STAY FAR AWAY FROM STARFIRE DJ!! He was absolutely horrible and we wouldn't wish him on our worst enemy. He completely ruined our reception.
1. He was drunk.... He would send his son up to the bar to get him drinks and guests caught him drinking in his car.
2. He had NO working equipment. He would cut songs off in the middle of them and start new ones.
3. He started a fight with my brother at the bar and threatened to leave.
4. He didn't play half of our list and played awful music. He played the same song THREE times in a row. He also repeated other songs multiple times throughout the night.
5. He demanded payment at the beginning - he has probably had refusals to pay after his horrible performances

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE trust me when I say do not book this DJ. I don't care what his price is, trust me, you could do better.

I found Jim on craigslist and was pleased with the price so I decided to go with him, not looking at any reviews. Mistake.
We communicated through phone and email and he was very forgetful: losing emails, repeating questions, saying he'd send something, days go by, I ask him about it, and THEN he'd send it to me. His "contract" was sent as a Word doc vs pdf so I made changes to the parts I didn't like (like the part someone else noticed about him not being responsible for any mistakes). Because of this, leading up to the wedding, the dj was the only thing I was nervous about.
Our wedding was on a Saturday. The Wednesday before the wedding, he emails me to say that he will not be our dj but instead a woman I never spoke to that had an .edu email address (ie. a student).
The day of the wedding, the dj (the woman) was "stuck behind a tractor" and was running behind schedule so she started speeding. She called me while a police officer was writing her a ticket. Then her gps gave her the wrong zip code causing her to be late so no ceremony music. She caught me as I was getting ready to walk down the aisle and I made her wait until after the ceremony to set up (the ceremony and reception were in the same space). She was very sweet and apologetic. She was dressed in her "setting up" clothes (tank top, shorts, and tennis shoes) and had that on for about an hour after that.
During dinner she played elvis and other weird songs and occasionally the music would randomly pause and then resume playing. She did get a lot of the songs on my "must play" list and some requests, though.
Like another person said, the deal promised video of the reception but I did not see any camera at any point. And we requested a fog machine that we didn't get but we didn't pay for that yet so...
All in all, it wasn't terrible but I would not recommend. You get what you pay for.

Oh dear. First I'm the groom here, and I didn't directly interact with the DJ until a week before the wedding when I got a very distressed call from my wife crying saying that the DJ was going to cancel on us because we didn't call him the week prior to the wedding to confirm it was still on so per the contract he was going to cancel and hold the deposit.

Well, we never got a contract from him, he never sent it so we never knew we had to call the week prior. My wife emailed him and told him she couldn't find this contract anywhere and he responded and apologized saying he didn't send it and would get it right now. At this point I stepped in to deal with the final logistics.

First, he requires his balance payment in cash at the wedding, and while I gave my groomsman an envelope with directions to pay the DJ... the second after we sat down in the reception the DJ came up to me and demanded the remaining payment in cash because he had another wedding booked that he needed to get to and wanted to make sure he was paid. My groomsman handled him, it's good having good people.

Next, the music. He has a library but acts very flustered when he doesn't have internet access so I got my best man to get my cell phone so I could set up a wireless hotspot for him. He really didn't need to brag about his giant music collection when he also asks for wifi so he could get more songs.

Requests - we gave him a list of requests that we would like done. It was itemized and very simple to include our first dance song where we wanted to start with Gangnum style and then after 30 seconds transition into a slow song... yeah that didn't work and 3 minutes later I look at the DJ and say, ok we're done with this move on, luckily he did. Several of our requests didn't get played.
Apparently there is a limit on my review words, but final parting comment, don't expect him to know or suggest any standard events at a wedding, heck, don't use him, he is very cheap for a reason.

I would NEVER recommend Jim's company to anyone, especially for a wedding. We decided to use his company because it was affordable and because the reviews we read were positive. Dealing with him during the weeks leading up to the wedding was a nightmare because he forgot our wedding date and times of the ceremony several times. We constantly had to remind him of this. Also we had to download and send him several songs we wanted played during the ceremony/reception despite the very specific information we gave him on where to find them himself. The morning of the wedding we were informed that he would not be coming - instead he sent a young girl who we had no communication with previously. She did not know she was coming until the morning of our wedding and was not at all informed out specific details we had discussed with Jim. In fact, she did not even have the majority of the music we requested - only about 5 of the songs we requested were actually played at our reception, the pre-ceremony music was all wrong and during the ceremony they did not have any recessional music for us! Also the sound was all off and our ceremony music could barely be heard. She was very awkward in announcing the bridal party into the reception area and in making announcements for when food would be served, cake cut, special dances, etc. I understand she was put on the spot by Jim, but I would expect someone working for a DJ company to be able to do these things as that is one of the primary functions of their job. Also, we were promised a video recorder to capture the dancing at the wedding, but the girl did not have tapes for the camera, so we did not get that either. We were charged a surprise $50 for the mic we requested for the toasts even though the fee was not mentioned in the contract or in any of our discussions with Jim prior to the wedding. I had planned to request a refund, but the contract states they are "not responsible for mistakes" that happen... Do not use this company!

