I have very mixed feelings about the Galigula Bridal Services at Wee Scotty. While the final product was very good, the process of getting there was quite frustrating and wasted a lot of my time. Ultimately, I had to make 7 trips into SF from Danville, which took 1.5 hours to get there, 1 hour to get home and cost $10 in parking. I felt the dress could have been completed in fewer sessions if Lynne had better communication with her staff and/or called me ahead of time to let me know the work wasn't done so that I didn't take off half a day of work to drive into the city to try on a dress that wasn't ready.

I first took my dress there in October 2008 for a consultation to see if I was comfortable having my dress altered there. Lynne Gallagher, the owner, pinned my dress and seemed very competent so I decided to use them for my dress alterations. I took my dress back in March 2009 for the first official fitting. At that fitting Lynne pinned the dress and said minor adjustments needed to be made and quoted me $450-$650, saying probably closer to the lower end since my dress was simple. For my first two appointments Lynne was running about 15 minutes late. For my third appointment, I was 15 minutes late. I was coming from the East Bay and it took me almost two hours to get there, including parking. I felt bad about being late, but on the other hand Lynne had been late for my first two appointments so I felt she should understand. While she did understand, she also was very rushed, and told me that her next appointment was already there. I wasn't completely happy with how the dress fit, so we agreed that she would take out one of the side seams in the bust around a quarter of an inch, and do an overstich to keep the boning from poking out the top. Also, the boning was digging into my rib cage so she said they would pad the boning.

At the fourth appointment the seam had been let out, but when I asked Lynne about the over stitch she said that hadn't been done yet. I really didn't appreciate her having me come in to try on the dress when all the work was not done. Additionally, of the 6 pieces of boning, only 3 were padded. The two in the back were the most problematic, and neither were padded, but 3 of the 4 front pieces of boning were padded. To me, it seems like someone had not finished the dress, because it doesn't make any sense to pad just 3 of the 6 pieces of boning. Rather than admit that the dress wasn't ready for the fitting, Lynne made it sound like it was no big deal that the over stitch wasn't done and at a later appointment she claimed that the padding had been done, but they had done it under the lining, rather than over. That explanation doesn't even make sense, since three of the pieces of boning were padded on the outside. It doesn't make any sense that they would pad three over the lining, and three under the lining. For future appointments I called ahead of time and asked the assistant to physically go look at my dress and to confirm that the work was complete before I drove all the way into the city.

At the fifth appointment all six pieces of boning were padded, and the top stitch was done, but the ribbon they used to pad the boning irritated my skin. Lynne suggested that they cover the ribbon with a soft fleece. This was a very good idea and at the sixth appointment the dress fit beautifully and was comfortable. I left the dress so that they could press it and I could pick it up the Tuesday before my wedding. When I arrived on Tuesday to pick up the dress I looked it over and it didn't looked pressed at all. I also noticed a few spots of dirt, or something that looked like chocolate or dark glue on the dress. They offered to repress the dress (although I am skeptical that it was pressed in the first place) and to try to get the spots out with dry cleaning fluid. Rather than take responsibility, they pretended that the dress had been pressed, and suggested that I might have gotten something on the dress during one of my fittings. I told them that the dress had been in their care since March and that I had not gotten anything on it during my fittings. Furthermore, at my fifth appointment I noticed that the women who do the actual sewing were drinking coffee while sewing and ironing the garments they were working on. This was very disconcerting because I didn't like thinking of someone leaning over my wedding dress with a cup of coffee. My mother in law and I went to Starbucks to kill 40 minutes (Lynne's husband was very kind and put change in our parking meter for us) and when we came back the dress had been pressed, but the spot was not gone. Finally Lynne came out and took the dress back herself to remove the spots. At this point I was really frustrated. I was annoyed that the dress wasn't ready when it was supposed to be, that this had happened before, that my time was continually wasted, and worst of all they would not admit to any mistakes.

I took the dress home and it fit and looked beautiful on the wedding day. Therefore, my feelings are mixed because while I ended up with a great final product, the road to get there seemed unnecessarily frustrating.

During the dress process I also had Lynne do alterations on a bridesmaid dress. She did a nice job with the work, however she had quoted me $50-$75, but ended up charging me $110. At that point I was so fed up that I just paid the balance to be done with it all. The wedding dress however was within the estimate, at $550.

Found the owner/designer Lynn (Lynne?) and this place is actually within a kids' store (Wee Scotty) on Union Street. Highly unexpected spot to find for bridal alterations but SO REASONABLE and this woman really KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING! I wish everything went this well! Amazing design flare. I didn't use her for design, just alterations, but I would trust her with either. If you want a good deal and the best service, make sure to check her out.

i took my wedding dress in to wee scotty for a consultation fitting and worked with lynne. she was very patient and listened to all my concerns. she also mentioned that she had worked with my designer's dresses before which was very reassuring. other alterations places i called didn't have that experience. my wedding dress was delicate and had a very unique design to it so i wanted to make sure special care was taken when making adjustments. i do have to admit that lynne's prices were quite high, more than i had originally wanted to pay for alterations. but in the end, the peace of mind was worth it and my dress came out perfectly!
