At Snaptacular Photos, we believe in gorgeous, fun loving photography. We offer images that are both relaxed and beautiful, while maintaining a candid, photojournalistic style. We have unique goodies including a photobooth and custom handmade albums. All of our packages are custom built to your specifications, so you're sure to get exactly what you want.

Snaptacular Photos is owned and operated by JD and Jessica Merritt in Katy, TX. We serve the Houston area, particularly Katy, Sugar Land, and Richmond, but we're not afraid of a little travel. We specialize in wedding photography and family portraits.

Our style is anything but traditional. Call it lifestyle, photojournalistic, or candid-we capture life as it comes, with all of the mess, the fun, and the emotions it brings.

JD has been a photographer for over a decade and has made photos both his passion and profession. He has a degree in photography and graphic design from the University of Colorado. And perhaps most importantly, he is an avid board game enthusiast.

Jessica is a freelance editor and writer, beer connoisseur, and Pinterest experimenter. She has a degree in English literature from the University of Houston, but is addicted to terrible Kindle books.

Do you have liability insurance?
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
We've shot in everything from bright, harsh midday to extremely poorly lit chapels and rocked them all. Don't worry-we can handle it!
How many photographers do you work with?
We offer two photographers for every wedding. JD is the main photographer, and you'll get Jessica as a bonus! We can provide additional photographers upon request.
Do you guarantee your presence at the actual event?
Yes, we will do everything within our power to make it to your wedding! If in the extremely unlikely situation that we cannot shoot your wedding, we will take advantage of our strong network of professional photographers to make sure that you're taken care of!
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Who has the energy for that? We commit ourselves 100% to your wedding, so there's no way we can shoot more than one each day!
Do you have a replacement photographer in case you become unavailable on the day of the event?
Absolutely, yes! It's good to have friends!
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
We use professional grade Canon cameras, lenses, and flashes. We also have a mobile studio setup for our photobooth.
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Yes! We trust our equipment...but not that much!
Do you charge hourly or full day?
Both. We offer comprehensive coverage including up to 10 hours, as well as an hourly option for shorter weddings.
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
For weddings more than 10 hours, we can accommodate extra hours. Please contact us to discuss.
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We do require a meal break for weddings 6 hours or longer. While we appreciate a client-provided meal, it's not required.
Do you charge for travel?
We do not charge for travel within the greater Houston area. This includes Galveston all the way to Huntsville, and even far West (Sealy, Cat Springs, etc). We do charge for travel to other locations on a per-case basis. Please contact us.
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
We shoot to have photos ready within a month. During heavy processing schedules, it may be 6-8 weeks.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
We use an online proofing and ordering site, which will remain online for three months after its initial launch. It can be extended upon request. We also post our favorites to our blog and Facebook, and we encourage sharing!
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
With every wedding, we provide both a high resolution and web resolution (Facebook, email) file for each image proofed.
Will images be available for viewing online?
Yes, on our proofing and ordering site as well as our blog and Facebook.
What kind of albums do you offer?
We offer gorgeous leather flush mount albums as well as press printed professional albums.
When will the client get the final album?
We create initial album designs within 2 weeks of releasing proofs. Once approved, albums are typically ready within 6-8 weeks.

I cannot express how amazing JD & Jessica (Snaptacular Photos) were! From our first meeting we felt super comfortable with them. We loved how open they were to different shots, suggestions and poses, and having our four legged son included as well ;) They made us feel so comfortable during our engagement session, when we were both nervous. I was also very fortunate to see them in action at my cousin's wedding a few months prior. Their photos are beautiful, and service is wonderful, the best feeling is having someone you can talk to as a friend, instead of just a "vendor" - this is them! We even got a photo booth with our package which guests loved! I cannot wait to see the photos from our February wedding. If you are considering using them, you will not be disappointed!!!

