This place is amazing! My husband and I were married there at the beginning of April and could not have dreamed of a better venue. The entire staff was extremely helpful and responsive to all of our questions leading up to the big day and everything the day of ran like a well oiled machine. They definitely know what they're doing and have it down to an art.

We used their in-house catering (Great Blue Heron Catering) and every guest that we talked to said it was the best food that they've ever had at a wedding. The head chef was wonderful and was personally bringing the bridal party ordourves and drinks while we were getting ready in the Lilac room. We also used the other vendors that they recommended for the guests hotel and the cake and were soooo happy with those as well.

The day of the wedding the atrium provided an event "captain" whose name I believe was Christian. He was amazing as well and completely catered to every single need or question we had...which included keeping our glasses filled with champaign the entire night! Not only Christian but the entire staff was great, worked very quickly, and were extremely polite.

My husband grew up visiting Meadowlark and was pretty set on having the wedding there so we didn't get many quotes from other venues. Because of that reason, I'm not really able to comment on the prices at this venue but I can say, that with a guest count of 160, we thought the cost was very reasonable for all the wonderful services that they provided.

I could go on and on about how wonderful this venue and staff were but there's probably not enough room so I'll just end by saying this venue and all the staff is wonderful and we would not have changed a single thing about the night.

The staff, both on the venue side and the catering side, were extremely helpful and responsive. They answered our questions as they came up, and they were always ready to provide suggestions when we weren't sure about something. My husband is a chef, and he was specifically impressed that the catering chef was out at the buffet making sure everything was presented appropriately on the day of our wedding.

We were SO glad we chose Meadowlark as our venue. The staff was responsive, the food was delicious, and the space was absolutely beautiful. They have discounts on off-season months (for us, February) which is how we were able to afford such a nice place, and we couldn't have been happier that it worked out.

We just had our wedding at this venue and what an incredible place. The venue had amazing workers there that helped us out through the entire process and once we got to the venue for the reception, the venue Captain and staff were so helpful. We heard great things from our guest who were there and we couldn't be happier with the choice we made for our wedding reception.

The Atrium at Meadowlark is a stunning location to hold a wedding ceremony and/or reception and my fiance and I fell in love with the place at first sight. However, what makes or breaks a location isn't just how it looks, it is your experience with the staff, especially during wedding planning which can be very stressful. Every experience we had with the staff at the Atrium was wonderful. They are responsive, professional, knowledgeable, and nice to work with. As a bride in the midst of juggling work and wedding planning, they made my life easier. And then, it got even better. The day of our wedding went so smoothly. They are so prepared and organized. The staff is lovely and attentive. My guests were amazed. We could not have chosen a better venue. Also, for future brides: our wedding was held in late November. If you are concerned with having a winter wedding at a botanical garden, don't be. It was beautiful and the indoor temperature was perfect. I was concerned with using one room for the ceremony and reception, but it went off without a hitch. Starting in mid-November, the Atrium is decorated with holiday lights and flowers which added a romantic and festive feeling to my wedding. Also, outdoors there is a winter light show on the grounds that your guests will love.

I did not rent the atrium but had my ceremony on the lake gazebo. What a beautiful place to get the wedding photos every girl dreams of. From the beautiful trees and plants to the rolling hills. It was great and the cost was affordable if you are planning a small event. The only issue is although you reserve the gazebo for exclusive use, they do not offer a way to keep others visiting the garden from entering the gazebo. We had to constantly ask people to leave because we had it reserved for a wedding. Most people were gracious. You have to expect that in a public place. I would recommend the gazebos to everyone. Although, I had beautiful weather, have a back up plan in case mother nature interferes.

The Atrium was the reception site for our daughter's wedding July 27, 2013. I cannot give enough praise to Liz and her team for the awesome job they did to make our reception a wonderful success. The appetizers and dinner were caterered by the in house caterer, Great Blue Heron. The food was plentiful, and incredibly tasty! We have had many compliments on the expecptional meal. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Atrium to anyone, they were the best!!

Our daughter got married on January 5, 2013. Because it was a winter wedding, we were afraid that weather would be a factor. It was a beautiful, crisp day and the Atrium was beautifully decorated with white poinsettias and silver accents. Because the venue has a lights tour open to the public on the grounds, we were treated with a beautiful background for our inside reception. From start to finish Renee and Liz attended to every detail with prompt, courteous responses and wonderful suggestions. Bryan, the executive caterer, provided our guests with outstanding appetizers as well as delicious, tender steak and moist, stuffed chicken. We had a significant glitch that evening as the pastor became ill and was not able to perform the ceremony. Bianca did an outstanding job of coordinating another officiant as well as providing a calm demeanor in organizing an alternate time line. We were very pleased with the value and beauty of this venue and can highly recommend it for your wedding and reception.

Our daughter's wedding on 10/12/2012 was all that she (and we) had hoped for at The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. The entire process, from initial visit through wedding ceremony & reception was 100% perfect. The entire staff was exceptional in their professionalism and execution -- care and concern that all was right was in the forefront of every detail. As for the chef and staff of Great Blue Heron catering (on-site caterers), there are no words to express how incredibly every part of the cocktail hour and dinner was prepared and presented -- by far, the most delicious food we have every experienced at an event of this nature! Will look forward to another event visit -- hopefully soon :)

f I had to describe the dream wedding venue it would probably have been the Atrium! It was gorgeous, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We had almost no decorations besides the floral arrangements because the venue itself was so beautiful. Our wedding was fairly small, with around 100 people so the Atrium was the perfect size, and the pictures we took around the garden were stunning! Loved it!

I cannot rave enough about this venue. Not only is it stunningly beautiful, with large windows overlooking the gardens, pre-lit indoor trees, and even a babbling brook (!), but the staff is top-notch. Renee and Wayne were fabulous throughout the planning process (as was Liz of Great Blue Heron Catering, the in-house caterer) and always prompt in responding to email inquiries. They walked us through all the details [regarding our daughter’s wedding] at our final meeting a month prior to the event and were extremely accommodating in all ways…from placement of favors and votive candles, to helping us establish our timeline and discussing table and dance-floor placements.

Our guests are still raving about the food (a great value)—from inventive and delicious appetizers to wonderful entrée options, garnished with perfectly-cooked vegetables and edible orchids. The head chef, Bryan, even thoughtfully arranged for a platter of fruits and cheeses to be available in the Lilac room for the bridal party prior to the event and then followed up with individually plated appetizers for the couple, so they would not miss this aspect of their meal! And he graciously acknowledged the newly-wedded couple in person during the evening, to offer his personal congratulations.

Bianca and the wait-staff the night of our event deserve special mention, too. Our daughter and her fiancé planned for the ceremony to be held on the terrace, which was elegantly arranged, complete with the facility’s own arbor. When the weather became threatening, the staff did not rush us in making the [ultimate] decision to move indoors…even setting up for the contingency, while leaving the outdoor option available until five minutes before the start of the ceremony. At that point, the staff miraculously dismantled the outdoor setting in short order, so that photos would not be impacted! Happily, we were able to enjoy cocktails on the terrace immediately following the ceremony, but the indoor service was just lovely and should not be viewed as a disappointing fallback for future brides and grooms. During dinner and thereafter, the staff remained unfailingly attentive and anticipated the needs of our guests in ways which continue to filter out a week later, as we speak with those who attended.

Thank you, Atrium, for making our first effort at throwing a wedding/reception such a great experience! Your attention to detail was noted in many ways and most probably overlooked in others, as the process flowed so effortlessly. As far as we’re concerned, there is no need for a wedding coordinator with these folks on your side!

We looked at so many venues for our wedding and absolutely fell in LOVE with the Atrium as soon as we walked in! It was an absolutely gorgeous setting for our summer wedding and our guests are still talking about what a great time they had! Renee and Liz were great to work with and always were available to answer our many questions and kept us calm throughout the whole process. The day of the wedding went perfectly and I didn't have to worry about a thing. We used the in-house caterer Blue Heron and the food was delicious and priced very reasonably. I highly recommend this venue!!

Meadowlark Botanical Gardens was a wonderful site to hold a wedding. The Atrium staff was a pleasure to work with, professional, friendly and flexible from the date of booking through the event itself. Though the temperature outside topped 100 degrees, the Atrium stayed properly cool throughout the evening. Wayne and Renee answered all our questions, and had great ideas on how to use the space effectively for our 150 guests; the space did not feel crowded thanks to the layout they designed. Our guests marveled at the beauty of the garden setting both inside and outside of the Atrium. Not much was needed in the way of additional decor, though we did drape the mural and up light the pillars. Many thanks to the wonderful Atrium staff for all of their gracious help!

