Authentic, Intimate Storytelling

Some photographers spend a lifetime trying to capture just one perfect moment in time. Wendy Maclaurin Richardson has captured hundreds of such moments as one of the Bay area’s most celebrated wedding photographers. For Wendy, every wedding is a unique event where emotions swirl, relationships glow and where two lovers hold hands on the first day of the beginning of their lives together.

Born in Bangkok, Wendy has roamed Central America and studied in Europe, fine turning her artistic instincts. Her fine art has been praised by the New York Times and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Look at a Wendy Maclaurin Richardson wedding album and you immediately notice the authenticity, the intimacy and her uncanny talent for telling a deeply engaging narrative. What makes her photography so inspiring? The answer is in every photo. Read less

Matt and I loved working with Wendy and her assistant. We spent months searching high and low for the right person -- especially since we live on the East Coast and the wedding was on the West Coast! We felt really lucky to have met Wendy. The photos turned out beautiful and we couldn't be more happy! We'd definitely recommend her to other brides and grooms in the future. Wendy has a very calm, easy and soft spoken demeanor. She hardly missed a beat at our 100 person Sonoma Valley wedding.

FYI -- Wendy works in sort of an intuitive, journalistic style, so there was very little posing (just the obligatory wedding party and immediate family portraits were posed, as per our request). Since we did not pose everyone formally throughout the rest of the day and evening, we knew some shots would slip through the cracks. We were expecting to be missing a lot of photos, since so much happens at the same time at a wedding but we were very pleased to see that between Wendy and her assistant, most of the essence, the moments, the elements, and the people were captured... and they all looked so in the moment, it was the best!!

Maybe there were a couple more posed shots of extended family we could have had that we missed out on -- I know Wendy would have helped us get them, too, if only Matt and I had been more realistic about how much those few extra poses would have meant to us. SO, if you decide to go with Wendy or another photographer with this style of work, be sure to think really, really hard about what photos you can't live without and narrow it down to the bare minimum so there will be time for them too! (Luckily, Wendy was fabulous about getting a bunch of big group shots from up on top of a barn looking down on our entire group of guests, so nothing was lost in the end anyway).
