At the end of a beautiful day, you deserve beautiful pictures.

Photographing a wedding day as it unfolds is one of the most inspiring and touching things to take part in. As an artist and a true people-person, I find the luscious details, emotions and stories so fascinating, each wedding is a sincere pleasure to witness. My focus is on telling your unique story through pictures... full of as much fun, passion and emotion as your partnership!

While I love a great, edgy and modern photograph, I also aim to capture a sort of dreamy nostalgia in my images. I still use some film and toy cameras alongside my pro-digital system, and I feel this adds to the unique voice of each collection.
One of the unique services I offer is my Super 8 Wedding Films, which is my answer to some of the less-than-thrilling video options out there. Capturing a wedding this way produces dreamy, edgy and fun results, and is an excellent compliment to my still photography.

I also really enjoy helping brides feel simply gorgeous before, during and after their wedding day, and a Boudoir Session can do just that, and, of course, makes a great gift for the lucky groom!

I aim to offer the highest-quality client experience, along with images that surpass your expectations and that you'll cherish for a lifetime.. Thank you for visiting me on WeddingWire! Please go to my website for portfolios and info!

What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Portraiture
What do your packages include?
Albums, Custom Graphic Design, Digital Files, Flush Mount, High Resolution Images, Matted Prints, Negatives, Proof CD of All Images, Video Montage
Do you have liability insurance?
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
Shooting with professional digital equipment in RAW format enables me to treat each image as it's own unique piece of the wedding story. Every aspect of a photograph is considered when I am finalizing a collection for a client. I usually offer a color and a b&w version of each photograph, and I also use other special digital darkroom techniques to create vintage-inspired, alternative & vintage style and creatively expressed images.
Sepia, Black & White, Cross-Processed/Alt Color Images.
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
I have experience with all types of lighting situations. On the beach, by the fire-pit, in the Gothic-inspired castle with 25 foot high-ceilings, you are in good hands. I use available light whenever possible, or a mix of natural light and strobe, and feel this produces the most professional and timeless wedding story.
Is your media preference film or digital?
I prefer to work in film AND digital, and find a sincere reason and love for both. At most weddings, I add in film for portraiture, still-lives of the day and some unique, toy-camera moments. The film negatives are scanned after processing, and I alter them in my digital darkroom as I would a RAW digital file. This creates a seamless vision within your collection, but the film produces some things that digital just can't touch yet. I still use my real darkroom from time to time, to make high-quality prints for clients, if desired. The film negatives are the clients to keep after the images have been edited!
How many photographers do you work with?
I have a few professional photographers that I shoot with if two photographers (or more) are necessary to best capture your event. I can advise you as to whether or not your event warrants one, two or more professional photographers.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
I 100% guarantee my presence at the event, unless an act of God, or severe illness keeps me from being conscious enough to get there. In those cases, (which have never occurred to date), I would arrange for one of my trusted colleagues to arrive and shoot the event for me.
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
I never book more than one wedding a day, and I tend to not over book a weekend either. I want to be fresh, rested and arrive at your event with an open mind and heart, so I try to make the weekend your time. If I am asked to shoot a wedding on an alternate day, such as a Friday or Sunday, I will consider the size of the second wedding, and the amount of work it will take to capture, before I commit.
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
Well, let's see.. it can depend on the event, the size of the guest list, etc., but in general, I have an arsenal in my bag :)
I arrive with: Nikon Professional Digital camera body and 2+ lenses, a back-up set-up as above, 2 professional strobes and diffusers/ reflectors/flash-softeners, one Lens_baby toy digital lens, toy film cameras, professional medium format film camera, 40 Gigs of memory or more, Emergency Kit (includes: nail polish, safety pins, clothes pins and clothes line, small weights, white sheet, scissors, etc.), tripod, maybe a lighting kit, and.....more!
I carry two professional digital systems, one with an alternative lens, and one with a nice versatile wedding lens that lets me get close or wide depending on the moment. I enjoy capturing candids of people when they don't know I'm taking their photo, so that requires a nice zoom lens. I bring a Nikon D-3 body, and a Nikon D-300 body, both outfitted with lenses described above. I also bring a backup digital body, just in case of disaster.
