I had my wedding here just recently, and it was perfect! The ceremony was in the Redwood Grove, which is beautiful and can accommodate various guest sizes. I had a super small ceremony of 30 people, and even though it can seat 100 guests it still felt small and intimate.

I also had my reception outside on their conference center patio, and it was great. The on-site coordinator, Margie Richardson, was very nice and understanding of my needs. She did not always return my calls or emails, but the only real issue was she forgot about our arranged rehearsal date until I mentioned it about a week previous to the ceremony.

Overall, great deal for the location and what you receive. I would recommend this place to anybody!

We didn't actually have our reception here, just our ceremony, but there's no option to pick "ceremony only." We had our ceremony in the Redwood Grove, which was just incredibly beautiful. Margie Richardson was great to work with, even though she seemed a little out of it when we met with her and we still haven't received an invoice for our parking payment (but I think that's the university parking department's problem, not hers). She didn't always respond to phone calls but luckily the things we needed her for were less urgent, so it was okay if it took a couple calls to get her to call back. She didn't often answer her phone but she did eventually call back about things. And in the end, nothing went wrong! We paid $50 for seat cushions and the guy showed up about half an hour before the ceremony to put them down, and that was about all we needed them to do.
I do think the venue is a little expensive (you have to rent it for a minimum of two hours and it's $350 an hour) but it was just perfect for us, so we went for it. We ended up having to have our rehearsal on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 even though our wedding was on Friday because the place was booked up on the Thursday before, so keep that in mind. It's a popular place with a lot of restrictions on decorating and what you can bring in - it says you can't bring in drinks or food, but we saw people leaving a ceremony once and they had a water station set up. You can't drop anything (rose petals, rice, etc) that you're not going to pick up when you leave. But really - we didn't need to decorate anything except the circle that we stood on. The place is so beautiful it really doesn't require decorating unless you're looking for something really over the top.

I really cant say enough about how wonderful this venue was for our wedding. It was simply perfect! It met our needs exactly, but provided such an outstanding surrounding, It was just so marvelous. I rated a low flexability for specific reasons that you should be aware of before falling in love with the site. The reception hall is very small. We had a small wedding (85 guests) so it was perfect for us, but if you have 100 people or more, you might want to hold the reception at a near by location. secondly, there are some decoration restrictions in the hall as well (no balloons, nothing suspended from the ceiling, etc) we wanted to utilize the natural beauty of the surrounding botanical exhibits anyway so again, for us it was perfect. the other restriction, and perhaps the only thing that snagged us was the cattering list. they have a prefered cattering list of vendors to choose from, but we werent satisfied with any of them and had to pay a $500 extra charge for going outside their catering network. which was frustrating because our vendor turned out to be better and less expensive than anyone else on the list and was also a local business to boot, so beware of that. At this point you might be wondering why i scored this venue so high, well when you see the ceromony site and then walk through the garden you will see why. I only try to objectively point out the sites flaws so that you dont waste time checking out a site that simple doest fit your needs. As stated earlier, this venue worked perfectly for us, we knew what we wanted and are now left with fabulous memories and a picture album that is Out of This World beautiful.

Overall we had a great experience holding our wedding ceremony in the Mather Redwood Grove at the UC Botanical Gardens in Berkeley, CA. The Garden rental coordinator, Margie Richardson, is a warm and lovely person and always treated us with great consideration. She patiently accommodated all our date changes and scheduled us as much rehearsal time and buffer time as possible, for no extra charge.

The venue itself is gorgeous - a natural cathedral of hundred-year-old redwoods - and, with a built-in amphitheater, it needed no additional seating or decorations. The Botanical Gardens proper provided a variety of lovely scenery for our portrait photos after the ceremony. And the price, although not insignificant, was pretty reasonable compared to many other venues. We would certainly recommend this to anyone who wants an outdoor wedding in the East Bay.

The only problem we had was with the parking. This is not the Botanical Garden's fault, as the parking is coordinated by a separate University office. But boy, they really botched it up. They misspelled my name on all the parking signs, and when I complained, they fixed some of the signs but not others. Even worse, they failed to hand out parking passes to some of our arriving guests, who then received stiff fines when they parked at our reception venue! So, if you do book this venue, please exhort the Garden staff to keep a close eye on the Parking staff.

Held the ceremony at UC Berkeley Botanical Garden for my wedding in August 2011.

IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. I mean absolutely gorgeous. We fell in love when we visited the place and have been back many times since, but words cannot capture how wonderful it was to have our ceremony in the dappled sunlight between the redwoods in their redwood grove, or how much fun we had traipsing around through the many unique areas in the botanical garden to take photos with our wedding party.

Margie was amazing, very accommodating and friendly to deal with, though contactability - while not a huge problem - wasn't always 100% as easy as I'd have liked it to be. That was the only flaw. She helped me navigate some pretty specific requirements in terms of event insurance and things of that nature.

The area was reserved, our parking passes were perfect, everything was just terrific. If you like trees, flowers, the outdoors, or beauty of any kind, I can't recommend highly enough that you check out this venue.

Had my ceremony at the UC Berkeley Botanical Gardens in the Redwood Grove Ampitheatre. It is a beautiful and serene place with all the redwood trees surrounding you. You can't take a bad photo here.

This is the place to get married! If you have to have your wedding in a church for one reason or another, I feel so bad for you. My wedding was in the Garden of Old Roses, which was beautiful, colorful and warm on a July morning. You can also get married in other gardens such as the Redwood Grove. They get a few points off because I specifically paid for a rental monitor who I never saw once, I don't think he was even there. All my family and friends had to find their own way to the garden. And they were slacking on sending back our deposit. They promised it back a month after the date, we didn't get it until we called 2 months after and harassed them. But it was a great day. This website with virtual tours should convince you: http://botanicalgarden.berkeley.edu/rentals/albums.shtml
