Located within the heart of the Classic City and blocks away from the University of Georgia Campus, the Taylor Grady House is the perfect location for weddings and receptions. No need for guests to travel far from hotels! Beautiful landscaping and interiors along with an experienced staff will make your wedding day one to remember.

This Greek Revival Mansion is ideal for special occasions, offering over 10,000 square feet for you and your guests!

Athens one and only National Historic Landmark, the Taylor Grady House was built circa 1884 by Robert Taylor, a wealthy cotton merchant and planter, and was home to Henry W. Grady, a well known 19th century newspaperman and namesake of the University of Georgia's school of journalism during his years at the University, 1865-8.

After exchanging hands many times, this house belonged to an estate in the 1950's and 60's and was left vacant for thirteen years. The house fell into disrepair during that time, but was saved when the city of Athens bought it in 1966 and turned over to the Junior League of Athens ( a non profit organization dedicated to women, children and poverty) to operate. The house is furnished with beautiful antiques and is a treasured National historic and local landmark. Read less

As soon as we got engaged, we knew we wanted to be at Taylor Grady - it was the PERFECT one stop shop for Athens wedding. Being able to rent such a beautiful shell of a space and use our own caterer and other vendors was the most ideal of all. The approved caterer list for TG House includes all of those Athens favorites that you would already want to use - so no worries there. Also, you are provided with a list of "suggested" vendors to help when you are already overwhelmed for choosing photographer, florist, cake, etc.

Janet was a pleasure to work with and was always responsive to our questions. We were able to call her or email whatever was easiest for us in order to get any and all questions answered. Personally, we purchased the additional 5 hours to check in to the house at 9am, and it was the BEST decision. $500 to avoid carting around all of your bridesmaids and just being able to get ready there and stay there for pictures - best idea ever.

If we were having a wedding again, I would do it all over. If you are worried about rain, make sure that you have a contingency plan - it poured down rain and we made it work - but we also hosted our ceremony offsite.

We just booked this venue and I am SO excited about it! Our contact Janet has been so easy to work with already and she even met us an hour before the house was supposed to open to accommodate my fiancé's work schedule.

Since this place is a non-profit it is super affordable and they have so much flexibility with outside vendors. It is one of the only places we found that could accommodate our guest list of 350 anyways.

Another tip is that we are going to get married on a Sunday which is half the cost AND since there is a wedding there that Saturday, we get half off on renting a tent because we are going to split it with the other wedding. Makes it so affordable! I'm so excited for our big day.

My husband and I have no affiliation with Athens at all. We wanted a wedding ceremony and reception venue that resembled a historic white house and searched and searched with nothing in our local area (Habersham and Hall Counties). I stumbled across the TGH on Google one afternoon and screenshot a picture over to my husband and told him I found the perfect place and that I HAD to get married there. He agreed that it looked perfect, but he wondered if it would be out of our budget. A few days later my mom and I drove over to Athens to take a look at the TGH in person and I instantly fell in love with it from the parking lot. The grand columns, the brick dance floor, the giant tree...oh I could go on. After sitting down and talking numbers, we discovered that it was well within our price range! AND we got it for 10 hours on Saturday and a few hours on Friday night (great for the rehearsal dinner!). We booked about 8 months in advance of our September wedding and during those 8 months, the person in charge over there, Janet, kept in touch with my through emails and phone calls. She checked in with me to make sure plans were coming along and to keep me updated on anything going on with the venue. During the planning process, we were provided with a list of suggested vendors. We were only required to use a caterer from their list, due to the house being old and certain caterers knowing how to maneuver around the property, which was no problem at all! We were married on a Saturday game day in Athens, which was definitely a concern during the planning process. We worried about noise, fans, the whole nine yards. When it came to wedding day, we had no problem at all, I don't even think we saw one Georgia fan the whole time. Also, let me talk about the resident manager who lives on the property and was there the whole time if we had a question or needed assistance...he was amazing!

We could not have picked a better venue. It's the perfect place for a Southern wedding! Not only is it beautiful, but the staff is such a pleasure to work with! They were very helpful and accommodating.

The Taylor Grady House (TGH) is a gorgeous venue, with the outdoor antebellum feel we wanted combined with proximity to downtown Athens. Even better, they are flexible in terms of outside vendors, meaning you can work with pretty much any Athens caterer and buy your own alcohol (to save some money on the bar!).

A few points to be aware of: currently the TGH office person is only part-time, so unless you catch them while working, it can take a couple days to get a response. The person I worked with was always very professional and nice though. Also, while TGH does have a site manager, they are not an event coordinator so get your own if that's the type of service you're expecting.

Overall, I highly recommend the venue. It's gorgeous, historic and can accommodate a large wedding if you are ok with outdoors!

Beautiful venue. We lucked out with weather and had a beautiful day for our ceremony. Had a smaller wedding of about 115 and there was plenty of room. Although it is an old plantation style home, the inside was air conditioned for people to go in and cool down. Absolutely gorgeous inside and out. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly. INCREDIBLE price for the weekend package as well.
