I have fond memories of eating at Black Eyed Pea while I was in college at TCU. So, when my wedding planner suggested that we cater the reception from BEP, I was excited. Our meat and vegetable choices were perfectly cooked and when served, just the right temperature. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, as well.

I have only two complaints. One: that the bar staff was handing out entire bottles of wine and pitchers of beer to guests, instead of a single glass. Because of this, we ran out of drinks too quickly. Two: my husband and I didn't receive the top tier of our wedding cake. I was assured by my baker and wedding planner that they explicitly told BEP which boxes to pack the top tier in for safekeeping until the end of the night. However, I heard from several guests that they enjoyed a few pieces from that tier. Thank goodness Frosted Art Bakery will bake us another one on our one-year anniversary!

I would definitely recommend BEP for any catering needs, but make sure that they know the TABC laws for serving alcohol and to pack up your top tier before serving it to your guests!!

They did an awesome job with the food, we received SO MANY compliments on the food that was served. I worked with Heather over the details and she was great with keeping up with changes and making sure the night went off seamlessly! I would definitely recommend BEP for catering!

Kind of a mixed bag here. Heather, our contact at the Black-Eyed Pea, was fantastic. She was, generally, quick to respond, and always courteous, professional, and accommodating. We really appreciate it! It definitely made the process much easier on us!

In general, the process was very easy, and the staff were very courteous. They had plates prepared for my husband and myself when we finished with photos and came to the reception hall, and they had a second set of meals packed and ready to go for us so we didn't have to think about our supper. They were very efficient in serving our guests, and they were efficient in their cleanup and exit. There were no complaints (or charges) from our venue for messes or overtime. That was very much appreciated.

There were some communication problems during the lead-up to the wedding. We paid a partial amount of the catering, and my husband's parents paid the remainder. There was confusion in some of the billing about how much had been paid and when and whether a refund was owed, as the two accounts were separate in the Black-Eyed Pea's computers. It did get sorted out fairly quickly once we'd found the issue, but there was a little stress in the meantime.

There was no information on food allergy safety or on vegetarian-compliance offered. We had to ask about each concern as it arose, which did lead to some minor issues. The emails were answered quickly and thoroughly, but it was a bit off-putting to have to email about each main course and side dish separately, then separate emails for each food allergy we became aware of. If you need to plan around these things, be sure you ask and don't assume! The staff will definitely get you the answers, but it won't be volunteered.

The food itself was pretty standard catering fare. We selected the grilled chicken breast and the pot roast, allowing guests to choose. Our sides were the green beans, the sweet baby carrots, and the new potatoes. The food was rather tepid temperature-wise, but tasty. Drink service was available. Once everyone had been served, one or two attendants walked around refilling tea and water. Dishes were cleared away. Very standard procedure. The price worked out to $23 a plate after food, china/flatware rentals, gratuities, etc. The quality was good, but I'm not sure it was "$23 per person" good.

We cannot say enough good things about The Black Eyed Pea and the marvelous job they did catering our daughter's wedding! From the first taste test to the actual food swerved at the wedding, Heather and her staff were right there to make sure everything was done right! The whole time of dining went so smoothly and our guests all commented on how much they liked the food and the service given to them by the Black Eyed Pea staff! I would use them again in a heartbeat and I would give them all "10s" on their review, if I could!

I loved working with Heather of Black Eyed Pea - from the very start, she was so sweet, encouraging and just a joy to work with. She put me at ease and made me feel that the catering for my wedding would be taken care of excellently. And it was. The food was delicious, they arrived in a timely manner, set up beautifully, and took care of my guests. I am so glad we chose them for our catering. They brought specially made up plates to me and my husband during the reception, and they also made to-go plates for us to take to our hotel (which we wolfed down when we got to our room because we were so hungry!). I heartily recommend Black Eyed Pea to any bride that wants affordable, delicious and professional food service.

This is my favorite wedding vendor. Heather Rose is an angel sent directly from heaven to help brides and make their weddings amazing. The food was delicious, the grilled chicken was tender and not a bit dry, the roasted red potatoes and green beans a huge hit. Heather helped keep the wedding on schedule, but also gave us the flexibility to flow with the party. More time to mingle before dinner? Heather was on it. Cutting the cake? She was right there.

Heather's attention to detail was astounding. At our tasting I LOVED the carrots, but my husband said "no one will eat them but you." so we passed on them. When my plate was delivered to the sweetheart table I looked down and there were carrots, I said, "oh no." and pointed them out to my husband thinking something had gotten mixed up with all of the back and forth about carrots. Nope! There were green beans on my husband's plate! Heather had brought a small portion of carrots just for me because I had loved them so much!

Her staff was amazing and professional. The bartender we hired through BEP put some Shiner back for my DH so he would always have the beer he wanted to drink even when everyone else had to switch to something else. Plates were cleared without delay and all of the guests kept telling me they couldn't believe the service. The to-go bag BEP packed for us was chock full of food including slices of cake (YAY!!) and two of every kind of cookie from our cookie bar.

The price was phenomenal! When I told a friend what we paid she was floored; she said from what she saw at the wedding she would have bet we spent three times as much. I would use Heather and BEP again and again and can not recommend them more highly!!

A very affordable option. I enjoyed the food, and didn't have to worry about anything. In fact, the day of the wedding, Fred called me and asked if I had any errands I needed him to run! Now that's service.

Unfortunately, there was a tiny mistake - they brought unsweet tea instead of the sweetened raspberry tea we requested.