We had our wedding at Meadowlark and they did a great job with everything. The setting is beautiful. We used their preferred caterer and the food and service was wonderful. The staff was very responsive by e-mail and did a great job making last minute adjustments. We had a great time at our wedding. The catering staff even brought my husband and I trays of appetizers back to where we were waiting to be announced to make sure that we got to have some. That was a nice touch. It is no secret why this venue books up so far in advance.

This was the most beautiful site for a wedding. One of the reasons we chose this place (aside from it's spectacular views and lush, gorgeous atrium) was the option to have the ceremony outside on the patio. If it happens to rain (which in my case it did), then no worries, everything is easily moved inside and you don't have to worry about a thing! We just received our photos (which we were able to take outside) and they're breathtaking! P.S. - their on-site chef created an amazing meal that everyone is still talking about!

We did not rent the atrium, we only rented the gazebo over the lake. Due to the short notice of the event, they did not have the available date and the price point was beyond our budget, but we really wanted to get married in the gazebo on the lake, and we did :-)

It was absolutely beautiful! We were able to rent just the space, the pictures are amazing, there was a butterfly that danced around us for the ceremony... it couldn't have been more perfect!! (and the best part was that by just renting the space, it was very affordable!!)

We had our wedding reception and ceremony at Meadowlark on August 13th. We would highly recommend this venue to everyone. The location is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. We are very pleased with the friendliness, flexibility, and helpfulness of all the staff at Meadowlark. Although the rental cost is a little higher than many other venues, it absolutely worth it for your big day. We used in house catered Blue Heron, which worked out perfectly, as we received many compliments on the food from the guests. Not sure why one would get outside catering as they cook right there and the food is fresh and warm. Outside catering would require logistical planning and likely, reheating of food which everyone knows never is as good. Dennis, Liz, and Alyssa were very helpful and responsive. They went out their way to help us with custom requests. It was also a great pleasure to work with Wayne who is the event manager. He was very flexible with our final guest count even though the wedding website lists 190 for their maximum capacity, we could fit up up 224 guests. Overall, we were extremely happy with the overall experience. They offered great advice during the final walk through and the entire process before the wedding. All the staff provided fantastic service on the day of the event. They completed every single detail of the wedding tasks that we had discussed. We had numerous comments that this was the best wedding that they have attended!
It was an incredible experience working with Meadowlark staffs and Blue Heron cater. We couldn't have asked for more. We were so glad we picked this venue and their in house cater. We sincerely appreciate the perfect wonderful wedding they made for us. Highly recommended.

You couldnt' find a better place to hold a wedding reception.

You don't need to decorate, except for centerpieces on tables.

You nearly have a wedding planner, with the help and support you are offered. They know how to handle details and they help you along the way, when this is all new.

Don't get discouraged if you have trouble contacting them initially. You have to go in person to the site. They are so busy with supporting brides at this amazing place. We used their catering service and everyone was happy with the food. The price for everything was great. I felt everyone loved to be able to come to this beautiful place.

I couldn't have asked for more.

Wonderful wedding and reception. Don't cater through Blue Heron though, its incredibly expensive. Also, you cannot bring in outside booze. We had to pay for a bartender to serve beer and wine. The staff was quick and incognito with transitions, and were very helpful in the weeks leading up to our wedding. The Atrium smells fresh like flowers, is practically made of glass windows, and when it starts to get dark, they have lights on the trees that add an awesome ambiance. I highly recommend! =)

Amazing reception venue and location. The gardens are gorgeous and the inside of the Atrium truly makes you feel like you are outside while being protected by all of the elements. Also, everyone who works there is the best. So friendly and efficient and willing to do anything for you. My wedding at the Atrium couldn't have been more perfect. Everyone was so helpful leading up to the wedding day as well as on the wedding day. I didn't even have a wedding coordinator as the staff help direct my guests, and keep the flow going. We had our reception at night. Being inside surrounded by flowers and trees at night with candles along the walls was so romantic. I cant thank Scott, Dennis, Renee and the staff enough for making my wedding day so special.
All of the bridesmaids got ready in the Lilly room before the wedding and our caterers brought in appetizers and my signature drink just for us girls. Way to make us feel special! :) I had my catering done through Blue Heron (we had a buffet), and everyone raved about the food. I highly, highly recommend this venue.

The Meadowlark gardens is a superb place for a wedding ceremony and/or reception if you enjoy a beautiful garden setting. They have many beautiful outdoor areas as well has a full service large (200 ppl) glass atrium that is temperature controlled. It is a nice mix of indoor comfort with many outdoor options a few steps away.

I highly recommend making a quick visit to the park. The pictures don't do it justice. Tell them you are considering using their wedding venue and they will let you in for free. In addition to the Atrium with a outdoor terrace, there are severl gazibos including one over a lake. The whole area is delicately maintained and picture perfect.

We had our ceremony on their Atrium terrace with the reception tables setup inside the glass Atrium. During cocktail, the photographer took us outside for some amazing garden shots.

They rent the entire Attrium with outdoor access for 6-8 hour blocks and ensures that no other couples will be in the park at the same time. The Atrium also has a prep kitchen, restrooms, and changing room. Friday, Saturda, Sunday rates are pretty insane, ranging from $4K to $6K. Rates on other days are far more affordable, starting around $2K for 6 hours. One of the small garden gazebos can also be rented for a few hundred if you are ok doing the whole wedding outdoors. They don't provide any staff, just an event corrodinator. The caterer you choose must be licensed and insured.

I highly recommend the Meadowlark location if you like outdoor settings. The Atrium is very good for indoor comfort, and all the glass and indoor gardens makes you like you are outdoors as well. It is also helpful that they give you generous time alotments where as many places charge for each hour. A full ceremony + reception + dancing will take at least 8 hours. Book early as they are very popular.

I went back and forth on my decision to book the Atrium for my wedding reception, mostly because of the expense, however, I finally decided that it was worth it to me. The venue sets the scene for everything else and has the biggest visual impact of everything on your wedding to-do list! People will remember the general ambiance of your event more than they will remember your table linens or centerpiece flowers. The Atrium is an incredibly beautiful venue that needed little-to-no decorating and wildly exceeded my expectations on the big day. It's one thing to drop by and take a tour of the venue at noon on a random weekday. It's a completely different space on a Saturday evening when it's glowing with candles and filled with excitement. I remember looking around at the reception and thinking, "this is perfect." It was such an unbelievably beautiful event, and the venue (and diligent staff!) had absolutely everything to do with it. Logistically speaking- we had 165 guests and it felt full but not crowded. I worried that the dance floor would be way too small, but somehow it worked (and we had a LOT of people dancing). I would recommend maximizing the outdoor space if you can. We set up a photobooth and cornhole off to the right side and it was a nice way to create some flow and give guests something to do besides dance or sit. You will not regret working with the Atrium and their extremely helpful staff who will bend over backwards to accommodate your vision!

I chose this venue because a friend of mine held her ceremony and reception at these beautiful gardens. Although the price for the venue alone (even for a Friday) is a bit steep, I think it was worth it for the final result. I found the staff that I dealt with to be prompt in their responsiveness to my questions and very accommodating to my many changes to linen, payment methods, last-minute guest changes etc. I worked a lot with Liz of Great Blue Heron catering and she was always available to help.

On the day of the wedding, Bianca, the day-of coordinator made sure things were running smoothly because we ran nearly 45 minutes behind. I was early but some of the crucial guests like my brother who was walking me down the aisle were late! Bianca also brought us some of the appetizers to snack on while we were doing photos. All the guests raved about the food which was all quite amazing. My husband had the miso sea bass and I had the asparagus chicken. I wish I had asked the chef to make the steaks medium instead of medium well. Even then, the steaks were quite good from what I tasted. Thank you very much Atrium and GBH staff (all the servers and bartenders included) for making our day memorable and fun!

Meadowlark Atrium was the perfect wedding venue for our spring wedding! The staff are professional, responsive, and made everything absolutely perfect for our big day.

Wayne and Renee in the Atrium office are professional and responsive, and they have years of combined experience in event planning that was evident in the way that they helped us coordinate our event.

The big star here though is catering manager Scott Boger! He was on top of every detail from the very beginning. He helped coordinate the flowers, the linen rentals etc and made the setup absolutely exquisite! Scott functions like a "day of" coordinator and was prepared to run the show from start to finish on the big day.

