Here are some sweet words straight from Paloma, the beautiful bride…

I am a big Project Wedding fan, having used it to research all of my vendors, and I also frequent your forum boards.

So let me tell you all about our wedding….
It was held at Viansa Winery on August 14th, 2008.  My now husband Scott & I live in the British Virgin Islands where we own The Dove Restaurant & Wine Bar.  We chose to have our wedding in Sonoma because we love wine, and we think it is absoutely gorgeous there!   We had 84 guests, only two of whom live in Sonoma.  The other 82 guests flew in from the Caribbean, Canada, England, Australia and all over the USA.  It was definitely a destination wedding!
My colors were dusty pink, grey and white.  I wanted it to be simple and chic, with a vintage feel.

Organizing my wedding from thousands of miles away was not easy, but luckily I had fantastic vendors who more than exceeded my expectations in every way possible!  Our wedding wasn’t exactly a ‘budget’ wedding, but by choosing to have it on a Thursday (as everyone was flying in anyway, we could hold it any day of the week) we were able to afford and choose vendors and a venue that were top quality, and whom we probably couldn’t have afforded otherwise.

Scott & I wanted to spend as much time with our guests as possible, so we urged everyone to arrive on the Sunday before. By doing this, we were able to have four days of activities!  We really wanted to include our guests in as much as possible. On the Monday we had our bachelor and bachelorette parties, which were all day events!  All the female guests were invited to bachelorette, and all the male guests to the bachelor. The next day (Tuesday) we organized wine tasting trips in limousines for our guests.  Each limo had it’s own itinerary, which meant that our guests got to visit wineries all over Napa and Sonoma.
The Wednesday was our casual rehearsal dinner at the private patio of the Swiss Hotel.  We invited all 84 guests to attend, and it was a great way to catch up with our families and friends. And of course Thursday was the wedding.

What helped pull together my vision was a few small touches (the hair pieces, the black and white dance floor, my silver chivari chairs) as well as our amazing band.  We actually play their music at our restaurant all the time!  They are a #1 billboard artist. You can listen to their music on iTunes.  Our first dance was to their song “Honey Pie”.

There are so many more things to mention (our kissing menu, a national anthem ’sing off’, a sabering of a huge champagne bottle during the cake cutting, a native american cleansing ritual during the ceremony). I am so excited about being one of your ‘real weddings’!

Many thanks,
Paloma

Thank you so much Paloma and photographer Jennifer Skog for sharing your gorgeous images with Project Wedding! And for all the loyal readers and awesome PW ladies, you do not want to miss the full editorial spread of Paloma and Scott’s Real Wedding.

I wanted to take some time to share something very near and dear to my heart. In fact, I have been waiting to highlight Joy’s fabulous and inspirational wedding to coincide with a very momentous occasion here at Project Wedding. Joy’s blog was such an inspiration when I was engaged, and had a large part in inspiring me to help other brides by founding Project Wedding with my husband Joe and good friend Srini in March of 2007. Now one and a half years later, Project Wedding has reached over 2 million people with a whopping 50 million page views!

In celebration of this momentous occasion, I will be publishing one awe-inspiring real wedding every day for the rest of the year! So get ready for some gorgeous inspiration… and many heartfelt thanks to Joy for inspiring me to help other brides by creating Project Wedding!

* Real Wedding - Christina + Ted

Posted on November 5th, 2008 by Margaret. Filed under Luxe for Less, Real Weddings.

When I got an email from Christina, I just couldn’t wait to share her AMAZING story. Christina, AKA Mrs.E2B, planned her wedding on Project Wedding for… drum roll please… less than $10K in the Los Angeles area. Christina was so generous to share her wedding photos with us, and her real wedding is now featured in our real weddings gallery! Here’s a teaser for Christina and Ted’s real wedding … make sure to check out the full editorial spread!

I was floored when Christina told me that she was able to plan her wedding for less than $10K in one of the most expensive areas in the country! Christina was so kind to share some of her tips and advice on how she pulled off a luxurious wedding:

We are both in our 40’s, divorced with 2 kids each.  We met on Yahoo personals.  He was looking for someone to see a movie with, I was curious about who was out there for me. He found me his first day on, I had been on for about 3 weeks.  His profile didn’t have a picture yet and I almost deleted him because I was getting hundreds of emails a day.  The only reason I looked is because he was  Libra like me.  Our birthdays are October 8 and 9.  I sent him a reply and asked for his picture.  The moment I saw it I knew he was the man I was going to marry. We met for the first time 5 days later on January 19, 2007 at the driving range in Moorpark. We fell in love immediately. We got married across the street at the Golf Club on June 29, 2008.

We have 4 beautiful children, 6,8,10 and 12. 2 boys and 2 girls.  Yes, we are called the Brady Bunch (am I dating myself???) LOL  He graduated from law school in May of 2007 and we are trying to pass the bar exam this time around!  I am a self employed interior designer.

The reception with food and alcohol and tip was $4,000.00. The vendor started at $55.00 a plate for the food. I told him I had $25.00 to spend.  We had beer and wine and a cash bar for hard alcohol. We had Tri-tip and BBQ with mac and cheese…it was a midwest feast (I am from West Virginia my husband is from Wisconsin)  I found my $1500.00 dress for $200.00 on E-bay, and it didn’t need altered. It was beautiful. The tent draping fabric was $1.00 a yard downtown.  The flower girl dresses were $15.00 each, US Angels at Marshalls!  They usually sel for $100.00 new. The votives were from Ikea, the cylinder vases I found at Home Goods, Ross and Marshalls over a 5 month period. They were $8.00 a piece and I sold them after for $10.00 and they were still cheaper than wholesale!

I bargained with the photographer. DJ, Florist, venue, etcetc….The fabric for the runners (gorgeous) was $5.00 a yard, I had them made by an upholsterer in Simi Valley for nothing. 3 yards of fabric for 2 runners.  I worked really hard but on the day of, when I saw the tent for the first time, I cried.  It was stunning and I had created it for next to nothing as far as weddings go!  Our entire flower bill was $1000.00 for 10 centerpieces, 9 bouquets, 8 bouts. Mine was gorgeous!!!

We got married on  Sunday but June is still high wedding month.  This wedding would have cost 3 times as much if I hadn’t been so resourceful.  And thanks to your online network, I was able to find so many ideas!

* Real Wedding: Nole + Andrew

Posted on November 3rd, 2008 by Margaret. Filed under Real Weddings.

Nole and Andrew were married in the DC area in one of the most beautiful weddings I have ever seen. Nole, also known as ngarey on Project Wedding, has an incredible design aesthetic that really transcended throughout her wedding. What amazes me about Nole’s real wedding is that her wedding cost less than $13K in one of the priciest metropolitan areas in the country, yet maintains the luxurious look and feel of a big budget wedding. Here’s a teaser of Nole and Andrew’s real wedding… make sure to check out the entire editorial spread in our real weddings gallery!

I love the homey feel of this wedding, and the touches of blue and lavender in the bouquet, centerpieces, and decor of the entire day. Thank you Nole for sharing your wedding with us, and for Punam Bean for capturing it all on film! And for more reading pleasure, make sure to check out Nole’s awesome blog, (oh so) beautiful paper.
