A Classic Black and White Wedding

Mary, the lovely bride, recently sent me photos of her absolutely gorgeous wedding in South Africa! Mary and her husband both reside in London but flew to South Africa to celebrate their marriage. Guests flew in from all over the world to be at this ultra-glamorous event…

Wow, I love how PW is growing so much internationally! Here are some details from the lovely bride herself…

It was an African “glamour in the bush” wedding and highlights included guests going on a champagne & canape’s sunset cruise while we had our photos being take (and then we were taken on a speedboat to meet them – crocodiles, elephants and hippo’s included), an African Zulu dance once guests disembarked. A surprise presentation to us from our Swiss family, our First dance was the famous Dirty Dancing “last dance”.

Michael and I met 13 years ago when I was 15yrs old and he was 20! It was December – school holidays and peak season for sunshine and fun in South Africa. I was lifesaving on a Kidd’s Beach, South Africa (the most incredible beach where I grew up) when Michael approached me on the lifeguard hut. He sneakily asked to have his photograph taken with me (which at the time was hysterical as I had a boyfriend at the time). I had seen him around on the beach as a friend of his worked with me lifesaving in school holidays on the beach. Little did we know that photo was going to become ‘famous’ and part of our wedding invitation 12 years later! For Michael it was love at first sight & I discovered in his wedding day speech he knew then already that he was going to marry me!! He continued to pursue me for 9 months before we started dating & 12 years later we got married! Our proposal was in Switzerland and a stunning story for if you want it later on…

We currently live in London but flew to SA for our wedding, we had 85 of our favourite people in the world with us – 8 nationalities in total flew from all around the world to celebrate over a weekend. The festivities started with a “Welcome BBQ” at a neighbouring lodge on the Friday night before the wedding (we were all transported in Land cruisers). Saturday the guests spent enjoying Game Drives, Rhino trekking, tiger fishing or relaxing by the swimming pool/spa whilst the Bridal party prepared for the 3pm ceremony. The ceremony was outside under an Acacia tree overlooking expanses of water. I remember being completely taken back by everything and was so happy I couldn’t stop crying whilst walking down the aisle – it was more then I could ever have dreamed of! After the ceremony guests were treated to a sunset champagne and canapés boat trip on the Jozini waters. Guests then disembarked to another surprise – traditional African Zulu dancing in a boma seated around a fire.
