I am recommending this venue solely because it is a beautiful, unique place to get married.
We got married on the Fiesta Stage in the gardens of the courthouse. The courthouse had very strict rules (no flower petals, no music, no aisle runner, no speakers, etc.). We feel as if we overpaid to have simply the venue and nothing more. They provided nothing.
Contacting people was extremely difficult. I would e-mail one person one month and try to e-mail them again the next month, but someone else had taken over their position. Sometimes I would not even get a reply.
There were no weddings ahead of mine the day of, and I had asked if the rental crew could start setting the chairs up 30 min-1 hr before my rental time (rental times are in 3 hour blocks). They said no. I didn't really see the problem with this, because there were no weddings going on.
The no-amplification rule worked out for us because we had a very small wedding, but even some of the guests couldn't hear the ceremony at times.

If you are looking for just a pretty, simple venue, then I would recommend the courthouse. But if you want to have a large, extravagant wedding, I would strongly advise against.

Beautiful location! The mural room is stunning, and a jewel for a west coast wedding. Not to mention highly affordable and the grounds are breathtaking. Lots of memorable picture opportunities.

This a fantastic location for a small wedding. Even during the busy event of Fiesta in Santa Barbara, we were able to find the perfect location around the courthouse to have our ceremony. It was such a beautiful and refreshing location. I encourage any and all SoCal brides to consider the Santa Barbara Courthouse if you are looking for a small, intimate setting.

We got married at the Mural Room.
The room was beautiful and the person in charge was really great to work with deciding on dates and things.

However, the room was a bit dark in middle of the day (3pm) ceremony. The weather was cloudy and it did not help us. I hope that my photographer was able to capture great moments with poor lightening.

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is a beautiful location and the Mural Room is fabulous. They provide 3 blocks of 2 hours and we chose the latest block, 2:30-4:30pm. The room was just perfect for us and requires very little decoration. We opted not to have any ceremony flowers beyond the personals, bouquets, boutonnieres etc. One thing, the room has not been fitted with air conditioning or heaters as to not compromise the historical structure. Because of this the room takes on the temperature of outside. It was 68 degrees on our day so it was perfect! It is a fantastic ceremony site and I would highly recommend using this site.

The person I used was Alma Rose Middleton. I like her talking on the phone, however I should have talked to her a little more about what she said during the ceremony. She kinda went on a bit and I felt a little awkward. But having my ceremony on the beach was the best thing ever. I will never forget it.

The Santa Barbara Courthouse is a beautiful wedding ceremony location. However, there may be other weddings happening at the same time and this may dissuade you from choosing as a vendor. Do not let it bother you! This is truly an amazing place to get married and if you are like us you will not focus on any other wedding but your own.

The Courthouse only provided our ceremony venue, not our reception venue. It is a unique location. It's the county courthouse for Santa Barbara, but you can use the gardens for weddings. You can't reserve anything in advance, but it's free and there are so many pretty spots, it's hard to imagine not getting somewhere nice. We went by and determined that there would have to be 5 or 6 weddings going on at the same time for there not to be a nice spot. You have to set up your chairs and stuff no more than half an hour or hour before (I can't remember exactly), and then take them down right afterward. Sounds like kind of a pain, and it is a little bit, but it also means that there aren't chairs and stuff set up all day for someone else's wedding that's only going to take half an hour.

Be aware, if you call them to ask how it works (you don't have to do this, but it's probably a good idea to check whether the rules have changed), they may try to convince you that it's a nightmare to have a wedding there. When I called, the woman I talked to said something about having brides calling her crying all the time because they didn't get the spot they wanted. It's true, if you are one of those people who has to know exactly how everything is going to look, this place is probably not for you. You're not guaranteed anything. But if you're the slightest bit flexible, it will probably work out fine. Just make sure there's not an event happening the weekend of your wedding!

We had our ceremony in the Bell Tower of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Beautiful 360 degree views of Santa Barbara and very initimate. We had our guests stand for our short ceremony since it is open to the public, but 30-50 people up there is comfortable standing. The elevator only holds 10 people at a time, so hopefully no tour groups are in line for your wedding. But still a wonderful location!
