Our wedding and other special occasion cakes are made fresh, never frozen. Our world class pastry chefs and sugar artists make cakes that are as delicious as they are beautiful. We never use hydrogenated oils or high frustose corn syrup, and choose local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Your guests will tell you its the best cake they've ever had. With incredible flavors like Banana Nutella, Wimbledon, and Casey's Cake, rich with passion fruit and fresh raspberries, you've never had cake like this before.
All that quality gets noticed!! Sugarland has been recognized by Southern Living, Our State Magazine, and Good Morning America. We've been featured on T.V's Food Network, and Carolina's Today Show, and even MTV's Made. The News and Observer rated our cupcakes the best in the Triangle, and we have been named "The Best" by The Independent Weekly and Metro Bravo for years. Read less

1st STRIKE: Nov ‘15, I made 3 phone calls that went straight to voice mail. I left a message each time. It’s the middle of ‘16 & I still haven’t received any call back. I get it - you were on the Food Network once. I’ve been on national TV too. No one cares. You’re not that busy. Pick up the phone.
2nd STRIKE: In April ‘16, someone picked up when I called. I was not paired up with any baker, instead a nice young girl who was not a baker. The girl, while sweet, was not able to tell me any of Sugarland’s policies. I had to inquire about EVERYTHING: cake stands (free/fee/threshold price), traveling costs to/from, pricing of different flavors, threshold pricing for free anniversary cake, the list goes on & on & on. She was a nice young girl but employee training is lacking. I’m not going to drop $600+ if I don’t know all the hidden fees that you keep not telling me (purposefully or unintentionally?).
LAST STRIKE: I wanted a “naked cake” for my wedding. It’s as simple as a cake design can get. So, while seeing all the marvelous creations they had displayed in their store, I naturally told the young employee my choice. The young girl said, & I’m quoting exactly, “THE BAKERS AT SUGARLAND DON’T BELIEVE IN NAKED CAKES, SO UNFORTUNATELY WE CAN’T MAKE ONE FOR YOUR WEDDING.” This bakery literally has a “LOVE” rainbow cake in their window. This world is so messed up. Just make cakes - that’s your chosen job. It’s not like I asked you to make something patently offensive cake - I asked for a naked cake which is all the rage on Pinterest et al.
I never did meet with any baker. I got an email from someone I’d never met at Sugarland saying they enjoyed my and my fiancé’s visit & hoped to get my business. Punchline: my fiance wasn’t there. My sister came with me. So thanks for making it clear that I’m not a valued customer. My business gladly went to SWEET MEMORIES - their cakes are bar none the best tasting cakes on the planet and the customer service is equally as fantastic.

We were hunting for a gluten-free cake, and Sugarland in Raleigh had a great reputation among our friends. They arranged for a private gluten-free cake tasting with vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and all of their fillings and icings, and that might have been my favorite part of wedding planning! I made a cake tower to try it all together. :-D

Surprisingly, my husband and I were able to agree on a flavor easily (he usually doesn't like gluten-free cake, but he was in love with the chocolate!), and the coordinator we worked with helped us choose a simple, rustic style for our private ceremony. I know the cake was delicious because my husband ate almost all the leftovers, and he doesn't even usually like cake!! We also appreciate that the cake was delivered on time to the bridal suite at The Umstead for us without us having to chase it down. And we also appreciate that they treated us just as kindly as they would have a person ordering a much larger cake (we ordered the smallest they had since it was just for us and our two witnesses). I don't think it could have been any better.

We had a great experience utilizing Sugarland Chapel Hill for our wedding cake buffet. They were very responsive via email and answered all our questions. Most importantly the cake was both beautiful and delicious. Would recommend for any cake needs!

We loved Sugarland when we were in college, so that was the only cake vendor we even considered. Josh helped us with our tasting, and our cake tasted great and was just beautiful. Worth every penny.

Where do I start. Well, I originally called Sugarland in Raleigh on 5/14. I was told that someone would get back with me but, that I might also want to send an email through their website for the cake coordinator. I received an email on 5/18 stating that they only offered cake tasting twice a month. The next one would be on 6/19, which is Father's day. I immediately called the bakery to verify that she did intend to say that Father's day was the next available tasting. After some discussion and prodding, the young lady indicated that they did offer private appointments. So, I asked to set up a private cake tasting. No problem, but the next available date would be during the first week of June. A gain, no problem. Well, exactly one week later on 5/25, I received a email asking me if our appointment was for 5/26 or was it 6/2? I politely called the bakery to speak with the young lady and she was again gone for the day. And, I was told to email her. So, after a couple more emails, it was decided to leave the date for June. Well, was I in for an experience. We were running late and had to call the bakery to let them know that we would be about 5 mins late. To our surprise, we were not the only ones running late. We waited about 10 more minutes to be told to fill out some paperwork and the coordinator would be right with us. Anyway, the young lady finally came out and introduced herself. She put a tray of cupcakes down on the table and rattled off what each of them were. She then, stated that she would give us a few minutes to taste them and then would be back to talk to us. Not only was that the last time that we saw her but, the cupcakes were not good. They very hard and dry as though they'd been refrigerated for a few days. And, a few of them left an aftertaste in your mouth. We tasted a few of the cupcakes and waited for her to come back. After 15 minutes of no customer service, we left. Needless to say, we booked another vendor.

For the most part the planning process with Sugarland was great. We originally wanted to do just a small cake to cut, and then an assortment of pie for our guests. I thought there would be a wedding package or something for a dessert scheme like this, but the pies were priced individually and ended up being more than a traditional wedding cake would be. So we decided to go with just a three tier cake, and they kindly agreed to create a "naked" cake for us, which they don't normally do. It turned out beautiful and delicious!

The lower rating for quality of service was due to events that unfolded the day of the wedding. Our cake was supposed to be delivered 2 hours before our ceremony started, which should have been by 2pm. The 2 hour window would allow my coordinator to decorate the cake so it would be ready to go once the cocktail hour started. Our cake wasn't delivered until 3:55, 5 minutes before our ceremony was supposed to start!! Because of this our ceremony was delayed because my coordinator was also overseeing the ceremony, as well as attending because she's also a personal friend. Even though our coordinator has emails confirming a 2pm delivery time, the delivery driver had on his sheet a delivery window of 3pm-4pm.

So Sugarland makes a beautiful, delicious cake, but if you're having it delivered I would call to confirm the delivery time the day of the wedding.

Our cake was AMAZING! Our friends had had sugarland do their wedding cake so we knew that we were getting some quality cake, I even used one of their flavors I liked it so much! At our wedding it was just as good! We did the mimosa flavor and the creme brulee flavor, both were EXCELLENT. The cake stand that they delivered on the day was not the one we had discussed but it was actually better than the one we discussed so it was fine by me! They were on time, professional, the cake looked great and tasted better. The place is pricey but worth it! You will not be disappointed!

My wedding isn't until April 16, 2016, however so far the folks at Sugarland have been awesome. Very responsive to emails, was willing to accommodate my design, and at my tasting they were friendly with very good tasting cake. I will be serving the vanilla bean flavor and strawberry flavor. They were delicious at the tasting. I look forward to seeing (and eating) the finished product on my special day!