Many of our guests commented on how great the whole staff was (Scott especially), responsive to every need and anticipating what anyone might want throughout the evening. Without being intrusive, the staff was always ready to refill a drink, plate a meal for our elderly guests who weren't up to going through the buffet, make the other vendors comfortable, anything at all.

And the venue... if you haven't been there, you must see it in person. The photos on the web do not do it justice. In any season the gardens are gorgeous and the Atrium affords the perfect outdoor feel in an indoor venue. So much more interesting than a ballroom at a hotel!

For a smaller group (less than 150 or so)- the terrace is perfect for an intimate ceremony. Because the horticulturalists at the garden and the Atrium are working year round to keep everything seasonal, blooming, and beautiful, it takes very little additional decoration to make it perfect for your wedding.

The venue is a little more expensive than many (with a discount for NOVA residents)-- but if you use the in-house caterer (Scott Boger and Great Blue Heron) the cost of tables, chairs, place settings, and staff are all included! And the catering rates are exceptionally reasonable for excellent food (see separate review). So this venue is absolutely worth every penny!!

Our photos look magnificent with the backdrop of the garden, and the Atrium is simply magical. Almost every single guest commented on how amazing the location was! We had the most amazing time working with the professionals at the Atrium at Meadowlark. The Atrium is absolutely gorgeous! We didn't want a run-of-the-mill wedding hall and checked out many venues before picking one. After seeing over a dozen, the Atrium ended our search! None of our guests had been there before- including some who lived in the neighborhood!- and we received rave reviews from everyone! The ambiance, lighting, set up, and just unique space made for the most spectacular and memorable event!
The chef, Brian, from Great Blue Heron, went above and beyond to make our food special, to our taste, accommodate special menu items and dietary restrictions for the bride and groom and our guests.
Liz and Renee worked so hard to make sure our day was planned perfectly, and helped us with every detail. When it came time for our wedding, we were not nervous at all because we knew we were in great hands. Christian and the event staff ran the night seamlessly and almost invisibly. Their hard work and attentiveness seemed effortless and the staff could not have been nicer. We enjoyed the entire evening and never had to divert energy from our guests.
Even though we had a March wedding, we were still able to find some great locations on the 96 acres for photos. Make sure you preview the grounds ahead of time so you can, too!
Enjoy.

We had our ceremony and reception at The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. It was just beautiful and everyone really loved the venue. They have events there constantly so they run like a well-oiled machine which was helpful anytime I had questions about how things would run/transition. Not the least expensive place in the area for sure but you get what you pay for. You just may need to book it more than a year in advance.

SCOTT BOGER @ THE ATRIUM AT MEADOWLARK BOTANICAL GARDENS: Scott was the defining factor of our reception. I always knew I wanted to get married at Meadowlark and when we signed the contract, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. It was incredible. We had to move the date because of the blizzard of 2009 (we had booked the venue for December 19, 2009- THE day the blizzard hit), and Scott called us right away with the next available dates he had, so we could reschedule the reception, which was January 2nd, just two weeks later. Scott was incredibly accommodating, ebullient and excited and showed us first-class professionalism and service. He personally waited on us at our sweetheart table the night of the reception, gave us excellent recommendations for other vendors, and went even further the night of the reception, by personally going back out to the local ABC to restock our liquor supply, since we ran out! He was able to set up the Hall the night before the reception, our vendors were able to easily deliver and pick up their goods conveniently and everything was set up exactly as we discussed during our walk through.

The food was superior, and everyone raved about how delicious it was. The bartender supplied and made our signature cocktail, and we even had a coffee liquor bar and a smore station. It was magical and wonderfully stress free. I would recommend this vendor and venue without hesitation. They were truly accommodating and service oriented and made the night that much more special.

The Medowlark Atrium was the perfect venue for our wedding! You really get the best of both worlds for an indoor/outdoor wedding. Our guests couldn't stop raving about the Atrium and the Gardens. Wayne and Bernadette were extremely helpful, and they were flexible when I wanted to change the layout even after we had completed a walk through. A couple things to mention: we had about 134 guests attend a sit down dinner buffet and if we had any more , the room would have been tight and clutered. The Atrium has a special side room with a couch and private bathroom for the wedding party which was awesome. The Medowlark is expensive, but there is a discounted rental price for residents of Fairfax County.

Meadowlark Gardens was the perfect location for my Sunday afternoon wedding! The atrium and gardens are absolutely beautiful. Evertime I went to visit, I fell more and more in love with it. The gardens are a great location for wedding and engagement photos, too. It is a bit more pricey that some other venues, but as a Fairfax County resident, the price break made it more affordable. The coordinators were very easy to work with and very responsive. We were able to schedule a rehearsal the day before at no extra charge and were given the hours between 10am and 2pm to arrive and complete the rehearsal. Of course we were only there for about 40-minutes, but it was nice to have a generous window of time. Meadowlark provides tables and chairs, and separate chairs on the outdoor patio for the ceremony (if you choose to hold it outside.) They do not provide anything additional in terms of coordination, although they do a walk-through w/ you and your caterer. The only thing I would wish to change would be to have music on the patio during the cocktail hour...they only allow amplified music on the patio during the ceremony. Other than that, it was fantastic and my guests are still raving about what a beautiful wedding we had!

The staff at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens were very nice and helpful, not to mention very flexible. My husband and I were planning our wedding and very quickly came to the realization of how hectic and time consuming it was becoming. We were at the point of eloping. However, inside, I still wanted a beautiful wedding to remember. Meadowlark came to the rescue at the last minute and were able to get us on their schedule roughly a month and a half before the big day. The scenery is just beyond beautiful. I HIGHLY recommend this venue for anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful environment.

Wayne was very good about responding to emails and answering questions. We chose this vendor because the location is absolutely gorgeous and they provide their own equipment (chairs, tables, etc.) You do need to rent your own linens but the in-house caterer (Great Blue Heron) took care of those details for us. I gave a 4 for the quality because I provided detailed pictures of how I wanted the entry/gift tables set up and my instrutions weren't really followed, which for a type-A planner like me resulted in a little undue stress on the day of. However, I am thrilled with our overall experience at Meadowlark and recommend the Atrium to any bride. It really was a gorgeous day.

We just got married at the Atrium on 5/3 and I cannot say enough about how amazing everything was. People always tell you that there will be things that will go wrong the day of the wedding but no one, other than you, will notice it. Well...I guess we lucked out then because not one single thing went wrong that day.

If you use the in house caterer, Great Blue Heron, you get a break on the cost of the open bar, and a few other things, which was a huge plus for us...trust me when I say you should definitely use them because you will NOT be disappointed. We have had so many people ask us who catered the event because it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. Brian is the chef and he personally made us a plate of appetizers and drinks in the Lilac room right after the ceremony.

The Atrium assigns an event Captain for the evening and we were so very lucky to have had Chris. His service was nothing short of exemplary. During dinner, he made sure we had everything we needed, refreshed our drinks and checked back to make sure all was good. These people know how to run an event and they all do it with a smile on their face. They clearly take pride in what they do, as it shows in their service.

I guess you can tell we really like this place, right? Don't be deterred by the venue rental fee. It's high but the cost of catering is less than what we priced out elsewhere and quite honestly, worth every dime. Renee is in the sales office and Lauren/Liz are in catering. With this team, and their brilliant staff, you will truly be able to enjoy the day without worrying about the details...keep in mind that if the Atrium has an event booked the Friday evening before your wedding, you won't be able to have a rehearsal that night. You'll have to do it either early in the day on Friday or first thing Saturday morning, which is what we did. It all worked out just fine...

We had our ceremony on the terrace and our reception in the atrium in late September. This is a beautiful venue that provided us with so many great wedding photos throughout the gardens, during the ceremony, and inside the atrium during the reception. It just has a wonderful atmosphere, with the lush gardens, the trees and ponds in the distance, and the little wooden bridges and gazebos. Inside the atrium the natural elements are so beautiful, like the trees that are lit up with lights in the evening, the indoor stream and fountain, and the pretty flowers. It all combines to set a truly lovely and elegant mood.

We had a good experience with the staff. Scott Boger left halfway through our planning process and there was a slight delay in following up after that but overall we were pleased with the responsiveness of Wayne and Liz. We found the Atrium staff to be very professional, helpful, and flexible. We did have a bit of an issue with responsiveness of the linens contact person at Capital Party Rentals but I think she ended up leaving the company.

We are so happy we chose Meadowlark - it's a gorgeous setting for a wedding and it's located so close that it makes it easy for all your guests to attend (only 10 minutes away from a hotel in Tysons Corner) and for you to make visits during the planning stages.

