(Men)Gagement Ring
Posted on April 14th, 2009 by Elle. Filed under Rings.
I love looking down at my left hand at my “sparkly” as I call my engagement ring. It is beautiful and sparkly and gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling every time I look down. It says that I am betrothed to another, that someone out there loves me enough to spend two months’ salary. (:
Some time ago, my fiancé and I went look at wedding bands. Every time he put a ring on that he liked, his eyes lit up and I noticed this right away. My next thought was “why can’t he have an engagement ring too”? Something that would brighten his day when he looked down at HIS left hand, something that would come from my heart AND something that would tell the world that I own him! LOL!
I planned this carefully and he had no idea that it was coming. I purchased the ring on www.pyramidcollection.com. The inside of the ring reads “Now and Forever” and the same thing outside in Gaelic. I stopped at a bakery that sells red velvet cupcakes (his absolute favorite) and planned to cook a really nice dinner. I got home, started cooking and set the table for a romantic dinner for two. I placed the ring in a sticky note that read “will you marry me” and put them both in the cupcake box and told him that he was not allowed to open it until after dinner. Such torture!
We ate dinner and I could tell that he could hardly contain himself to open the little bakery box. He knew what was in there because of the shape of the box, but he didn’t REALLY know what was in there, now did he? He opened the box, picked up the sticky note and unwrapped the ring. He read the note and looked at me with a questioning look on his face. He asked “for real” and I said “yes, for real”. He started smiling like crazy and slipped the ring on. It was the same look that I had so many weeks ago when he was trying on wedding bands. He finds happiness in wearing the ring and what it means.
He and I joke all the time that now I own him and the only reason I gave him the ring was so that other girls would know that he was taken, but we both know the real reason. It is because I love him, because I can’t wait to marry him and because I want him to remember these things every time he looks down at his left hand.

What a beautiful proposal! I wanted to get him one too, but I don’t think he will wear two rings once we’re married. Is your fiancé going to wear both rings after you’re married? Did you coordinate the engagement ring with the wedding ring?

That is a really sweet gesture. I contemplated the idea for a while when we got engaged but didn’t do it because he didn’t seem keen on the idea when I hinted at it.

I got my fiance an engagement ring to and he loves it!
It has our wedding date engraved in roman numerals on the outside and he loves it!
It’s from here http://www.love2have.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=327

I love the ring!
What a good idea – maybe a little costly but whats money compared to love!

My fiance wanted a ring aswell, so a couple of days after he proposed to me we went out shopping & got him a ring!
I think its a nice idea – why can’t men wear a symbol of their engagement aswell!?

Yeah im surprised that most people don’t tie their bags. Sometimes my dad is so lazy that he just dumps it into the big bins if it’s too full and he can’t tie it. I give him a weird look every time. I usually separate the trash if it’s that bad.

I’m gearing up to reinvent my stale old site and produce an art weblog from scratch. In particular I’m attempting to quickly get a feel for that whole idea of weblog, and observed this article really valuable.

What a lovely proposal. I did think you were going to tell us you had pushed the ring inside the cupcake!

I think that’s great! We are modern brides and all. I also got my fiance a ring to match mine. We both have matching custom made aquamarine and diamond e-rings from Carats & Colors and they are to die for! I in all honesty have not seen anything more beautiful! Congratulations and God bless!

I love this!
I wish I had thought of doing this.. a lovely gesture. I AM picking out my FH’s wedding band as a surprise though, so on our wedding day he will be seeing the band for the first time.
I am working with a jewelry designer in Los Angeles named Liza Shtromberg. She makes really unique pieces that are perfect for my non-traditional man. I found out about her work from her blog :
http://lizashtromberg.wordpress.com/2009/08/27/unconventional-is-the-thing-with-mens-wedding-bands/
and then after checking out her website I went to meet with her. Now.. to make a final decision!
I am so excited to surprise my FH and love of my life!! I loved reading this post .. it got me even more excited for the surprise. : )