I also have three of my favorite medium format film cameras with me that I use before during and after the ceremony, and to capture portraits and still lives. I put my film cameras away for the reception for ease of getting around the crowd.
I bring flashes (2), a battery pack, several reflectors, diffusers and other accessories.
All this gear sounds like i show up with three suitcases and three assistants, but I have it paired down to the necessities and it's a very compact and tidy little bundle!
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Do you charge hourly or full day?
I charge a full day rate, then clients can add hours on if need be, so both.
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
Yes, I'm available for shooting overtime if necessary. I charge $350 per hour extra, which covers my time (plus an assistant) and the time to process all the extra images that I will shoot. If there is a second pro-shooter with me, and they stay as well, it's $300 each. (For an assistant to stay, it's and extra $50 for them added to my $300, thus the $350).
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
I find that I don't usually take any breaks, but I may need to rehydrate during the shooting hours of an event. While the couple and their guests are eating, I will take a short break to refresh, especially if I am shooting a six-ten hour event.
Do you charge for travel?
Yes. Any fees that I accrue in getting to, leaving and photographing your wedding, (including ferry fees, hotel rooms, rental cars, gas (if over a certain distance), special rented items you require, etc), must be reimbursed by the client.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Proofs are usually ready 2-3 months after the wedding in my busy season (summer), and 1-2 month/s in the slower season (winter).
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
Clients can order a printed proof book a la carte, or within certain packages, which contains 3"x2" thumbnails of each final photograph I present. All clients get a password protected website viewing gallery with a jpg version of all of your final photographs. Prints can be purchased directly from the site, and so the gallery is an excellent way for your guests to order prints without hassle. I keep my prints prices very very reasonable, to facilitate the process.
I include in each wedding package a DVD slideshow of my top 200+ images, set to music. The slideshow is part of the final presentation.
How long can the client keep the proofs?
I don't usually offer proof prints as part of my basic packages, but they can be included if clients want them for an extra fee. I offer a proof book, which shows a 3"x2" thumbnail of each photograph, and the book is the client's to keep.
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
Yes, most photographers retain the copyright to each photograph they make. I give my wedding clients limited permissions to duplicate/reprint their images for their personal use, (prints for guests, themselves and family, etc.), and ask only that they not distribute, appropriate or publish any of my images without my written permission and a photo credit.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
Yes, I reserve the right to use any of my images in the promotion of my business. I use the utmost tact and discretion when choosing images that best represent the type of work I love to do, and I would never use any images in a defamatory way. Special arrangements can be made, if the images are of a sensitive nature, and I rarely use images from my Bridal Boudoir Sessions in my advertising, and never without talking to a client first.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
Yes, clients receive discs containing jpg images, sized to 5x7.5" at 300dpi, and any and all film negatives or scans of the film negatives. Higher resolution TIF files can be purchased and are included in some packages, as can images pre-formatted for large scale printing.
Will images be available for viewing online?
What kind of albums do you offer?
I prefer creating flush-mounted, hard cover coffee table books for clients, but I will help with the creation of any kind of album, formal or casual. I have a lot of experience in graphic design, and I custom create a new layout for each client. Flush-mounted albums allow for panoramic spreads without interruption, which adds to the interest and visual variety of each page. These albums can contain up to 50 sides, (25 pages), which seems to easily tell a client's wedding story.
I make custom, hand-made archival albums of my own, as well, starting at $500 without prints, which are totally customizable and unique to a clients event.
I use Azuka Book, Renaissance and a few other vendors to provide wedding albums to my clients.
I also offer matted collections of prints, displayed in an archival photo box. Clients can then frame them or keep them in the portfolio for easy sharing.
When will the client get the final album?
Books can take between 2- 4 months to create, print and ship, depending on the type of album you get. Softcover coffee table books take less time than hard cover, flush-mounted albums.