Meadowlark is by far the most beautiful wedding venue in the Northern Virginia area. No other location can compete with the goregous and lush atrium complete with plants, flowers, stream, mini waterfall, and trees covered in tiny lights. But there are a few things you should know first:

-The venue is incredibly expensive to rent and can book up years in advance. However, once you see it, you will understand why.
-The staff can be difficult to reach at first, but leave a message and they will always call you back.
-Scott Boger, the rock star of catering managers, no longer works there. However Wayne and Renee did a great job taking over his job and our wedding was pretty smooth despite this change.

Another bonus is the park grounds are usually open until 7 pm, so your guests can walk around and explore during cocktail hour. Im so glad we had our wedding here and our guests could not stop raving about how beautiful the location was!

I absolutely loved my wedding venue-- the gardens are gorgeous late spring/early summer (heck, I'm sure they're lovely year round!). Thus, my photographer (Jason Weil) had so many options for pictures! My guests and wedding party had nothing but great things to say about this location. Inside the Atrium, the lights from night added such a fairy tale vibe; the lights from the trees + the curtain of light behind the dance floor looked stunning.

The catering here served up a delicious dinner, including tender chicken and possibly the best salmon I've ever eaten. Though I was a bit disappointed when I didn't receive a response to my email about putting together a meal for a guest with Celiac's, I was relieved when I talked to a staff member the day of the wedding and the chef sent out a personally assembled meal for her!

I appreciated how responsive and professional the staff were-- before the wedding, the Captain answered all of my questions and took the time to reassure me. Renee sat down with my family and I to coordinate table arrangements, color schemes, and a time table that we were then able to provide to our DJ.

Would definitely recommend this venue to other brides!! Great food, classy ambiance, attentive staff. :]

The most gorgeous venue ever: glass walls, live, lighted trees, indoor stream and fountain, incredible patio and the backdrop of 95 acres of botanical gardens. Fabulous scenery, no extra decorating necessary. Hard to believe this is part of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. It is a little pricey, just to rent the facility, but if unique is what you are going for, this is it. My only negative would be a desire for better communication and clarity as to where the venue's responsibilities end and the in-house caterer's (Great Blue Heron Catering) begin. But once you get everyone on the same page, the magic begins. Wayne, Liz and Renee are professionals, and will work with you to meet budget constraints. We used the in-house caterer GBH (not required, but I recommend them), and we were NOT sorry! People raved about the food, both quality and quantity. No one went home hungry! We opted for a buffet which was beautifully presented. They made sure that the bridal party, parents and little one's meals were plated and served first. We dropped off a LOT OF STUFF the day before and they did not blink and followed my instructions to a tee (to include setting up an awesome candy table). I did not have to worry or think about anything the entire night. SPECTACULAR!!

I rented the gazebo for my wedding ceremony only, as the Atrium was not available for my wedding day. The event manager was trying to persuade me to change my wedding date so I can rent Atrium as well, but I figured I even would probably not rent it anyway since it's too large for my 50 guests. The gazebo turned out to be a great venue for the ceremony! Meadowlark is just perfect for weddings. With Meadowlark's one bride policy, you can still have pretty much the whole Garden for your own even you only rent the gazebo not the Atrium. But if you just rent the gazebo, be prepared to have almost no attention or help from the event office. They did answer my questions by emails but the answers were kept short. Nobody showed up at the gazebo on my wedding day. The gazebo was quite a walk away from the entrance, yet the office said no signs can be put up for directions. I was really concerned that this would delay my guests, but it turned out that our ceremony started pretty much on time.

Meadowlark is one of the most beautiful venues in Northern VA. It is pretty expensive, however you get a discount for living in the area, and also if you book on an off-day (we booked on a Sunday) its really not too bad. Either way, completely worth it. Its a great place if you want to plan an outdoor wedding, but still have a beautiful plan-B inside the Atrium. The people there were very easy to work with, and Wayne and Bernadette always got back to me very quickly. Also, you have free access to the park when you sign a contract (and for a year after the wedding) and its really a beautiful park. Their capacity is more small to medium (for an outdoor wedding, there are only 99 chairs for the patio) but i think you can have close to 200 people for a reception. You can also have ceremonies at their gazebos.

Also, they book up really fast, so keep that in mind. :)

The Atrium at Meadowlark is an absolutely beautiful place for a wedding ceremony and reception. There is an outdoor patio that is perfectly situated for the ceremony and cocktails afterwards, and an indoor atrium that is used for the reception. We had a May wedding and I could not imagine a better setting in which to get married. It felt intimate and yet was easily able to accomodate our guest list. It was the perfect combination of natural and classy. The staff at the Atrium is really nice and easy to work with--you can choose your caterer from a list of approved caterers, and the rest of the vendors are up to you to find. It is expensive to rent, even with the discount for Fairfax County residents--but worth every penny! Book early if you know you want your wedding at Meadowlark--there is a line every Jan 2 when they open their books for the following year!

We fell in love with Meadowlark Botanical Gardens when we first set foot in it for our friend's wedding and we knew we wanted to have our wedding there. The gardens is a beautiful place with lakes, bridges and a gazebo to take wonderful pictures at. We also wanted to have our ceremony and reception at the same location since we had a lot of out of town guests and that worked perfectly. We had the ceremony outside on the terrace and then the reception inside in the atrium that just pours light and a beautiful ambiance. We were very lucky in that it didn't rain for our wedding as the whole week it was calling for thunderstorms.
One downside is that the employees that are on-site during the wedding do not dress up at all and walk around patrolling the terrace and confronting guests which I was a bit uneasy when I heard.

Overall, we loved the space and the gardens and we had a lot of guests comment that they didn't know this existed and that it's one of the most beautiful places they have been for a wedding.

We could not have selected a better setting for our wedding then the Atrium. It's a beautiful place, with so many wonderful places to take amazing wedding photos; we were out there for an hour! My only wish is that they would allow golf carts so we could have seen more of the gardens for the pictures and maybe gotten around a little faster! The staff was professional, friendly and helpful. They didn’t interfere at all during the wedding, I never once noticed them! The beautiful setting inside the Atrium helped add elegance and cut on the cost of flowers, since there were already in there! I known a few people who’s family members have gotten married there and every always says how beautiful it was. It is a little pricey, but most good wedding venues are. And it fills up quickly, so if you're interested you have to act fast.

Meadowlark is a phenomenal location to have a wedding. The place itself is so beautiful that you need very little in the way of decorations. The staff is very accomodating and willing to answer any and all questions. I received two recommendations from them for vendors, and went with both of them. Basically, they know their stuff, and their reputation is well earned.

I fell in love with this place the first time I saw It. On the day of the wedding after I saw it all set up I was so glaaaad I did it there. The inside of the Atrium is simply gorgeous and I feel like it is one of the things people remember about our wedding. People that look at our pictures always comment on how pretty the place is....I didn't think we'd be able to afford it but because our wedding was in March, we got a 25% discount off their regular rental fees. If you aren't sure, just go see it and you'll understand why it was love at first sight for me. The only thing is that they don't allow live music to be played outside unless it is for the ceremony. (i wanted our guitarist to play out on the terrace during cocktail hour).

It was absolutely beautiful. They did a fantastic job, the wedding went off without a problem. My only issue was that they were so hard to get a hold of by phone or email. Email would get a better response but still wouldn't answer all my questions. Overall everything was fantastic and I would recommend it as a venue to get married in. (we did ceremony and reception)

The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens was a phenomenal venue for our wedding. Absolutely gorgeous location, and superb staff and service. We were so happy with our wedding reception at the Atrium! It is a bit pricey, but the price was completely worth it. The coordinating/managing staff were wonderful to work with while we were setting up our reception. They did a great job helping us find the wines and beers we wanted for our guests (even added extra wine distributors so we could get our favorite prosecco to toast with!), keeping everything within budget, and setting up multiple tastings so we could pick exactly the menu we wanted. On the day of, the head waiter/on-site manager was awesome. He made sure that all of our decorations and various accessories were placed exactly placed where we wanted them, that my groom and I were well taken care of during the reception, and we didn't have to worry about a thing. The food was delicious! We had many complements from guests on the quality of the food. And, of course, the gardens and Atrium themselves made a fabulous backdrop. Everything was perfect!

The venue and folks working there were fantastic. They coordinated everything fabulously, were super flexible once a date was selected. They handled all our changes, were super responsive when we had questions or comments. Working with their in-house partnered caterer was a great decision since everything went through one group, and the prices for the caterer were very reasonable.

