  • Well, you don’t actually need a degree to call yourself an Interior Decorator. Anyone can hang a curtain or recommend a wallcolor and call him/herself a Decorator.. . However … since you already plan to go to school, why NOT pursue a degree in design? Doesn’t have to be interior design, necessarily, but a strong background in graphic design/interior design … even fashion design … would be a great start for you. You’d also benefit from some art classes (for example, color-theory). . . If you DO decide to become an Interior Designer (and that field is HOT!), you will need to complete a Design Degree. A certified Designer can make a LOT of money. . . However, you don’t need to make that decision yet. Get a good basic arts-education before you commit to a specific degree … and meantime, learn all you can about the decorating side (read books, magazines, browse websites … take a part-time job in a home-store … learn the basics).. . Your career-aspirations may change (you might find, for example, that you have a talent for graphic design!), so don’t “lock” yourself into a career-choice just yet. Take courses that will prepare you to make a choice in the future … and keep your options as open as possible for now.
