Bold architecture, stunning views and a convenient downtown location make the Washington State History museum the perfect place to have your wedding. Located in historic downtown Tacoma, the museum offers grand indoor and outdoor spaces for both your ceremony and reception, private access to our current exhibitions, and beautiful views of the city skyline, Thea Foss waterway, and Mount Rainier. You are welcome to select a caterer from our preferred list or bring in a caterer of your choosing and your rental of the museum includes use of tables, chairs, and audio/visual equipment, pre-event planning assistance, an on-site event coordinator the day of your wedding.

Whether you choose to have a formal wedding or a more casual affair, the museum has beautiful, bold and unique spaces that can accommodate your ceremony, a formal dinner or cocktail hour, dancing, and more. Located at the Museum's main entrance, the Grand Lobby is the building's most open and accessible room. In the daylight, its bright airiness highlights the huge arches and beautiful balconies above, while nighttime lights from the Plaza and nearby Union Station add elegance and drama to any occassion, particularly wedding ceremonies and cocktail hours.

Located one floor above the Grand Lobby, the Ben B. Cheney Mezzanine provides a versatile space that is a popular space for wedding receptions and rehearsal dinners. The space provides beautiful views of the Grand Lobby, Union Station, and the Northwest Museum Store. With its rosewood paneling and bird's-eye view of the Great Hall of Washington History, the Mezzanine is perfect for almost any event, including receptions, seminars, luncheons, and plated or buffet dinners. Movable panels can make the area more secluded for private events or divide it for smaller workshops within a larger seminar. The Mezzanine also combines with the fifth floor Odlin Lobby and/or the Grand Lobby, adding even more versatility and elegance to a larger event.

The Boeing Amphitheater and Plaza offers an exceptional site for special out-of-doors events. Whether it is a wedding ceremony in the Amphitheater or an afternoon reception on the Plaza, this beautiful area is unique and spacious. Surrounded by classic red brick arches, the majestic view of the Cascade Mountains, and the Native Washington Plaza Garden, it is truly an impressive area in which to hold your wedding.

For a unique theater-style wedding, The Mount Tahoma Auditorium, which can seat 215 guests, has an enclosed projection booth, is disabled accessible, has a built-in stage area (entry left and right), and contains a built-in sound system with microphones and hearing assistance devices. The projection booth has audio/visual equipment available for renter use at no additional cost, other than the basic rental fee. The spacious auditorium lobby has its own outside entrance, as well as an inside entrance on the second floor. It is ideal for large wedding ceremonies. Read less

Loved loved loved this venue! The rental fee was very reasonable and workiing with Mark and Gary, the two event coordinators, was a dream! They are helpful, creative, attentive to detail, and professional. They helped me through the entire process and we mainly communicated by email. They were busy, I was busy, but I rarely had trouble getting hold of them. They set up all the tables and chairs and all the tables and chairs come with the venue. That alone was a huge plus for us. We rented tablecloths and decorated using the vases and candle holders that they keep in storage at the venue. We even used the museum's vases at the church during the wedding ceremony! The vases and candle holders all are free for you to use and they have a room full of them.
The only negative was the security guards we had on the night of the reception. Two of them were pushy, authoritative and way to cop-like for a relaxed wedding crowd that is there to have a good time. They managed to piss off quite a few of my family members and create unnecessary drama on the day of. Be sure to get certified bartenders and bring a copy of your banquet permit in case the museum loses yours. The two security guards we had over-reacted to a couple of things and yelled at my bartenders and some of my family members for no reason. After speaking to Mark about this, he comped the parking fees. All in all a wonderful venue and Jaime the security guard who works Sunday and Monday is awesome! I wish all security guards were like him! Got tons of compliments on the venue. People enjoyed the two hours of free exhibit time that comes with the venue rental. Would use the place again in a heart beat as long as I have certified bartenders (mine weren't because I didn't know they needed to be).