Negatives:
- They fill up early for their dates. We had to book 9-12 months in advance to get a date we wanted.
- They are pricey for a venue.

Meadowlark Botanical gardens was our dream wedding venue and we are so thrilled we were able to get married there. We did an outdoor wedding at the end of June and the gardens were beautiful, the flowers everywhere were amazing, and our pastor even pointed out the birds chirping during the ceremony – it really felt magical! The staff at Meadowlark were incredibly accommodating (especially since we came to them with various questions every few days!) and they handled the event so smoothly. Because we have family who is out of town, we ended up going buy Meadowlark 4 different weekends to show the venue to our close family. Every time we came to visit, the staff at Meadowlark welcomed us and asked if we needed anything, and made us feel welcome to look around and show our family what a beautiful venue it was. It wasn’t until right before the wedding that we realized some of the smaller touches that we liked so much – such as the outdoor lights around the patio, the new chiavari chairs, the gorgeous orchids and other flowers planted by the stream. We loved it all! And it wasn’t until we did our “first look” photos that we really got to walk around the amazing gardens. Such a gorgeous venue!

When I saw the Atrium for the first time, I knew I had to have my wedding there. This venue allows you to experience the beauty of an outdoor wedding landscape without having to endure the outdoor elements. It was the perfect backdrop for my brunch wedding reception. The Atrium staff is not great about responsiveness and a little too aloof for my taste generally, but the venue is unmatched in my opinion, so I just dealt with it. In the end it didn't even matter, I think their perspective is been there, done that and it's so true.

It was a beautiful, well-organized, and -executed day, much thanks in part to the Atrium staff. They did all the set-up and otherwise didn't bother us the entire rest of the event. They do charge a fee for bringing in outside caterers and it's pretty hefty, so we used the in-house. I also noticed they are a lot more accommodating and flexible regarding use of the space, timing etc. if you do go with the in-house catering company, so it was a good idea in the end. The caterers did do an amazing job as well, and were flexible enough to accommodate my off-beat brunch menu of chicken and waffles.

Meadowlark is gorgeous. We had our ceremony outside and the setting was breathtaking. The grounds are stunning and created for some of the most beautiful professional wedding pictures! Our reception was in the Atrium and that setting too was unique and beautiful. It stands out from the typical hotel ballroom. Meadowlark is in high demand and books almost a year in a half advance for the majority of the year. It is comes at a high price. The rental fee is about $7k (more if you aren’t a Vienna resident); however, our wedding was so magnificant, that I would pay that price again if I had to do it over again.

I am very glad we chose to have our wedding reception at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. We held our dinner reception inside the atrium, and it was the perfect place to have our reception. The atrium was beautiful at night with the lights in the trees, and we had access to the outside balcony. The place was beautiful, and we were very satisfied! The service was good that night and they did everything we asked them to do. Overall, we were very satisfied. The whole process of the planning was a little stressful though, because it was often hard to get in touch with their staff prior to the wedding. They were very busy, and often had to leave our meetings to talk with other customers during our meetings. However, we were glad our everything turned out better than what we expected, and were satisfied with our reception.

Meadowlark was a beautiful venue, and my guests thought it was elegant and perfect for our wedding. It is a bit expensive, but if you are willing to have your wedding on any day other than Saturday, it's more afforadble. The in-house catering was delicious and very reasonable, and with such a beautiful venue, we didn't have to spend much on centerpieces, and we didn't need any extra decorations. Parking was free and easy for guests. The staff has indoor and outdoor plans and is ready for any weather.

This is a gorgeous venue. Bernadette is great to work with and very helpful. She has seen a lot of weddings there and knows what works. The downsides are that it is in such high demand and it can take about a year a half to book and it is expensive. I definitely felt better splurging on this site versus putting my money in the pockets of wealthy hotel owners, knowing how much money, time and hard work goes into keeping the gardens looking beautiful for many to enjoy. You really dont need many decorations. The place speaks for itself

In my opinion, it is nearly impossible to find a more beautiful or unique venue in the Washington, DC area. The staff at the Atrium are wonderful to work with and are incredibly responsive. My only 1 minor complaint is that the rental fee is very expensive and is only for an 8 hour period. Our vendors could have really benefited from more time to set up and we could have used the extra time for our reception. You do have the option of paying for additional hours, but the rates are astronomical. Besides that, the place is absolutely incredible!

I can't say enough great things about Meadowlark! I worked with Renee, Wayne, and with the Event Planner/Catering Manager Liz. They were just phenomenal. We mostly corresponded over email, and when I had freak out moments, they would listen and respond with cordiality and helped get my ideas from paper and turned them into a reality. I was worried that I would have to have everyone show up and help set up. I found out that part of my contract with Meadowlark included help with that. That was a huge burden off my shoulders. All I had to do was provide a list of where everything needed to go. When I showed up the day of, I was amazed at how everything was just perfect! The only recommendation I have is beware of when the sun will set if you decide to set up your ceremony facing West :) It was still gorgeous, but the sun hit our guests eyes during the first portion.

My husband, my mom, and I attended a tasting prior to the wedding. We were completely impressed by the food. They were willing to switch things out, add to the menu if we wanted, and let us ask as many questions as we wanted about the food, including how they prepared it, what ingredients were used etc. We were sad when we didn't get to stuff our faces during the actual reception, because bride's and groom's never get to eat, even when they ask someone to make sure they do. The main chef has been working in the industry for years and has such a love for food, which we could tell in what he let us sample. My favorite was the goats cheese with raspberry filled pastry.

The Atrium at Meadowlark was amazing. I have personal connections to the gardens, and knew right away that I needed my wedding to take place at this beautiful venue. I began emailing Renee, one of the staff members at The Atrium. Right away she was able to give me pricing, open dates, and answer all of the silly questions a newly engaged bride-to-be had. We nailed down a date, that was over a year away, but the staff with with me the entire way, willing to answer questions and point me in the right direction for other vendors. The day finally came around, and this was where I was totally WOWed. We had an afternoon wedding with reception following, and all through the morning, it was raining. Total bummer since we had planned to get married outside on the terrace. We finally had to make the call 35 minutes before the wedding, and moved all the chairs inside to create an aisle and alter on the dance floor. I was completely deflated, so upset that my dream wedding ceremony was being altered. To my amazing surprise, the coordinator (provided by the Atrium!) came into the bridal room saying that rain had let up, and it was sunny. If I wanted to have the wedding out on the terrace, she would make it happen, and the wedding would only start a few minutes late. I was amazed. I didn't see the chaos that ensued after, getting all the chairs and aisle decor back to their original location outside, but my husband and bridesmaids told me that the staff was a well oiled machine, getting everything placed in a matter of minutes, and making it so that I could walk down the aisle to my husband, outside like always planned. I cannot say enough good things about The Atrium and their staff: from making sure out ceremony went off without a hiccup, to plating our food to make sure we ate before venturing out to mingle with guests, they really cover everything, and know what they are doing. The best of the best, and my wedding would not have been as perfect without their help.

Meadowlark was perfect...beautiful and not in the city or in the middle of nowhere. We were so happy with the way things turned out and the attention and flexibility they provided to us along the way. One hint: We were able to cut the price in half by having our wedding on a Thursday (instead of a Saturday or Sunday) and by using their caterer (Great Blue Heron...they gave us a 10% discount)! So, make sure you ask if there are any deals / discounts available. There are just so many options...gazebos, many gardens, a lake, and the Atrium...we are so happy we chose Meadowlark!

The Atrium is definitely a beautiful place to have your wedding. It is a unique place in Northern Virginia if you don't want to have a typical hotel wedding. My husband and I loved the location and atmosphere. When we arrived at the Atrium for our reception, the place looked ultra-romantic with its indoor lit-up trees and candles everywhere. Our guests loved the venue and complimented our decision throughout the wedding and after. We ourselves wouldn't have chosen a different place, it was "us" and we are very happy with our choice.

That being said, the Atrium is not the easiest place to have a wedding. We did TONS of work. We bought all our own linens because they don't provide a single linen. When we signed the contract, we also were expecting those white chairs but by the time the wedding came, the Atrium got chiavari chairs so thankfully we got the look of a classy wedding without spending an extra $900 to rent our own. Another down-side is that the day-of coordinator is not the same person you have been communicating with for the last (almost year). She was very professional and I liked her but it would've been nice to have a familiar face.

