venue, but there was no ribbon or dowel. With some back-up plan,
we were still able to decorate the cake.

The next Friday, I returned to the bakery and asked for my ribbon back and to speak to the manager.
The manager was not there and the worker could not find my ribbon. I told her that I would call back.
When I called yesterday, I received poor customer service. The woman told me they usually are good
about putting ribbons on cakes and she didn’t know what happened to mine. She continued on, saying
that it wasn’t in their notes to put the dowel on the top. She repeatedly told me in a very rude tone that
they didn’t do anything wrong. I understand that they perhaps didn’t do anything wrong by following the
instructions on the day of our wedding, but somewhere in the process, someone forget to write the notes
down about our requests, when we were reassured twice that our requests would be met.

I would've been perfectly fine if they apologized and told me that they accidentally used the ribbon
for something else or the ribbon wouldn't stay on, but they couldn't even find the ribbon. A genuine

FYI: I planned my wedding from Indianapolis, INDIANA. (I took a job out here 1 1/2 years ago.)

PLEASE ASK ME FOR PICTURES OF THE CUPCAKES AND CAKE-POPS!!!!

I want to start of by saying not only did the reviews for River City Cakes swayed me to contract with them for my wedding, but my in-laws have used River City Cakes for 2 major family events AND my mother-in-law is the Controller for large CPA Firm and she's used River City Cakes for multiple events for her firm.

River City Cakes practically ruined my wedding day. We had a small intimate wedding of 80. I ordered 4 dozen cupcake and 3 dozen cake pops. They were incredibly accommodating at first. They were not prompt at answer their business phone but they would return calls after 24 hours but less than 48. I emailed "CARRIE" tons of pictures of what I liked; all I wanted was red velvet w/cream cheese frosting and the rest, a combo of chocolate cake and vanilla cake, done HOWEVER they wanted. I knew I couldn't be picky because I was 2,100 MILES away.

We went in for our taste test the week of our wedding on a Tuesday (wedding was on Saturday June 11, 2011). We waited for about 10 minutes because the cake pop was still "setting". It looked terrible but it tasted DELICIOUS. The girl proceeded to explain to me that they had some kind of emergency or something came up and was SINCERELY apologetic; we felt comfortable and confident when we left that everything was going to be fine.

This is what went wrong:

1. They asked for a contact person at the venue so they knew who to drop it off to on the day of our wedding. THEY DROPPED IT OFF ON A CORNER TABLE AND LEFT WITHOUT LETTING ANY ONE KNOW.

2. By the time I came up to the clubhouse to see the reception site before I got dressed for my ceremony the cup cakes and cake-pops were SWEATY. The cupcake frosting was MELTING off of the cupcake.

3. The cake-pops were FALLING off of the stick. I wanted UPSIDE down cake-pops/stick side up and they did the the OPPOSITE of what I wanted.

4. The cupcakes were not baked in the wrappers I gave them; the were baked in translucent white wrapper and then just tossed into MY wrapper. I bought ivory wrappers with deep purple damask pattern on it that were NOT used.

5. When I called back, "CARRIE" said, "Sorry there's nothing I can do." And that was it. NO REFUND, NO NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She did not sound apologetic. When I asked why they didn't tell anyone they were dropping it off, she said, "I don't know." When I asked her if she had any suggestions as to what I should do "CARRIE" said, "I don't know." She honestly sounded non-nonchalant, cold, and she just wanted to get out of the cake shop; this is right before they closed; she sounded like she wanted to start her weekend and didn't care what was happening.

The frosting on the cupcakes looked like they frosted them in the box instead of on a stand to make sure the frosting was even; all the cupcake frosting was terrible; it was lopsided, not any 2 cupcakes were remotely similar in size, shape, or height.

The cake-pops were what put me over the top!!! All I wanted was an orange ball of cake with dark purple polka dots... ALL the cake-pops were almost practically the size of a golf ball, not all, but most. Not any 2 cake-pops were the same in diameter; they were ALL different from one another, and they were ALL lopsided and 3/4 of the cake-pops had FALLEN OFF OF THE STICK by the time it was setup on the terrace...