Sara is an absolute photography goddess! She is insanely talented, lovely to work with, and an amazing presence to have at any event. She made our guests perfectly comfortable being photographed, leading people without making them feel like she was directing them. Her brilliant eye for what is special, along with her great energy and stellar photos, make her the best choice for capturing any special event. I want her to be the photographer of my life! Thank you Sara.

Sara was a truely a gift from above. She took a quirky and barely structured wedding and turned it into an artistic masterpiece. Her photos included gorgeous, intimate shots of my husband and I as well as amazing photos of the wedding party and guests, including candid snapshots and posed photos. Her attitude was fun and celebratory - she fit right in as she made the rounds capturing everyone on film. In addition, we received a phenomenal super 8 film that tops any wedding video I have ever seen. She captured the vintage feel of our wedding and the music she selected for the film was entirely expressive of the event. She also prepared a DVD slideshow which showcases our favorite photos. Working with Sara was a pleasure in every way and I highly recommend her!

Sara is a professional with a warm, beautiful way about her. Sara laughs and has fun doing her job. At the wedding, we never felt ordered around as we did portraits. (I've seen it!) Beforehand we discussed our ideas for our photos--our wedding was totally 1930's-40's vintage looking. Sara even visited the venue before the wedding! I enjoyed feeling that even though we were paying her to do something, she was having fun at our party. Love her!

Sara Tro is an exceptional photographer. Not only is she a joy to be around, she has an incredible eye for fine art photography and she gives 110% to her clients. We loved the photographs she took of our wedding. They tell the story of our special day and hold so much detail and beauty. Also all of our guests loved Sara, people feel very much at ease having their picture taken by her. I would highly recommend Sara for your wedding, for portraits or any special event you want to hold dear in photographs.

Sara was a fantastic choice for photographer for our special day. Not only does she capture magical moments, but she turns them into works of art. She also created a super 8 movie for our wedding video that is unique and stunning, and will be treasured by our family for generations! Aside from being an outstanding artist, Sara is also a positive, warm, calming person to be around--she puts people at their ease and deals beautifully with cranky relatives! She was a joy to work with, and definitely has a gift for capturing all the love and joy of a wedding day on film. This was BY FAR my best vendor choice, and Sara will continue to be my family's photographer of choice for any future events!

We LOVE our wedding pictures and feel very lucky to have found Sara Tro.

We planned a Seattle Wedding from NYC and a friend suggested I contact Sara. As soon as I met her, I knew that she would be a fantastic fit for our wedding. She went out of her way to meet me on one of my few trips to Seattle before the wedding and spent hours getting to know me and my ideas for the event. She came out to our wedding site twice to get a feel for the location and an idea of what the light would be like.

She shot with 4 different cameras-a fancy digital camera, an old school manual camera, a medium format camera and a toy camera. As a result, we have several different kinds of photographs, all of which blew me away. Sara had a great eye for the "traditional" wedding shots of our families, wedding party, friends, etc. It's hard to get 30 people all looking great at one time and she nailed it. And in the photos of the guests and groomsmen (while they waited for the tardy bride!) the ceremony, dinner and reception, she managed to capture not only the subjects, but the mood of the event in a way I didn't think was possible. The photos are stunning.

She also managed to take photos of the ceremony without anyone noticing she was even there--like a photographer ninja! Sara was great to work with and the results are fantastic. We didn't have a videographer, but we didn't need one. In narrative, texture, mood and tone, Sara's photos tell the story of our wedding day.

I had a destination wedding in the Caribbean, and I am happy to admit that I could not have made a better choice for a photographer than Sara Tro. Not only was she incredibly flexible about travel and the environment (it's not easy to hike from the NW to the Caribbean!), but she also was happy to work with us on the types of photos (we wanted lots of candids and not as many posed shots). Plus, to top it all off, she as a delightfully sunny personality, and set everyone at ease. The perfect person to capture such an important day. And SUCH fun photos. She's terrific.
