My husband and I registered with Crate & Barrel, Merci Registry, and Williams Sonoma. We were very lucky to have excellent vendors all around, and while our other registries worked very smoothly, Williams Sonoma Registry was an unmitigated disaster. When there were issues shipping to us, they parroted the same incorrect instructions over and over again. When we tried to tell them the instructions still weren't working, their emails back were very defensive, condescending, and implied we were lying.

Finally, we had them switch to sending packages to my workplace. I hated having to do that, but we'd lost hours of time trying to straighten things out and pick up packages. Undeterred, Williams Sonoma continued shipping gifts to our home address, with exactly the same results. I'm only sharing these details now after trying to talk to higher ups in Customer Service. After having asked several times to be referred to a manager for more detailed help, these requests are "passed along" and ignored.

In terms of the gifts we got, they are lovely and nice quality. The products are of course overpriced, but we had hoped that being able to count on an established brand and their customer service would make up for it (wedding planning is enough work!). Turns out you don't get what you pay for--or rather, our friends and family didn't. Now that the wedding is past, the only work we have left for it is dealing with Williams Sonoma. Talk about the honeymoon being over!

They sell beautiful things, but their customer services and logistics is a disaster. If you don't want to call them every time to get the registry updated, or to get a refund, or if you plan to return anything online, think twice before using them.

Here is what happened to me:
I returned a registry gift last November and waited at least 2 weeks for the refund. Nothing came, so I called customer service. The lady first said that a refund will be issued to the paying credit card. I told her immediately that it is the gift giver's card, not mine, so she agreed to send a gift card to my address. Nothing came till January this year, so I called them again. The man told me that a credit had been issued to the purchasing card. They cannot do anything, and I should call the gift giver if I want to money back. I was really angry because I had asked them NOT to do it specifically. And isn't it a common sense that a gift registry return should not be disclose to the giver?

I asked for a supervisor, the man return from the hold with the supervisor's solution: they can contact the gift giver, charge his card again, and give me a refund. Am I being unreasonable, but how is this a solution? They let my gift giver know about my return, and now they want to call him to charge him again, because I want money back? How can a high-end retail store like William-Sonoma do something like this?

Here are some other problems I had with them. Just want to inform future brides.
1. They don't update your registry after a gift is purchased. I had to call them to manually update the list.
2. Because of no.1, I received 2 sauce pots, and that's why I had to make the return.
3. I made 2 returns in total. In both cases, I didn't receive any refund 2 weeks after the items were delivered (indicated by UPS). I had to call them both times, to ask for the refund. First time they send me a gift card, second time was when the disaster happened.

Williams Sonoma has an excellent selection of kitchen tools and serving pieces. But their customer service is horrible. You can return items to a store without paying shipping, but you have to wait several weeks to get store credit mailed to you. Shipping is excruciatingly slow, especially immediately following the wedding. It takes a minimum of a week for Williams Sonoma to provide a UPS tracking number, and gifts ordered after the wedding took over 2 weeks. This us very inconvenient for couples who may be traveling on a honeymoon. Williams Sonoma allows couples to specify a different address after the event, but the delay in applying the address makes it useless. Definitely register with UPS MyChoice to help you manage Williams Sonoma's slow and inept shipping process. Also don't plan on exchanging gifts for other merchandise unless you want to wait 6 weeks to make the exchange.

HUGE issues with our registry... from duplicate items, to problems with returns and exchanges, to not getting the completion discount... TOTAL disaster. Would absolutely NOT recommend to anyone. You'd expect given the prices of things that they would value customers and want to create loyal customers for life, but apparently they're out to make a quick buck from weddings and couldn't care less about the customer experience. Have been told by other recent brides that they were treated similarly poorly.

With high expectations and excitement for a good friend's wedding, I tried to order a long list of products from WILLIAMS-SONOMA website in December, 2010
What a nightmare! So many errors and lost items from the final list. Multiple charges to credit cards for the items no on the final list.
Hours waiting via helpline with rude responses. Insist on charging shipping fee even after cancel all products. Luckly, my friend had a registry at another vendor, where online and on phone were all pleasant.

I have been shopping online for years and over hundreds on-line transactions with tons of vendors. WILLIAMS-SONOMA is the worst.