I also ordered a 4" round topper for our cake display; this is the cake that we were going to freeze and then eat again for our one year anniversary. Well... It turned out beautiful... BUT NOT WHAT I ORDERED. I told the young girl that was helping us the day of our taste test that I want very simple damask patterns on the cake AND I pointed out a sample cake they had in their shop that I liked as an example... It was not at all what I wanted although they did do a good job of color match with the 2 color swatches that I provided them, but again, NOT what I ordered.

I really tried hard explaining to "CARRIE" what was going on; she was uninterested and she literally said, "Sorry, there's nothing left to say," about 3-4 times before I hung up.

It is such a SHAME! They have COUNTLESS rave reviews and they were a personal recommendation from my OWN family... What went wrong? The "owner" was suppose to call me back on Tuesday, June 15, 2011 but I have not heard anything from them. They offered NO solution when I was desperate, they offered NO refund, and there was NO phone call from the owner like I was promised.

We did not even have a cake cutting because the cupcakes and the cake-pops were so terrible looking on our desert table. I can honestly the cake was the only thing that went wrong at our wedding; Rebecca Kirtlan, Special Events Director, Morton Golf did a fantastic job at ensuring NOTHING went wrong but she could not control how the cupcakes and cake-pops turned out.

I am sorry I had such a terrible experience with River City Cake Company.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding recently that ordered cupcakes and cakepops from River City Cake. The bride was very impressed with the friendly and easy to deal with manner of the employees at the store (which was so important because she was planning the wedding from a long distance). Pictures were sent to the company to clarify what types of cakepops needed to be made (stick up or down, which makes all the difference in displaying the pops), what colors, the patterning on the small cake that the couple would keep to eat at their one year anniversary, etc. She also bought special cupcake liners that she wanted to be used for the cupcakes. When the order arrived, they were simply left on the table at the venue. Here are all the issues with the end product: 1) the cupcake liners were not used to bake the cupcakes, but were simply set "around" the cupcake which looked really awful 2)the cupcakes were lopsided. I am pretty sure that I could have done a better job icing these cupcakes...with my eyes closed 3)The cupcake pops were FALLING APART 4) The cupcake pops were not made in the way directed (stick up with a flat bottom which completely messed up the display we had planned) 5) The couple's cake was not patterned in the way that was instructed. The bride wanted damask and she got polka dots. After the bride took a look at the cake, cupcakes, and cakepops she was very upset. She called the company and they refused to help make up their mistakes to her. They wouldn’t bring more cupcakes to replace the cakepops that were falling apart, they would not give her any money back, and they kept saying sorry but there was nothing they could do. Without the cupcake pops, there was not enough cake for all those attending the wedding, so the bridesmaids and groomsmen did not eat cake. I would not recommend this company. They do not deliver the product promised and when they confronted about it, they are unprofessional.

My wedding cake was pretty customized with many architectural detailing. The decoration of my cake turned out a little bit more sloppy than I had envisioned, but overall it still looked fairly good.

We had asked for buttercream and NO fondant, but in the end they used fondant without contacting us to tell us, so I took a star from responsiveness for that.

That all said, the cake was absolutely delicious. The mocha, lemon and peanut butter flavors that we ordered for the various tiers just tasted so darn good!

Overall, I would recommend River City Cake Co. They were easy to work with, took my designs and turned it into a pretty and delicious cake.

We had asked for buttercream and NO fondant, but in the end they used fondant without contacting us to tell us, so I took a star from responsiveness for that.

That all said, the cake was absolutely delicious. The mocha, lemon and peanut butter flavors that we ordered for the various tiers just tasted so darn good!

