* Round Vintage Luggage

Posted on February 12th, 2009 by Margaret. Filed under Luxe for Less.

One of my favorite mementos of my wedding day is my bridal “purse.” While there are tons of gorgeous little white handbags, I really needed something chic that could also hold tons of wedding-day must-haves, like face blotting paper, two miniature bottles of white wine (red will stain!), and a few pairs of straws (don’t want to ruin your lipstick!). So I found the perfect solution… a round vintage luggage! It looked so Aubrey Hepburn-esque and held everything I needed on my big day. I still use my luggage to this day and every time Joe and I go on a trip, it reminds me of our wedding day.

I found this beautiful round vintage luggage on Etsy. It’s sold out, but there are tons of equally beautiful luggage listed on Ebay for $20-30. Just search for “round vintage luggage.”

* The perfect gold bridesmaids shoe…

Posted on February 10th, 2009 by Margaret. Filed under Bridesmaids.

I think I have found the perfect bridesmaids shoe.

This bridesmaids shoe comes in soft gold made with a combination of satin and fine leather. The heel is the perfect height - 4 inches for those of us who need a little extra oomph in the vertical height department. And best of all, this bridesmaids shoe is surprisingly comfortable, so much in fact, I just ordered a pair for myself for my best friend’s wedding in August! It’s on sale for $20 on Amazon (down from $70).

* A breathtaking affair in North Carolina

Posted on February 9th, 2009 by Margaret. Filed under Luxe for Less, Real Weddings.

Celebrity coordinator Lisa Vorce and photographer Elizabeth Messina have collaborated again to create this lovely wedding. The bride, Seneca, looks absolutely stunning in her dress with touches of vintage lace. The groom, Elton Brand of the Philadelphia 76ers, looked handsome in a suit and tie.

Having a celebrity-style wedding like Seneca and Elton’s can be achieved even if you do not have a celebrity budget. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, some of the details from this wedding can be created for your own wedding at less cost. For example, the long flowing ribbons in the ceremony decor can be done by purchasing ribbons in bulk from Costco. The reception decor utilized baskets of local produce like peaches and cherries, which can serve multiple purposes such as food, decor, and favors (in addition to being extremely eco-friendly).

Here’s just a preview… click here to see more of Seneca and Elton’s gorgeous nuptials.

* Beach Wedding Dresses

Posted on February 6th, 2009 by Margaret. Filed under Wedding Dress.

I love this dress by Amy Kuschel, named “Margherita.”

Besides the name (which personally calls to me *wink wink*), I love the look of this beach wedding dress. Beach wedding dresses or wedding gowns can give an elegant and airy touch to a bride’s look. The sweetheart neckline of this particular Amy Kuschel dress complements most figures, and I love the elegant details of the bodice combined with the sash that ties in the back. Can’t you just imagine yourself in this wedding gown with a flower in your hair, celebrating the start of your marriage together on the beach at sunset?

* PW loves Karen Wise Photography

Of the photographers I have had the pleasure to work with, Karen Wise is probably one of the most gracious and kind people I have ever met. Just recently, she collaborated with Joy (from one of our real weddings featuring Joy and Bob in Philadelphia) to recreate her website and it looks absolutely fabulous. Take a look… the images will not disappoint!

* An Eco-Chic Wedding in Vancouver

Posted on February 2nd, 2009 by Margaret. Filed under Real Weddings.

This Eco-chic Vancouver wedding was held at the University of British Columbia Farm. I just love how Jessica and Anthony infused so much of their personal style into this green and earth-friendly wedding.

Photographer James Moes shares a few details about Anthony and Jessica’s big day…

Beneath a small poplar grove neighbouring a blossoming field of buckwheat (for the UBC Farm’s bees to romance in), Jessica + Anthony were married on a gorgeous autumn evening. Beautiful families, fascinating childhood stories, and delicious local food.

Anthony is the Chief Scientific Officer of Engene, an emerging bio-technology company working towards an effective drug treatment of diabetes (among other chronic diseases). Jessica is a city planner with the City of Vancouver. Having lived on Cambie Street while the Canada Line subway system was being built underneath the road just outside my window (and the street was repaved & beautified), it was great to talk to her about this process and learn about the bureaurcratic conversations between city planners & engineers. Not to mention, she was able to answer my Dutch-influenced questions about dedicated bicycle lanes and medians in Vancouver.

Jessica had an amazing necklace. Anthony an amazing knit tie. And we were all treated to a delicious meal from Chef Taryn and her team from Savoury Chef Foods Catering Company - fine dining meeting the rigour of a 100 Mile Diet. The wedding was beautiful, the dance was indeed a party, and the cake was a crazy: two meters long & stacked by wine glasses!