The Atrium, because it is a government-affiliated property has a million and one rules and policies which is just annoying. No sparkler exits for this place. Also, the venue itself could be nicer (i.e. clean the overhead ducts!) but I think because its a government place, they just don't care enough to make it super sparkly like a real business would. Another government-associated problem, I think is that the curfew for a Sunday night wedding was 10:30 pm. Kinda early!! As bride & groom, we didn't mind that so much (you just have to make sure the reception starts early) but if you thought you could have a reception that lasts until 1 or 2 am, this is not the place.

I rated it lower on professionalism and responsiveness because I would often get emails back from several of them when I had addressed it to only one of them. This made things confusing and I had to re-ask some things many times because they were lost in this communication web. Renee often had to ask Wayne about things which just slowed down the process (and likewise, Liz had to relay the majority of our questions to Dennis). (My reviews of Great Blue Heron are on their page).

All in all, very lovely place to have a wedding that your guests will enjoy and your vendors will be very familiar with.

After visiting the gardens on a beautiful, sunny afternoon -- it was very difficult for us to imagine having our wedding take place anywhere else. The gardens are absolutely gorgeous.

We had to book the venue a year in advance since it's a popular place for weddings. We worked with Renee, Wayne and Liz (Great Blue Heron catering). I learned early on that calling would only lead immediately to voice mail. It's a little odd, but I guess that's why we have email. They were very responsive with email.

The overall process was relatively painless. They walked us through every step and really came through the day of when we had to go with PlanB due to rain. Instead of having the ceremony outside, we had to bring it into the Atrium. The Atrium itself is beautiful in its own right and is already so well decorated with nature, we barely noticed the difference. We were very impressed with how the venue staff transitioned the ceremony site from outside to inside. It felt like it was how it was supposed to be the entire time!

Our dinner service was unique in that we were using three different caterers. Liz was able to put together a piggy-back proposal that was a great blend of what we wanted. She was a huge help from the beginning and was there the day of to make sure it all ran smooth. Great Blue Heron was the venue's in-house catering company and they handled the bar and wait staff while the actual food was catered by two other restaurants. We had it served family-style which means courses were being served and taken away throughout the evening. The biggest complaint we had from guests was that the serve staff were taking away food too early. Some were told dishes taken away would be brought back, and guests were disappointed when they weren't. Overall the staff were very friendly and except for the minor confusion, we think the service was done very well.

It was a bit frustrating to schedule meeting times with the office at times but that may just be due to it having park hours which overlaps with regular business hours. We had to take time off work during the week a couple times to finalize a few things since the weekends were always busy with weddings!

The hardest thing for us was the venue cost. We still think it was too pricey, but at the same time - we're not sorry we decided to have our wedding there. You do get what you pay for and we received countless positive feedback from our guests about our venue choice.

Overall, my husband and I are very satisfied with our experience working with the Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens :)

The Atrium at Meadowlark was beautiful. The terrace provides a beautiful backdrop and the plants and lighting in the Atrium itself are glamorous.

The staff allowed me to visit as often as I needed for 'walk throughs' with various vendors. They tolerated several last minute changes to the seating layout and accepted those changes graciously. I had a bit of a hard time figuring out their music system (i.e., what I needed to supply versus what they offered), but it all worked out.

Great place. the gardens look spectacular, and the Atrium is gorgeous, especially as the sun sets. We put lights in the water of the table centerpieces and that really glowed well with the dimmer lighting of the Atrium and complemented the twinkle lights in the trees. It's a great place. Only problem is that if it is hot or raining, your cocktial hour will be inside as well. And, you have to leave plenty of lead time for your caterers because the Atrium doesn't let anyone in at all before your block of time.

What a stunning location if you want a garden or outdoor feel to your wedding without having to worry about the weather or those god awful tents. We got lucky and booked our date 7 months out but having a Sunday wedding in March we had no problem with any venues we looked at so if you want a location try a NON Saturday wedding it worked VERY well for us.

The staff at Meadowlark are a bit quirky as they don't answer the phone or return calls/emails particularly promptly but once you do have them they seem pretty flexible. The only real problem we ran into was the walk through 30 days out HAD to be M-F between 10am and 2pm that would be well and good but we knew they were their other days and times having met with them before. Whatever. We had all of our key vendors, lighting, photographer, caterer, and planner all at the meeting and this was a huge help to have them all talking to each other not just Meadowlark.

We did not do a lot of decoration as the location is so lovely but we did bring in a good bit of lighting and the Meadowlark staff was very upfront with the less than reliable situation of their wiring for the trees and power supply in general so everyone was prepared when the lights did start to cascade down across the building. Things were fixed and back up and going before the whole building went dark. I will say having lighting other than their more institutional lighting MADE the location truly pop.

We loved Meadowlark and already plan to have an anniversary party there!

Meadowlark is a beautiful place to get married. We had our reception there and it was wonderful. The universal comment was how beautiful was the atrium. We did have our reception at night, so it was a bit of a bummer the gardens close at 6pm and many people couldn't walk around. We got a great discount being from Fairfax County residents, booking on a Friday and in March. Though in retrospect, being in a botanical garden, I was way stressed about the weather and time of year for photos (march). I wish I had done it in mid-april and paid the extra money for it. The staff at Meadowlark is very professional and know their stuff. I highly recommend getting a caterer who knows Meadowlark b/c they are a pretty strict on certain rules. We had Marco Polo who'd been there a million times so everything worked like clockwork. I was a little stressed at the end of the night about the curfew (12pm very strict - and that's guests off the property etc). But we ended getting our deposit back even though we had stragglers (our dj did not understand the last song should be slow so that delayed us). It was only like 10 minutes later and we still got our deposit. OVeralll, a beautiful place. I'd recommend for a Saturday day-time wedding in spring. :) Night is pretty too but figure out the timing so folks can enjoy the grounds (if possible). Otherwise, the Atrium is just beautiful on its own too.

Although the atrium can be rather expensive and a bit hard to reserve a date, it is a gorgeous place to have a wedding. We were able to save some money on flowers because we did not need to ask extra flowers on the patio for the ceremony and we only had centerpieces for the table inside. However, the money spent on just the atrium itself really ate up my budget. We were fortunate and had perfect weather on the day of our wedding, but I would have been very upset if it had rained. Not only would we have had to squeeze into the atrium for the ceremony but we also would have had to take all the pictures inside and then we wouldn't have gotten our money's worth at all. As it was, the people there were very helpful and it was a perfect day.

The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens is a beautiful setting for a wedding. Our wedding took place in the fall and almost all of the flowers were still in bloom. The Atrium looked beautiful! We were so happy with it for our wedding ceremony and reception location.

Just a small caution - it is VERY expensive and because they are a county park facility, there rules are inflexible. So know what was you can and cannot do going into it. Plus, you will need to book at LEAST 18 months out. It fills up quickly.

The physical plant was what drew us to this vendor, and that was exactly what my daughter the bride was looking for. The photos on the grounds are awesome, and even though the weather forced us inside, we still had a "garden" wedding. (The swap out from ceremony to reception went fine, thanks in large part to our caterers who were pros!!) We did not use Great Heron catering due to the mediocre reviews. Dealing with the Meadowlark staff, including the beverage portion, was sometimes quite irritating. This site provides a unique venue in the Northern VA area (garden setting, non-hotel -- my daughter did not want to be married in a hotel, and seating capacity) We would use it again, but it was the weak link in our vendor line up although all's well that ends well!!

The place was beautiful, but the staff (one women in particular) was a little annoying. They wanted to shut down the bar early because she felt people were "intoxicated" and she was trying to shove people out at the end of the night when they were waiting for our limo to pick them up. The Atrium at Meadowlark Gardens is an absolutely stunning event location and the beauty of the gardens really added so much to my wedding. I believe that The Atrium was worth extending the length of our engagement (as it was fully booked for earlier dates; in all, we were engaged for 20 months). Although I personally felt the day went well, after discussing with my wedding coordinator (who also happens to be a friend), I learned The Atrium is still working out a few administrative kinks, issues which trickled down to affect my wedding. Since most of the reviews here are positive, I thought I would focus on the "cons" of booking with The Atrium, so future couples are warned. I do hope that The Atrium can make improvements, because it is one of the most beautiful wedding locations in the DC/metro area.

-The biggest issue was a staff member of Meadowlark, whom I never met in the planning process but who was present for my entire wedding. According to my wedding coordinator, she was rude, uncooperative, and, at times, combative. Ten minutes before the ceremony was to begin, she ordered that the string quartet be moved instantly, mid-song (to comply with fire codes). Most certainly that could have been worked out earlier, to avoid added stress right before the ceremony. In each of the "cons" that occurred during the reception, this particular staff member only contributed to the problem with her nasty demeanor. She also helped herself to food and drinks without asking. In response to a complaint letter I wrote to the director of Meadowlark Gardens, I was told that this individual was since fired (independent of my wedding).