This DJ seemed PERFECT…until his true colors began to show.
I contacted him today & he confirmed everything on his craigslist listing was correct. He told me about more options he could provide (i.e. ceremony video and wireless mics) I asked him for his website and he said www.freeweb.com/starfireDJ
When I tried to visit the website it didn’t come up so I googled the company name. The ONLY websites that popped up were VERY NEGATIVE reviews! Of course as a consumer I read them hoping for more positive than negative because of his amazing price and package deals…but I found the exact opposite.
As a courtesy I emailed the links to the reviews to him immediately asking if he was aware of the negative reviews (hoping to get reasons for most of the negativity).
He responded with a VERY RUDE, 11 paragraph email!!! He also attached 31 positive reviews to back up his argument. Before I finished reading the email I was happy to see that he had legitimate reasons for each negative complaint and decided that I should give him a try…BUT this was his last sentence…..
“Also, since we talked, I've received an inquiry about a wedding on August 24th, so I will be doing someone's wedding that day. I guess not everyone believes what's on the internet, especially if it's negative. “
RUDE!!!! I highly doubt someone called him for my exact same date within 2 hours of my call. Referrals are great but that’s the power of the “internet”. People can “try before they buy” through the opinions of previous consumers!
Book at your own risk!

My mother and I met with Jim, he's was personable, great we hired him. He had no personality, he mumbled into the mike. We were to do our first dance after we made our entrance, there was so much time that went by that we were just standing there. Awkward. Announced the mother/son dance with no music playing -- husband told him just play something. DOC asked him to come in earlier to set up for ceremony since it was in 2 different spots, he would but it would an extra $50 and he needed to be paid up front. I could on and on.... very disappointing.

Okay so I'm guilty. I read the reviews and went ahead anyway. He assured me these were rare cases and that he had 40+ years of experience. He seemed nice and professional both through email and over the phone. I figured for every complaint against him, he must have several successful events that weren't posted.

I actually hired him for an event I was throwing and not for a wedding, but that makes what I have to say very important. DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN! He will ruin your special day.

Set-up was supposed to begin at 3 with show starting at 8. After telling me he would get into the venue and check out the equipment before the show, he didn't. He didn't show up until 7. Guests were already arriving and it was a rush for him to get ready in time.

I provided the playlists for before, during intermission and after the event on a flash drive and numbered the tracks to make it brainless. He somehow kept repeating the same songs making us about an hour late starting our event as I waited for my performance song to queue.

The other performers brought music as well, and he failed to load them before they hit the stage so many had to wait for him to download to his computer...or for him to find them. The burlesque troupe performing even brought detailed instructions with tracks numbered as well. He got one of the 8 performances right.

Despite my request for a low-key event with a simple spotlight, he brought several layers of lighting and even set up giant poles in front of the stage blocking the view of some of the performers.

Despite the cocktail attired event, he showed up in see-through white dress shirt, shorts and black tennis shoes.

He also asked for the money as soon as he got there. Now I know why. He fled as soon as the event was over or I would have requested a refund.

Again, DO NOT HIRE THIS MAN. You want your day to be a special one. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Absolutely the most unprofessional Dj I have ever meet in my life! Not only did not he stop responding to my wedding planner days before my wedding. He was unprepared the day of. Almost every song requested was not played. The songs he was able to play only lasted a minute then he would cut them off and start another song. He was supposed to play only clean and appropriate (non cursing) verison of songs and when confronted about an inappropriate song that was being played he lashed out with RACIST and vulgar language about my family & friends attending my wedding! I ended up having to have him escorted out of the building right in the middle of my wedding reception.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DJ TO ANYONE!

Showed up 50 minutes late to a 1 hour rehearsal. Then told us he had to walk back across the park to get his equipment for our music. By the time he came back I had let the wedding party go home as it was about to rain and my venue was outside. They (wedding party) never got to hear the ceremony music until the moment they walked down the aisle!

On wedding day he had our ceremony music !!!!!!BLASTING!!!!! and he was told to turn it down but refused. There was a noise ordinance in the park we were at and he was told that we could get fined if the ceremony music was loud enough for other patrons to hear. ---He STILL wouldn't turn it down.

We paid extra for 2 sound systems to be set up (one at the ceremony site and one at the reception area) he only had one up at the ceremony site. When it came time for the reception he had to lug all of his equipment back to the reception area. By the time he got there we were half way done!

We had him do a mix for our fun dance and he didn't correct a couple of glitches I had pointed out in an email. When it came time to do our dance the mess ups were still in there and it ruined our dance,

He refused to listen to my wedding planner. I would send word through her that it was time to do this or that and he would just do his own thing. We paid for fog machines during the reception and he didn't bring them.

He works several jobs and seems very scatter-brained. I would recommend anyone to get a FULL TIME DJ. Not one that is doing this and 3 other jobs literally! I DO NOT RECOMMEND !!!!!!