Jessica and JD provided me with exceptional service as I worked with them to document my wedding. I was able to talk with them one on one as much as needed to make decisions and discuss details. A huge point I would like to bring up is that Jessica and JD did not force me into taking generic wedding pictures. There is a sense of creativity and realism that they bring to every picture they take. Also, they are one of the most reasonably priced photographers out there. My pictures and album came out beautifully. Did I mention that they are generally lovely people? You won't be disappointed!

our pictures were taken by Snaptacular Photos of katy, tx. DO NOT USE THEM! they were wonderful and they took wonderful photos but after the wedding it was like pulling teeth to contact them or get anything from them. we got married may 22, we ordered our prints and canvases in late august and just TODAY got everything right. we have had to return stuff and ask for more stuff that we have already paid for. they are great photographers but TERRIBLE BUISINESS PEOPLE!! BEWARE OF THEM!! they will charge you out of the nose and then wait for as long as they can to give you the goods. they were rude and evasive. AGAIN! DO NOT USE THEM!!

When working with custom art, it's important to understand that some products simply take time to create. A timeline experienced by this client is not typical, however, this customer experienced a significant delay in receiving a correct final product due to problems beyond our control, including manufacturer error, emails lost by the client, and the client failing to check for packages that had already been delivered.

The client discovered a manufacturer error, and brought it to our attention over Thanksgiving vacation. We explained that there would be a delay in arranging and constructing a remake, as well as communicating while we were out of town, but the client was still impatient. Nonetheless, the remake was submitted on rush order and delivered promptly. We have offered apologies, as well as additional remakes on items that were ordered incorrectly by the client, but the client has not been reasonable in this process. In the end, this client has received beautiful photographs, everything that was ordered, and then some. We have done our best to satisfy this client.

Unfortunately, we believe there is nothing else we can do to make her happy.
The photographers were very nice to work with, and had great personalities, as well as a great photographic style. However, I was disappointed with the number of photos I received overall (based on time shot, number of pictures from the wedding photo booth, a second shooter etc), and there was a significant delay in receiving the photos (8-9 months after the wedding. We had some posted online slightly earlier, but they weren't hi-res for us to keep).

Additionally, there were several photos from our engagement shoot that we never saw, and it was apparently due to a bad memory card. This obviously made me very nervous when it came to receiving wedding pictures, as I was not told of the memory card issue until I specifically asked about the photos.

To their credit, they were prompt and professional, as well as flexible with scheduling out of town engagement shoots, and also had a baby due shortly after the wedding. Also, we moved a few months after our wedding, and they graciously sent a new copy of our wedding photo DVD, free of charge.

However, the time it took to receive the photos, and after the long wait, only receiving around 450 (engagement and wedding), I would encourage any couples considering using Snaptacular to ask about the number of photos they expect, and to note the turn-around time they list in their contract. Additionally, I felt that their responsiveness dropped off after the wedding, as it was more difficult to reach them after the wedding took place.

If these are sticking points, I'm sure JD and Jessica would be glad to discuss them with you and work on something that suits you, but not knowing the status of our photos for several months following the wedding, particularly after any previous issues with a memory card, left me very nervous and unsettled as I waited to receive them.

As is common with most weddings these days, the industry standard comes from when one bride compares to others in terms of number of photos and turnaround rates. Several photography companies have photos online shortly after the wedding, and with a photo-booth, have several hundred to choose from, just in photo booth photos alone. We received less than 50 from our photo booth, I believe it was closer to 30, and actually asked about more photos, but they told us they didn't give us repeats or photos they didn't think were suitable / represented their skill level (I apologize, I can't recall the term they used). I was disappointed that the one photo I took alone with my Maid of Honor, my sister, somehow didn't get to me, despite being taken at the photo booth.

Again, if you are looking for a nice, talented couple, this is a great one to work with, but I wish that I left the experience knowing that the beautiful photos on their website would have arrived sooner, and in higher numbers.

We really enjoyed working with Jessica and JD at Snaptacular Photography. They made the experience very relaxed and enjoyable and are very passionate about what they do. We are looking forward to future photo shoots in during our marriage when we start to grow our family!
