* The Inspiration of Marriage

“Will you marry me” – this is quite possibly the question that creates the most excitement, happiness, and fear.  But when and if the word “yes” is spoken, the whirlwind that follows is fantastic! There are people to tell, meetings to schedule, and cakes to taste.  BUT let’s back up just a bit…

When you say yes, what do you think about??? Do you think about all of the presents that you will get at your reception or do you see yourself 20, 30, 40 years from now cuddled up with the person who will complete you? So often, brides (and sometimes grooms) get so caught up in the planning that comes along with a wedding that they do not stop to think about the actual MARRIAGE.

Great communication, working through problems, love, happiness, joy, tears, yelling, and anger are all part of a great marriage – yes, even the negative stuff.  Couples WILL argue and fight, but how you come out on the other side will be proof of the strength of your marriage.  The wedding is wonderful, but what about the future “great moments”?  Having children (if that is your choice), buying a new home, playing in the snow, cooking together, nursing the other back to health – those are moments that should also be cherished because life IS short.  When you say YES, think about sitting around just enjoying each other. When you say YES, think about how much you’ll love and miss your significant other when you’re not together. When you say YES, vow to yourself that the butterflies and nervous tingles will NOT go away.

Booked the venue…congrats…tasted cake…yummy…booked the photographer you just HAD to have….great! Spending your life with the person that should understand you most in the world…AMAZING…spending your life with the person who hugs you and makes all the bad things go away…WONDERFUL…spending your life with the only person that captured FOREVER in your heart…that is the biggest inspiration for your marriage.

* There’s No Place Like Home

Posted on April 1st, 2009 by Elle. Filed under Luxe for Less, Wedding Inspiration.

Because of the current economy, lots of couples are opting to exchange vows and celebrate at home. Whether you have your wedding inside during the colder months or outside during spring and summer, there are several things to know about having your wedding at home.

First of all, unless you own or can use a very large house, it probably helps to keep the number of your guests manageable and realistic. Home weddings are often very intimate and involve close family and very close friends. Usually, the décor is kept to a minimum inside the house, but outside can another story altogether. A backyard wedding can be a blank canvas and really is only limited by the couple’s imagination. You can do any theme you desire: posh backyard BBQ, A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, or traditional.

You can set up the ceremony as you wish using an arch or perhaps even a concrete bench with candles. Lots of couples rent tents and the decoration can be no holds barred.  You can sprinkle rose petals down the aisle or put luminaries on the ground to light the bride’s path. Trees can be used for hanging lights or even paper lanterns. Small, inexpensive chandeliers would also add some flair and luxury.

Catering can be done anywhere, so having your home wedding catered should be easy. Hiring a bartender is nowhere near as expensive as people might think and buying your own liquor at a wholesale club will save you money. Serve beer, wine (both white and red) and one or two signature drinks, plus water, soda and juice. Also having wait staff with passed appetizers for just the cocktail hour will add a touch of class to your affair.

If you’re outside on a chilly day or evening, think about getting a fire pit where your guests and can roast marshmallows for s’mores. Hot Cocoa, coffee and tea would be great to warm up your guests.
