My wife and I had a winter wedding at Seasons utilizing only the inside and not the patio. I will sum up our reception at Seasons in the words of my mother, “the atmosphere was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced at a wedding;” or my uncle, himself a photographer who attends weddings as a profession, “this is the best food I’ve ever had at a wedding reception;” or a guest of my wife’s family, who my wife had barely previously known, “this is the best wedding I have ever been to.”

Look at the other options first. Hotels often offer great food and rather large reception space, but can be very expensive. Country clubs and professional reception halls tend to be more reasonably priced with pretty good food and decent size space; but the spaces can be sterile - often rooms with no windows, or lack any intimacy. Indeed, this can be true of hotels as well. Furthermore, both hotels and country clubs/reception halls are in the business of mass production event planning. They push you in, they push you out, you have a beautiful night, yadda, yadda, the reception is done, and the next one starts. And then there is Seasons.

First of all, I challenge you to find reception food better than at Seasons. The per plate cost of our meal package (which included cake, bar and appetizers) was very reasonable. Seasons is a restaurant first - not hotel or golf club first - and their food shows it. Second, you will not beat the intimacy of the space. Seasons is in a house built in the 1800’s (albeit greatly expanded since) and located in historic Long Grove - which our guests found interesting and made for great outdoor pictures (the covered bridge is perfect). You will not find the same history in a country club probably built 20 years ago - new enough to look modernly sterile, while still appearing slightly out-of-date. My wife and I looked intently at country clubs, both new and historic; and decided those locations didn’t match Seasons’s charm. Of course, the flip side of “intimate” is small size, which we were concerned about. I was also worried that the dance floor would be too small. Frankly, your guests will be packed in a little more at Seasons then they likely would be at larger venues. But, honestly, that’s just fine. When getting married, you pay close attention to the weddings you attend (which you coincidentally end up going to a lot more of after you get engaged). I learned that reception spaces are chronically oversized, leaving guests too far out to interact. Also, next time you are at a wedding with a large dance floor, take note of how many people are dancing. Odds are that it is often sparse; most DJ’s will tell you that smaller dance floors make for better parties. Dancing at our reception went on all night, and the floor was never empty. Such is the perceptual advantage of the Seasons dance floor. It is small enough such that you feel like you’re in a big crowd no matter how many people are out there; and we had a lot of people on the floor. Finally, Seasons has an X Factor unlike anything you will find at other venues - the owner, Frank. My wife and I had meetings at other venues sandwiched between a wedding reception in one room and a funeral reception in the other. We were in, we were out, we got the hard sell, and we were gone. Frank sat down with us and painstakingly went through our questions before we asked them. You will not find a restaurant or owner more willing to work with you personally than Seasons and Frank. Go to most wedding receptions and take a wrong turn - you will end up at someone else’s wedding reception in the Evergreen Room One when you meant to go to the Green Pine Room Four. Or else maybe your father will give his toast while “Poker face” is blaring through the walls from the room next door. Seasons shuts down the entire restaurant to focus solely on your reception.

This isn’t to say that Seasons is perfect. The bathrooms are quite small, although, as far as we can tell, bathrooms weren’t an issue at our reception. Also, we received reports from some of our vendors that a few of the Seasons staff were somewhat unresponsive in working to decorate the room. However, the room ultimately looked great and was ready in time. Indeed, the level of service at Seasons is generally exceptional whether for a reception or just regular dining. Bottom line, I would strongly recommend at least considering Seasons when planning your event. Sit down and talk with Frank, and let him walk through the decision with you. You may not decide that Seasons is best for you. But you will be torn between the option you ultimately choose and Seasons. We chose Seasons, and it was exceptional.

this place is amazing! they did such a wonderful job with everything. the food was awesome, everyone kept coming up to me and telling me that this was the best food they had ever had at a wedding, and even better than most restaurants they had ever been to!
the service was great, all of the staff was so thoughtful and professional. they really did a marvelous job.
the manager, Frank, was wonderful as well. he made everything so easy and took care of all of the little requests i had without a problem.
long grove is also such a beautiful town so you can get great pictures and Seasons also has that feel. they also have a back patio that we used for our dance floor. it was nice to have the dancing outside.
overall this place exceeded my expectations! if i could i would give them 10 stars!

Frank was extremely helpful and provided a lot of good advice....he's obviously done this quite a few times and knows exactly what he is doing. He assigned a "manager for the night" to me in case I needed ANYTHING. I can't think of a single thing I'd recommend to Seasons to do differently. I had a great time and the cost was very reasonable for everything I recive. My wedding was a huge success and a day I'll remember for the rest of my life.

I chose this site because of the intimacy. It was like having it in my dining room. The food was great people said that they truely enjoyed it. I think that Frank went above and beyond to make our day extra special.
