Frequently Asked Questions for DJ
Do you have liability insurance?
Describe your DJ style:
My style is classy and understated, yet fun. I never steal the spotlight, or get involved with any of the cheesy antics that some DJs are known for.
Is there a limit to the amount of music that can be requested?
My music library consists of over 40,000 songs in all genres of music ranging from the 1940's to today's current Top 40. However, there is no need to make large song lists as the more I can "read the crowd", the more dancing there will be.
What is your usual attire?
Suit and tie (tie color matches one your wedding colors).
If you do not have one of the songs pre-requested by the client, do you require that they provide it?
Any "must play" or spotlight songs that I don't have (which is rare), I will get as long as the song is available on iTunes or YouTube. Regarding some of the more recent songs, I play only the clean radio edits (no F-bombs!).
How many other DJs do you work with?
I am a sole proprietor. I do not have employees or subcontractors. If you hire me, you get me.
Is the client able to meet the DJ before booking?
Absolutely. If you hire me, you get me. We will meet at least twice before wedding day....first at the initial consultation, and then again at the planning meeting two to three months out where we will discuss all the details of my 4-Page Reception Planner Worksheet.
Do you specialize in any ethnic or international events?
I specialize in weddings only. I am currently Colorado's only DJ that exclusively does weddings.
Can the client submit a do-not-play list?
Yes. The best receptions are those where there is a wide variety of music for everybody. Using my 20+ years of music programming experience, there is no need to provide large song lists. However, feel free to let me know any songs you REALLY want to hear and REALLY DON'T want to hear. As mentioned above, the more I can "read the crowd", the more dancing there will be.
Do you bring your own equipment?
Yes, of course. While shopping around, keep in mind that all DJs bring professional sound equipment and lots of music. The thing that separates the full-time professionals from the part-timers is their ability to not only "read a crowd" and know what to play, but also being able to inform, guide, and direct your guests throughout the entire reception.
What (if any) special equipment, such as disco balls or lighting, is offered with your service?
Uplighting is available.
How much time do you usually need to set up? Do you require that the site or client provide a table for you to set up on?
Depending on the services needed, I arrive at the venue two to three hours before your guests.
Do you have a sign or banner that you use at events?
Yikes! Do DJs still do this?
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
There is music playing from the time the guests arrive at the cocktail hour until the last dance. Volume levels are appropriate (cocktail hour and dinner are lower than dance time). No breaks are taken.
What is your backup plan in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
I have NEVER missed a wedding since starting Ron Michaels Weddings back in 1993. In case of an emergency where I could not attend your wedding, I will find a substitute, refund any money you have paid me, and pay for the substitute DJ myself. This guarantee, along with two others, is written on my contract.
Do you book yourself for more than one event in a day?
No. I have a "one wedding per day" limit.
Do you charge for travel expenses? If yes, how much do you charge?
There may be mileage and overnight charges for weddings outside the Northern Colorado / Front Range area. Rates vary based on location and date.
What is the required deposit to secure your services?
Pricing, packages, and deposits are all discussed at our initial consultation. Please be advised that I do not quote prices over the phone or e-mail. An initial consultation is required for all potential clients as there is no way I can explain my unique services in a phone call or e-mail. Check out my website's "Pricing & Policies" page for more information. I look forward to meeting you and your fiance in the near future to discuss your wedding plans. Thanks!