-Additionally, the staff member (whom we worked with during the planning process) whom we were told would be available for my wedding, was not present longer than about 15 minutes of the day. (Perhaps some of the issues of the day would have been avoided if she was present.)

-The doors between the reception room and the balcony were in great need of servicing. Guest had difficulty opening the doors. Since the bar was placed outside, my wedding coordinator propped open the doors to the bar (to make it easier for guests), but then was told she was not allowed to do so.

-Later during the reception, many guests were extremely uncomfortable due to the temperature, as the air-conditioning was on, full-blast. When my wedding coordinator attempted to turn down the temperature, she was told that there was no way to manually adjust or turn off the air conditioning, what appears to be a blatant lie.

-About 30 minutes before the end of the reception, the power went out for about 20 seconds, while guests were dancing, detracting from the evening’s close and causing a few guests to think the wedding was over.

-Lastly, individuals who were cleaning up were asked to leave the premises (both the building and then again in the parking lot) while we had still paid for 30 additional minutes of use. Meadowlark did eventually refund us money for the time lost, but only because I asked. (If I had not known, I'm not sure if I would have received a refund.)

In discussing these issues with Meadowlark, I was told that the county does not fully understand the level of service Meadowlark must provide in catering so heavily to weddings, basically that this is the reasoning that the doors were not serviced, the power cut out, the temperature "could not be regulated," the quality of their day-of assistance was so poor. Still, given the high expense involved with booking at Meadowlark, I believe that all the issues at my wedding were unacceptable.

I will mention that, in the planning process, The Atrium staff was always very helpful and responsive. Do note that sparklers (for an exit) are not permitted at all, a fact I learned during the walk-through, after I already purchased 180 sparklers. (I believe it is in their rules and regulations, I overlooked it.) If you decide to book with The Atrium, you will have a gorgeous wedding and reception location, but be warned that your wedding coordinator may have some difficulty; some of the logistics might not fall in place so smoothly.

We had our wedding there on June 25, 2011. We absolutely love the scenery and the gardens are definitely gorgeous! All the guests loved it. However, we did not use their catering service therefore they informed us that they were only "renting" the place therefore won't be event coordinating. So keep in mind that when you are using an outside caterer you'll (or your other vendors) be responsible for the table set-up, decorations, serving the food, glassware, dishes, and the cleaning, at least. For the price we paid, we were getting more "no's we don't do that", again stating that they weren't responsible, the caterers were.

My suggestion is use their caterers which is pricey, or get a REALLY good cooperative outside caterer!

Meadowlark was a beautiful place to hold a wedding. It is nice having an atrium there to use if the weather moves the ceremony inside. The only complaint I have is that the responsiveness wasn't the best. I got one word responses in emails and it wasn't very professional.

Beautiful setting- just breathtaking for your guests, unfortunately the service provided doesn't match up with the scenery.
It's as though the wedding coordinators and Blue Heron (catering company) have never thrown a wedding. Nothing was were it suppose to be or when it was suppose to be there- totally nerve wracking to wait around for important elements of your day and watch things slip through the cracks.
The biggest disappointment for us was the lack of attention to the us- the bride and groom. A waiter never showed up at our table to get our drink order while we were eating- so there went my husband to wait in line at the (very slowwwww) bar to get us something more than water to drink. You'd think for the price you pay there, they'd at least cater to the bride and groom.
Ladies, for the kind of money you spend to get Meadowlark- the service doesn't warrant it. Not a top tier wedding vendor- spend your money elsewhere, you could get much better service and saved a ton of money to spend on flowers and make your ballroom look just as beautiful as Meadowlark!

The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens responded with the following comments:

Hello,

Thank you for reading our response. We decided not to dispute this posting and have it removed. We realize this will affect our overall rating in a negative manner, but we thought it was more important for viewers to see our response.

We suspected we were receiving some totally illegitimate/"fake" reviews. This suspicion was confirmed by this posting. We looked at our records and The Atrium had NO EVENT on Sat. April 16, 2011 (04/16/2011). This was due to a cancellation which did not rebook.

If you would like to see our paperwork confirming this cancellation, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to forward it to you.

Thank you, Atrium Management

We actually had our ceremony out of town, but wanted some pictures in our Wedding attire with our children and thought this would be the perfect place near our home to do this. The gardens are beautiful, but if you ever want to take pictures there, be prepared!!!! There is NO inclement weather policy, and after paying $362 for 2 hours of the ability to take photos in their garden, when it decided to snow, we were kicked out of their Atrium after 45 minutes!!!! There was apparently a wedding to take place later that day and they needed to set up early for it. No one cared that we had paid for 2 hours, and that we had 2 kids under 5 years old and that it was under 32 degrees out, and snowing, they still rudely asked us to leave. We had originally reserved a slot to take pictures from 10 am to 12 pm to take pictures in their Atrium, which was supposed to open at 10:00, but the person who had the keys to open the Atrium lives in Leesburg and didn't even arrive until 10:45, so the COOK was nice enough to let us in to get changed. The one bathroom we found that was open was filthy!!! We were able to get changed there, but had a heck of a time turning on any of the lights in order to take pictures in the atrium since the sun wasn't out and (again) it was snowing. After we were asked to leave by the staff setting up for the wedding, we expressed our concerns to the staff member on duty at the Atrium who just argued with us about why nothing was guarenteed and why we didn't know that when we agreed to pay the $362 originally!!!! In summary, the staff was 45 minutes late for our 10:00 shoot time, the facility was filthy, we were out $362, the staff was extremley rude, we were asked to leave an hour before our time was up, they refused to admit there was a problem and argued with us!!! It's a great place to visit, but I will NEVER give another dime to this facility!!!!!!!!

The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens responded with the following comments:

Thank you for taking the time to read our response. The reviewer states our policy exactly. To be clear, this reviewer did NOT have the Atrium or any other facilities on the property rented. They had scheduled a "Wedding Photography Session" in the GARDENS. On the Wedding Photography Application it clearly states there are no alternative sites in the gardens available in the case of inclement weather. If anyone would like to see a copy of the Wedding Photography Application to verify this please call 703-255-3631 X105 or e-mail us at Atrium@NVRPA.org.

After reading this review, I made it a point to ask all of my staff which were present, if anyone had asked them to leave. Everyone said, "No". I also had not asked them to leave. Before I even knew they were upset, I had told the staff who they were and to do their best to stay out of their shots, but not to stop working. We needed to get cleaned up and ready for another private event in The Atrium that day. One staff person did say that they had asked them to move from an area where they were placing some equipment, but that was all.

Before they left is when I became aware they were upset. After being yelled at for awhile I urged the groom to calm down and tried to explain what I've stated above and that we had a private event (in The Atrium) which didn't end until 1AM and that we had another private event (in The Atrium) that day which began at 2PM. This would have explained to him why the Atrium was "filthy" in his opinion and why we had equipment being brought out and our staff was everywhere working and cleaning. But I was not able to do this, I only got as far as to remind him the use of facilities (buildings) on the property were not included with Wedding Photography Sessions. At that point he turned away still yelling and told his mother who was in the hallway with me to, "Go away!!!! Just tell him to go away!!!!" The mother then spoke quietly and calmly to me and informed me it was "OK", that they were overly upset because it snowed and rained on their special day, which I can understand and sympathize with. This is one reason I allowed them to continue taking their shots, even though they had not rented the facilities. They then began to yell out from the Lilac Room (dressing room), "No it's not OK!!!! Don't tell him it's OK!!! Tell him to go away!!!!" At this point I realized there was no chance of us discussing anything with them because of how angry they were. So I did as they asked, I left and went back to our kitchen and talked to the "cook". The "cook" later informed me that yes, the Atrium was unlocked late. The doors were to be unlocked at 10AM, he told me he unlocked them at 10:15AM.

I hope our response helps to shed some light on the situation that occured. We do our best to ensure all of our clients are completely satisfied with their experience here. But unfortunately we cannot control the weather.

Meadowlark is a waste of money. It was an embarrassment to host our wedding there in September!

The “day of” staff is young, inexperienced and completely unresponsive (see other similar reviews under The Atrium at Meadowlark).
It’s a long review- but worth the read if you are seriously considering Meadowlark.
The facility is beautiful- but use your own cater and get a coordinator!
Will definitely answer any questions any prospective bride and groom have- as we would like to ensure that no one else’s dreams and money are squandered as ours were.
We have the wedding video- and will be uploading it to YouTube as a testament.

