We had our July 20, 2014 wedding at The Green Building and it was absolutely perfect! Our original venue closed two weeks before our wedding day. It was disastrous and I was nervous we wouldn't be able to re-plan everything in time. The Green Building was so kind to offer discounted rates to those affected by the closing. I was blown away by the generosity. Not to mention, My husband and I fell IN LOVE with the venue as soon as we stepped in! Brooke was our contact person and she was so lovely, flexible, accommodating and understanding and truly made planning enjoyable. Nothing made me feel better than to hear guests gasped when the saw the courtyard and the indoor space. Our guests were grateful that we didn't have the typical ballroom/wedding hall wedding. We would definitely recommend The Green Building for a wedding or any other event!

We just had our May 2014 wedding at The Green Building and it was absolutely perfect! The team, especially Quin, was so great and easy to work with and they made planning so enjoyable for us. They were so flexible to accommodate our needs and all of our guests commented on how unique and beautiful the building and outdoor space were and how it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to. We would definitely recommend The Green Building for a wedding or any other event!

(And though we didn't use it, the space across the street - 501 Union - is gorgeous and also worth checking out!)

I had my wedding at the Green Building two weeks ago. The husband and I fell in love with it the first time we saw it and knew it was THE place. The coordinator that we were initially in contact with did not answer our emails and made us skeptical but we were later told she was on vacation. After working with another coordinator we had no problems and any questions were answered promptly. Understandably, when we booked the Green Building it was a year and a half away so all the details of the contract was not remembered but a quick reminder was all it took and it was fine. The reason I rated 4 for value was because they are still quite expensive and when everything is done, it almost cost us the same amount if we went with a high-end all inclusive venue. We had to rent the furniture, hire the workers, and also had to pay for the outdoor space which would not have been used during the wedding anyway. That said, the outdoor space was recently renovated as was the windows and they look great. Everything else worked out fine, mainly because I had family living in Brooklyn. Otherwise, if you are a hands-on, DIY bride like me and do not live in Brooklyn or have family in Brooklyn, it may be pretty stressful to arrange for equipment/decoration to be dropped off prior to the wedding because the Green Building is so popular during summer and fall weekends. Everything had to be done the morning of which kept me on nerves until my family told me everything was dropped off. Overall, the space was great, my pictures look amazing, and I had the time of my life at my wedding.

For us, it was love at first sight with The Green Building. In fact, we looked at TGB, knew that we absolutely had to have it for our wedding, booked it, and THEN my husband proposed! Our wedding was in August and it was everything we were hoping for and more. The atmosphere was romantic, whimsical, and very "urban chic" (as we like to describe it). The space looked so beautiful that it makes me smile just thinking about it. TGB staff were efficient and professional and have this whole wedding thing down to a science. We worked primarily with Brooke and then after she went on maternity leave Kara. Both were extremely attentive, responsive, and knowledgeable. They were particularly helpful during our walk through. We went through everything with them and were able to get everything in order before our big day. We left feeling calm and on top of things! We also were pleasantly surprised by the recent renovations, including a brand new and big outside space and floor to ceiling windows that let in lots of gorgeous light. When we booked the space we had no idea that they would be adding these things, so it was an unexpected bonus for us! Price wise, TGB was very reasonable (for NYC venues!). When we first started looking for places to get married we googled "inexpensive wedding venues in Brooklyn," and that's how we found out about TGB. Although the cost can start to add up because it is DIY, it was still much cheaper than similar venues in Brooklyn. I can't imagine having had my wedding anywhere other than TGB. It is simply a breathtakingly beautiful space!

We had our ceremony at 501 Union and our reception at the Green Building across the street, both owned by the same amazing company. Both venues are gorgeous! The staff at both are sooo friendly and helpful throughout the whole process. They walked us through all the rentals, features of the space, decorating ideas, etc. many times over multiple visits. They were also extremely responsive to our many questions along the way! The staff the day of the event was attentive and friendly, from helping with set up, assisting the other arriving vendors to helping our guests get cars at the end of the night....they were just perfect!

We got sooo many compliments on the beautiful spaces (and we're architects so that was important to us!) We couldn't imagine our wedding being anywhere else!

Thanks again Green Building team!

We loved The Green Building. It was exactly what we were looking for in a venue, however we were slightly disappointed in the lack of air conditioning in the place. We had our wedding on an extremely hot summer day and there was no doubt the place was on fire! Our guests were sweating, we were sweating, our poor officiant was dripping with sweat as he married us. It was a bit ridiculous as to how hot the venue was. Throughout the night our guests fought to stand in front of the fans that did little to nothing to cool them down. As much as I loved the venue, the workers, the overall aesthetics of the place the lack of A/C ruined it for me. My makeup was slowly melting off my face. And The Green Building never once offered to waive any fee knowing how hot the place was. Had we known the A/C was not able to cool the place down, I don't think we would have booked the place for a July wedding. Otherwise, the place is great and the people are great... Just not in the summer.