My fiance and I didn't even have an appointment, but they weren't busy so they allowed us to have a tasting and pick our cake that day. We didn't have a design in mind at all so they let us look through books and point out styles we liked and styles we didn't. They worked within our budget and helped us select a cake that is simple & elegant. (They let us take a fondant cake and make it buttercream to save money, and they allowed us to make sugar flowers into buttercream to save money.)

The taste-test cake was moist, the frosting was light and fluffy, and the flavors were unique. The gal who helped us suggested certain combinations, and we took her advice.

We made some changes to our cake after the initial order, and they captured everything correctly. Our wedding cake looked exactly the way it was supposed to, it arrived on time, and it must have been delicious because there was not a single slice left. We had a minor glitch a month or so before the wedding (we called and emailed to change something and we didn't hear back for a week) but they were responsive every other time we contacted them so I know they were just in a very busy time. Each time I called or emailed, they got back to me quickly.

The only bummer, and this is not their fault so it doesn't affect their rating, is that we didn't get a chance to eat our cake :( We tasted the frosting (delicious!) when we cut the cake and we were eager to taste the top and middle layers (those two layers were our favorite choices). Unfortunately, there was a mixup at our venue and we never got a chance to eat our cake.

Luckily, River City Cakes offers a free small cake on our 1 year anniversary, so you don't have to save it in your freezer for a year and then deal with a freezer-burned mess. As you can imagine, my husband and I are counting down the days until our anniversary so we can FINALLY taste our wedding cake. Every single piece was eaten (and we ordered a cake for more people than attended) and folks told us it was delicious. If only we had tasted that for ourselves.... my hubby is pretty bummed nearly 2 weeks later.

They worked within our budget and helped us select a cake that is simple & elegant. (They let us take a fondant cake and make it buttercream to save money, and they allowed us to make sugar flowers into buttercream to save money.)

The taste-test cake was moist, the frosting was light and fluffy, and the flavors were unique. The gal who helped us suggested certain combinations, and we took her advice.

We made some changes to our cake after the initial order, and they captured everything correctly. Our wedding cake looked exactly the way it was supposed to, it arrived on time, and it must have been delicious because there was not a single slice left. We had a minor glitch a month or so before the wedding (we called and emailed to change something and we didn't hear back for a week) but they were responsive every other time we contacted them so I know they were just in a very busy time. Each time I called or emailed, they got back to me quickly.

The only bummer, and this is not their fault so it doesn't affect their rating, is that we didn't get a chance to eat our cake :( We tasted the frosting (delicious!) when we cut the cake and we were eager to taste the top and middle layers (those two layers were our favorite choices). Unfortunately, there was a mixup at our venue and we never got a chance to eat our cake.

Luckily, River City Cakes offers a free small cake on our 1 year anniversary, so you don't have to save it in your freezer for a year and then deal with a freezer-burned mess. As you can imagine, my husband and I are counting down the days until our anniversary so we can FINALLY taste our wedding cake. Every single piece was eaten (and we ordered a cake for more people than attended) and folks told us it was delicious. I've used River City Cakes twice! I had an all women's wedding in October and an official wedding with family from around the country on December 4th. The cake that I bought from RCC's in October was very disappointing. I sent photos of what I wanted the cake to look like and while it was sort of similar, it didn't look all that well done and there were chocolate crumbs on the top of the cake and around in white butter cream frosting. The neopolitan cake had NO raspberry filling so I don't feel that I got the most for my money there. I had already signed the contract for a wedding cake in December but after receiving RSVPs knew that I didn't need 90 servings and settled on just a cake shaped like a car for hubby. I was sooo nervous about it because of the quality of my first cake but went along with it anyway because I'd already given a deposit. When I walked into my wedding site and saw the cake, I let out one huge sigh of relief!! The cake was gorgeous and looked so much like my hubby's favourite car! It was such a nice surprise and it tasted delicious as well (though the blue colouring for the fondant does dye your fingers, teeth, lips and everything else basically). They definitely made up for the first cake and I would love to use them again... baby shower?? Give me a few years!! ahah