General Meadowlark Issues:
-They aren’t responsive at all. Everything is “sure you can do that” until the week before your wedding.
We met with Renee and Liz 2 days prior to the wedding to go over everything and drop everything off. Liz couldn’t have been bothered with meeting with us- she rudely blew us off and told us if it was labeled she could figure it out. Everything was labeled and included a manifest. We tried to detail what each box was and go through the timeline- yet Liz was very obviously not paying attention and kept saying “uh huh”.
We tried to walk through the final timeline with her and she told us- it was “self explanatory”. We were appalled at her rudeness and lack of attentiveness.
We knew after our meeting with her, things were heading in the wrong direction- we spent that afternoon desperately trying to find a last minute coordinator- but we were too late. We later found out that Meadowlark had “double booked” our wedding night- one at Meadowlark and one at an offsite that Great Blue Heron was catering/coordinating.
Our stuff got lost in the mix of the other wedding’s stuff.

The morning of my wedding- Meadowlark calls the bride with two “emergencies”. Literally as my hair is getting done, I’m emailing Meadowlark the dinner breakout and dealing with where some of the desserts should be stored. This information had all been emailed to them the week prior and we had tried to go over it with Liz two days earlier.

As we arrived at the reception- we realized that the favors had not been distributed on the tables (were still in the box), the hurricane vases and candles were put out- but never lit, and the chocolates we had made for our desert bar were never put out.
Our engraved champagne glasses were no where to be found for the toast- still in the box we delivered them in. Luckily our photographer guided us through the cake cutting—there were no utensils put out to cut the cake, most importantly the ones we provided were missing. At that point the mother of the bride, did grab Sean who after 6 minutes (as the video shows) of us standing there, he emerges with the engraved cake cuter we supplied.

-There was a busted water pipe in the back room that leaked onto a table their entire meal. The meal was so heavy, the guests at that table- moved their chairs and place settings to other tables.
-They lost wedding items we provided. When we arrived on Sunday- we were missing hurricane vases and our table numbers. Their response was to “check with guests and vendors- these things always happen because people take stuff”. We’ve checked for the last 3 months, they are gone and we had to reimburse the florist for her missing hurricane vases.

Alcohol Disaster:
-We provided 3 times the amount of alcohol that both Great Blue Heron and Total Wine suggested. 20 minutes into the cocktail hour, the groom and father of the bride were pulled aside to be told we were running out of alcohol.
We had painstakingly divided the alcohol by bar and provide it to Meadowlark organized- unfortunately, they loaded it onto a cart and minimally filled the 2 bars. After 30 minutes of panic by the bride, groom, and brides parents- in which we searched the bars, closet where we left the alcohol, etc- the father of the bride sent someone to purchase cases of beer. There are no pictures of us enjoying our cocktail hour because of this.
When we arrived at Meadowlark the day after our wedding to address our complaints, there was our alcohol stacked on a cart that had been moved by an employee.
Our guests were turned away and told that we had run out of wine, liquor, etc- yet the cases we provided were there but not “found” because of a communication breakdown.
-Bar tenders were young- very young, high school young- as in were in high school with kids that were guests. They didn’t know how to make a drink- would grab the gin instead of the rum, give Bud instead of Budlight. With that, the bar line was long- ridiculously long because they had no idea how to serve guests.

Issues with Great Blue Heron:
We had 3 tastings with them- everything was perfect and delicious.
Totally different story the day of the event.
-Food was sparse during the cocktail hour. The displays were prepared for 50 people not 150. They were wiped out within the first 15 minutes.
Great Blue Heron is greatly understaffed- so the passed appetizers were almost non existent. Seldom did you see a waiter, and when you did the trays were made for 20 people--- there is plenty of room to nearly double or triple the amount of appetizers that were on those trays. Of the 6 passed appetizers we chose, we only saw and heard of people having 3 of them.
-Food was undercooked. The chicken appetizer was nearly raw- so raw, that my uncle grabbed the waiter and told him that he needed to return that tray to have it cooked.
The filet at dinner wasn’t cooked for even the rarest of heart and cold- ice cold. We had almost 30 guests complain to us about their cold, undercooked meal. Several guests asks to have their meals “re-cooked” and the wait staff told them no.
-The portion size of the dinner was a fraction of what we tasted and were told was going to be served. It almost looked like a kid’s meal.
-Understaffed: Because there are so few waiters- there is a long delay as the food is served. The salad was served and nearly 40 minutes later, service started for the main room’s dinner entrée. The main room received their meal, ate it, and some tables were cleared before the back room was served—nearly 45 minutes later. At this point, the band resumed playing to entertain the front room.

We went straight from our post wedding brunch to Meadowlark to address the issues and were blown off by excuse after excuse. At the time we didn’t realize the extent of damage was going to show in our pictures and videos- so it was our word verses theirs. We raised the complaint to the Regional Superindent, who was prompt and apologetic- even offered a small reimbursement (minimal compared to what was spent on Meadowlark and GBH).

We would never recommend Meadowlark or Great Blue Heron. They are inexperienced, unprofessional, and rude—which contributed to ruining our wedding day.

Beautiful setting- horribly inexperienced staff. Everything crumbled the day of our wedding. Luckily we had a wedding coordinator that saved the day otherwise it would have fallen apart.
Liz, Renee, and Wayne were completely uninterested in making our day special- which was a 180 of how they treated us leading up to the wedding.
They run that place like a cattle call. They get the guests in and fed and send them on their way.

I would bet that every single positive reviewer on here had a wedding coordinator. There is no way you can use this venue and have a successful wedding there without one. We hired ours at the last minute (based on reviews below)- and it was the best money we ever spent.

Seriously, if you are looking at Meadowlark because it is a top venue in DC- it's not anymore. The staff has run that place into the ground.

The Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens responded with the following comments:

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to read our response. Once again, we decided to respond and not dispute this and have this posting removed. We've done this so people reading reviews see our response which we feel is important. We suspected we were receiving illigitimate/"fake" reviews. Once again, this posting confirms these suspicions. From this point forth we will dispute postings we are able to confirm are fake.

We just got off the phone with the mother of the bride for this event. She confirmed our recollection that she, her daughter and everyone else attending the wedding reception couldn't have been happier. This was also confirmed by her returned Satisfaction Survey, which we send out to each client post event. If anyone would like us to e-mail a copy of the Post Event Satisfaction Survey for this event we will be happy to do so.

Also, as you can see to the left, this review was posted by a "jessica". While on the phone with the mother of the bride she confirmed our records, no one goes by the name Jessica. The brides name for the event held on Sat. Oct. 23, 2010 was Rachel. This was the first indicator to us this posting was a fake.

Another thing to consider is our in-house catering department, Great Blue Heron Catering, did not cater this event. The false reviewer made it sound as if we catered the event. It was actually catered by an outside caterer and the mother of the bride (Karen) also said the outside caterer did a outstanding job (R&R Catering).

NOTE: very suspicious that the other "bad" review above from VAAprilBride 4/16/2011, starts off her review the same exact way this one does with, "Beautiful setting-". This leads us to believe it may be the same person posting these completely false/fake reviews.

We think this sums it up, should anyone reading reviews have further questions we welcome their calls or e-mails.

Thank you, Atrium Management

Meadowlark is a beautiful place to have a wedding and that is about it. There staff was kind in the beginning and anything we wanted to do they where either willing to work with us or told us "yea that's ok". Then after they got our depostit money became very rude and mean. I was told that we where not allowed to use sparkelers when the manager said we would discuss it and then later refused to. I though this was incrediably unreasonable because my now husband is a firefighter and we where having an antique fire engine there along with ONDUTY staff from the closest fire station to them with there real truck. He said people throw the sparkelers thats why he couldn't do it and we where even willing to put up our $1000 deposit incase anyone threw any but he still refused.

Whats even worse is we have two elderly grandparents and we asked to get the one wheelchair then have at the visitors center and they said it was "FIRST COME FIRST SERVE" so I couldn't even have some one grab there only wheelchair for my grandfather who had just gotten out of the hospital they are really low. Also there staff of two people " where are there for your event" came down and ate our food and were also dressed inapproatly short shorts and black stelodow heals. We also got there 5 min before 4 the time we where do to have the location at and they wouldn't open the door and it was misting and raining.
they are completely unprofessional and mean I wouldn't ever recomend them to anyone.