The building and space is just beautiful. But BEWARE if you have a summer event and want your guests comfortable in the summer. We thought we were renting an air conditioned space. It wasn't. The building owner, a most unlikable and difficult man, will show you specs (after the fact) that 'prove' that the 15-ton unit meets building requirements for a space that size. Whether or not that's true isn't the issue. When someone advertises (and contractually commits to) a space as "air conditioned", the expectation is that guests will stay cool in the summer regardless of the temperature or humidity. His comments the day after the wedding are untrue in the first case ("no building stays cool in this heat") and a reflection that money will not be invested in the space until backs are against the wall ("we'll be addressing the A/C later this week"). Why this wasn't communicated to renters? Money. Plus the attitude that the space is so fabulous that people won't care that the A/C doesn't work. If the A/C doesn't work properly, the claim should be removed from advertising and removed from contracts so renters can make their own decisions. Period.

Second, regardless of the contractual language about bathrooms guaranteed to be in working order, when we arrived on the day of the wedding only 3 of the 4 bathroom stalls were working. The explanation? "We called a 24-hour plumber and they can't come until tomorrow." I wonder if the bathroom would have been fixed if the response had been "I'll pay you double since I have a contractual commitment that 150 people need 4 rest rooms to use instead
of 3" would have drawn a speedier fix?

The owner's attitude ("I'm sorry you were disappointed") is a reflection of his total disregard for anything or anyone who will cause that organization to spend money. Buyer beware.

We had our October 21st Wedding at The Green Building and we could not have been happier! Quin Johnson was beyond helpful in planning and a true pleasure to work with. She made everything so easy for us!
The space is just gorgeous. We had our ceremony and reception inside. The ceremony could not have been more romantic. We used the front wall (the one with the kitchen entrance) and had a light wall hung. The lights combined with the rustic charm of the space was breathtaking. Our cocktail hour was in the outdoor space which looked fantastic with the lights strung along the top. The indoor space was just the perfect size for our reception of 135 seated. We did banquet style tables and still had plenty of room for a dance floor.
I cannot even begin to count the number of compliments we received on how beautiful our venue was. It is truly a magical space.

The Green Building had just the atmosphere my husband and I wanted for our wedding and reception of 150 guests. It has an old-world industrial Brooklyn feel with exposed brick and wood beams. The columnless room allows for a flexible floor plan; the high ceiling makes the room voluminous. The details are simple and give a taste of an era gone by with elegant chandeliers and a small retro speakeasy lounge for a cozy private spot. I fell in love with the space.
Ours was a summer afternoon wedding and the soft light that filtered through the high windows was a lovely touch. We chose a simple decor but the space could easily support more dressing up.
Everyone at The Green Building was helpful, especially Brooke who was excellent at communicating and offering practical options to consider. We were in very good hands. It was a wonderful event- everyone loved The Green Building. I highly recommend this space for weddings or other events.

We got married last weekend and we had our reception at the Green Building. Not only was the reception a fantastic affair but the Green Building was amazing. We wanted an urban chic wedding with a vintage flare. The Green Building staff helped us to make our vision come true and our friends and family were more than impressed with the space. I highly recommend the Green Building and Quin, Meghan and Brooke were more than helpful to answer questions, give recommendations and provide solutions to any challenges. If you are looking for a great space at a reasonable price consider this venue. We did and we couldn't be happier.

Book early! This is a popular spot. For New York, I think it qualifies as a budget option. I loved that you didn't need to worry too much about decorating it. It looks "special" as it is; throw some candles up in the windows and call it a day. Love that you get the space for 24 hours.

My fiance and I fell in love with The Green Building when we saw it. We knew it would allow us to create a wedding that felt like "us", and have our family and friends experience a little piece of our lives right here in Brooklyn. We also loved that we could bring in Frankies Spuntino to cater, and that the space, although empty, had SO MUCH character (including the lobby entrance, and the speakeasy), and the nice, new and plentiful bathrooms in the space.

The staff at The Green Building is pretty laid back, which most of the time is great, because this means they are flexible...in fact, they pride themselves on being flexible!, however, every once and a while I wished they were a little more responsive. This isn't really a negative, more a warning to stressed-out brides out there.

We used their bar program, and we went with the full bar package. We were so glad we did. The cocktail list is great, the drinks were delicious at the wedding, and allowing the staff to organize the bar instead of us, relieved us of a lot of extra work. We did, however, upgrade the wines, which were ok, but for a few extra dollars, we drank what we wanted. (flexible!)

There was a huge rain storm the day of our wedding, so we didn't get to take photos outside, but if you can, union street around the bridge is great for pictures, and we were also planning on having our first look at Cobble Hill Park, a short car ride away.

The space was a welcome haven from the storm outside for our guests, and the space looked so inviting with the candles and flowers. The staff was very attentive, and the day was beautiful. We unfortunately also didn't get to use the large gate, but still, the room felt intimate with 90 guests.

