This is a tough review because of how the category descriptions are worded... But in a nutshell, Soul Vaccination was absolutely amazing! Everyone was raving about the band after the wedding. No issues there. The band leader(?) who you would communicate with - Dave Mills - is great to work with. Super friendly, easy to work with, incredibly responsive, etc. There aren't any knocks for this band, but a few words of caution, so here goes:
-- They are not a "wedding band". They are a 12 piece funk/soul band who regularly plays around Vancouver, and they play in Portland at Jimmy Mak's quite frequently too. You should check them out there. Dave is very upfront that they aren't a "wedding band", so you can't be surprised when they won't play certain requests. Dave doesn't take many requests in general - he'll tell you that they are the type of band that will keep your guests dancing all night, and he's right. I gave them 4.5 stars for Flexibility because you pretty much get what they play, with maybe a few tweaks or emphasis on some sounds (it is all absolutely amazing, by the way, and you won't be disappointed), but in terms of their flexibility at the venue and working with our schedules and making last minute adjustments, they are absolutely flexible - worthy of 5 stars for sure. I had to knock something off just so any readers of this realize they won't be playing your set list, they'll be playing theirs (again, very worth it).
-- I don't know how to rate the 'Value for Cost' category because this one, out of all the reviews, is going to be soooo subjective. Look, these guys weren't exactly cheap. 12 piece band, remember? We realized this and basically started saving up for them over 12 months before the wedding. Music was one of those things we really wanted to knock out of the park on our day, and without a doubt, Soul Vaccination came through. How do you go wrong with a full-on horn section?! You don't. This band isn't for everyone. Again, they were out of our budget for sure, but once we heard them a few times live, we knew we had to make it work. So we scrimped and pinched and dug in the couch cushions for over a year and made it happen. Very worth it for us. Will it be worth it for you? If you can afford it, and you don't want a "traditional" wedding band, then they might be for you. If you want "The Electric Slide" and "YMCA" and "The Hokie Pokie", don't waste your time calling Dave... I really suggest checking them out at Jimmy Mak's and talking to Dave in person...

In my opinion, for our day, everything was perfect and these guys are truly worth 5 stars all around, but I knocked a few here and there just to get your attention to point out a few things. Man, I can't believe you read all of this!!!
