Sugarbakers is an excellent bakery near Laurel, Mississippi.

I was skeptical about having a cake at my wedding at all. I don't really like cake, so I didn't feel like spending hundreds of dollars on a cake was worth it. However, my mom insisted, so I started searching for a bakery that could make my cake exactly how I want.

I went to a friend's wedding, tried her cake, and fell in love. She gave me her bakery's number and this is how I found Sugarbakers.

The reason I only give 4 1/2 stars for Flexibility is simply because they are ALWAYS booked up. I booked them in August of 2005. My wedding was in June of 2006. Within the week, they already had requests for my date.

They do not do more than one wedding per weekend, that way they can focus on your wedding cake without any difficulties or distractions.

They can make ANYTHING from the tradition wedding cake to the Mad Hatter cake. They are probably the most talented bakers in this area.

My cake was a 4 tier square cake that I designed and gave them the design. They were excited about my design and had no problem doing something new. They deliver for about $50, and their location is about an hour from where I got married, so that's not bad AT ALL.

My cake, like I said, was 4 tiered and square. I had between 175-200 people attend my reception and I had a ton of cake leftover, so these tiers were not small by ANY measuring stick.

My cake had a lot of detail. It was white cake with white buttercream icing (brides who like the smooth look of fondant, trust that Sugarbakers can make the buttercream look almost as smooth and without the NASTY taste of fondant!!). Each tier had a different design on it (swirls, polka dots, curly q's, etc) in alternation pink and green icing. The top tier had a fondant circle surrounding by colorful polka dots with our mongram initals in the center of the fondant.

My cake was....sit down for this...only $460!!

My husband's grooms cake (popular in the south) was a 16" round chocolate cake with chocolate basketweave icing, chocolate shavings, and strawberries dipped in chococlate on top. It was about 4-5 inches tall. It also had our monogram initials in the center. It was $75

We also ordered sugar cookies in the shape of our initials (S, K, and I), and pink and green cupcakes made. In all, we spent about $600 at Sugarbakers, but what we got in return was worth MUCH much more.

If you're in this area and in search of a bakery....Sugarbakers is the place to go!