Overall, TGB is an absolutely lovely space, and our guests were amazed. We would DEFINITELY recommend the space for anyone that wants to show off the neighborhood to their guests. The Green Building is really a gem!

I can't say enough about the Green Building.

The raw space is gorgeous.

The staff is SO helpful. Especially our day-of-coordinator, Quin. SHE EARNED HER MONEY!! Our wedding was very much an event complete with staged dances and musical numbers. She coordinated all our vendors and had everyone on a timeline that Quin adjusted on the spot to accommodate the flow of the wedding. Everything went off with out a hitch. We could never have done it with out her.

We held our wedding at the green building and it turned out fantastic. The main space is 2 stories and open to the rafters with exposed structural elements. I'm guessing it was built in the late 19th or early 20th century, so it has a nice industrial charm. There is also a small fully decorated lounge reminiscent of a speakeasy, which is great for pre-event preparations and photos.

The booking manager and house manager were professional, accessible and easy to deal with, and made the business side of the transaction pain-free. Also you get the space for 24 hours which gives you ample time to set up the space to your liking and enjoy it to the fullest. Compared to other venues of a similar nature the green building was far and away the best value.

This makes it ideal for someone who wants to be creative and design her own event. The house can provide bar packages or you can organize it yourself. The flexibility to manage your own event providers is a nice plus, but they do have preferred vendors who we used and we would also recommend to keep it simple.

I had my wedding at the Green Building last month and I could not have been happier. I can't even tell you how many compliments I received on the space and how gorgeous it was and perfect for our personalities. The staff are easy to work with and very low key- I appreciated the "a la carte" freedom of this venue and the ability to do things my own way... which is a lot more work but allowed us to make the day reflect us rather than look like a cookie cutter wedding. From the time we booked the space until the wedding the Green Building underwent an incredible transformation- I have no doubts that this space is going to go big places in the next few years. There were many renovations that made the venue even more beautiful than it was when I first stumbled across it. I really have no complaints- this was the PERFECT backdrop for my wedding!

1. We hired their in house day of coordinator Brooke to help with the wedding. Wedding started at 6pm she didn't arrive until after 9pm. YES SHE SHOWED UP WELL AFTER THE WEDDING STARTED.

2. Paid for the space to be set up by their team. While Quin attempted to do it barely. Most of the set up had to be done by my bridesmaids, thank goodness we got there early.

3. Paid for the outdoor space that just so you know isn't secured to the ground and when it gets windy the wall seem like they are going to fly away. Also was told that in case of rain they would have tenting and thus the outdoor space would always be usable. THAT WAS A LIE. They didn't have a tent, they had a tarp BUT were unable to figure out how to secure it so on the day of the wedding, they didn't have anything up despite weather reports and when it did start to rain outdoor space was unusable and also the 1 of 2 bars they had set up.

4. We paid for the bar services and were told all the way until the day before our wedding that we would have 3 bars set up. On the evening before Max Gustashaw decided to explain that they were only going to 2 even though they agreed to 3. The lines were long and another promise not met.

5. They broke my cake topper and decided to put it on my cake despite that fact. The topper was a unicorn and bunny and the unicorn looked like it had flesh eating disease cause they tried to glue it together and the face was crushed. I didn't find this out until I went up to cut my cake.

6. It was raining and HUGE HUGE puddles were all over the space and since they were under staffed the space was extremely unsafe.

7. Truck drivers from parking lot behind the space were having violent fight and one of my guests had to go break it up. I wasn't aware when booking the space that the neighborhood could be unsafe but it certainly felt that way when the truck drivers behind the space were laying on their horns and fighting and causing a scene.

8. Understaffed and Rude.

The space was beautiful and available on short notice as another venue had fallen through. Unfortunately on the day of our reception, the AC was not working, imagine 150 people in an old factory building with no AC on A summer's day...very loud fans were brought in, but did not alleviate the heat. As well, it stormed for about an hour during the reception, no big deal because it's an indoor venue, right? WRONG!!! A wall towards the back of the space started leaking...a bit understandable because the space had recently been renovated...problem was, at least two tables of guests had to be moved, one of those table was drenched! Thank God, my planner did not charge us, to dry clean the linens or charge us for the decor that was used on the table. The flooding that resulted at the exit severely dirtied the hem of my gown...but overall our day was perfect so nothing could upset me...WRONG again, a month after our reception, we called the owner of The Green Building on Union, not to complain about any of those things, but to as to ask for our refundable deposit...my husband, planner and I called countless times. We left messages, spoke to the owner, but to no avail...months passed with us calling and calling and calling! Finally my husband and I spoke to the owner on speaker phone, about four months after our wedding...it's sad to say that 6 months after our wedding we received a check in the mail for only half the amount of our deposit...I'm not sure what happened. I am still shocked at the events that took place. The Green Building on Union, made absolutely no effort to compensate us for everything that went wrong on that day and then decided not to give us our full refund. I wish I could highly recommend this space, but I cannot. It is a beautiful space, but beware!!!
