While St. Andrew's Catholic Church is the most gorgeous Catholic church in Old Town Pasadena, unfortunately the spirit of the women in the church office don't match the beauty of the church. They were rude, disrespectful, and quarrelsome with us. For example, we met the woman (I am not using names so that it's not too slanderous!) who was to decide if we were to get married in the church or not. She interviewed us, agreed that since I was not catholic obviously we would not have a full mass for our wedding, and things seemed to be set. The problems arose when I began to go to classes to begin the process of becoming Catholic. I was doing this as a wedding present as a surprise for my fiance. When I told the lady at St Andrew's she threw a fit, calling me troublesome and secretive and suggested that we look for another church to get married in. Once my fiance calmed her down (I was forced to ruin my wedding surprise for him and tell him about the classes, how else could I have explained that we wouldn't be able to get married at St Andrew's?) and told the woman in the office that he was very happy that I was becoming Catholic and he was supportive of me, well, then she tried to force me to become Catholic before the wedding so that we could do a full mass!! We had already discussed with his mother and decided as a family not to have a full mass as it would exclude so many of our guests, and we had discussed this with the priest where we attend mass regularly, but the women in the office wouldn't hear of it! Unfortunately it boiled down to the fact that I was confirmed into the Catholic church before our wedding, but we hid it from the women in the office so we wouldn't have to deal with them forcing a full mass down our throats. Obviously, if more of our guests had been Catholic we would have loved to have a full mass, but according to our priest the Church does not recommend having a full mass if it excludes so many.

Other nightmares with the women in the office included such things as them calling to tell us that our rehearsal would be canceled unless we brought in the payments for the church required organist and wedding coordinator. Well, we live 80 miles away from the church, and the receptionist insisted that we overnight the paperwork. Now, we'd already paid $2000 to the church for use of the facilities, you'd think we'd be good for the $300 or so for the other two ladies! Instead we had to fed ex overnight express our checks.

The wedding coordinator that the church required we use (they rotate throughout the year) was fine on the phone and good at returning calls eventually, but the night of the rehearsal was so unprofessional that she stood in the front of the church and would YELL down the aisle for the next person to start walking up. Many of our family commented on her unprofessional behavior and on what a disorganized mess the rehearsal was. They seemed to think that as the church appointed wedding coordinator she should have been organized and known what she was doing.

As a final straw, after the wedding the deacon asked the wedding coordinator twice if he could have our witnesses since the marriage license. The wedding coordinator refused. Twice. So the wedding coordinator gave our marriage license to the church receptionist and she noted that it was missing witness signatures and so she mailed it to the county office anyway without calling us. Needless to say it was returned to us but luckily we were not fined for the exclusion.

The pictures of our wedding are gorgeous but the headaches involved with dealing with the women in the church were more than intolerable. I would advise strongly against using this church. Give your money to a church with a happy spirit that deserves to have your business.
