Real Wedding – Amanda + Ben

Out of all the timeless details from Amanda’s black and white wedding, I am especially impressed by the creativity surrounding the table numbers! A DIY table card box that serves as decor, where guests can leave heartfelt messages to the bride and groom.

Amanda was kind enough to share some details about her day…

When Ben and I got engaged, we started on our journey to create a fun, evening wedding, that was cost-effective and had our own personal touches.  We chose a Polish Catholic Church in the Strip District of Pittsburgh for our ceremony because it was gorgeous and we loved going to Pamela’s after mass on Sunday for brunch (Pamela’s is a local hot spot – recently visited by Mrs. Obama!).  Then we knew we needed a downtown locale that screamed “Celebration!” and the Sheraton Station Square did the trick…  Gorgeous views, contemporary design, and great service.

Our engagement was about 15 months, and we spent the cold Pennsylvania winter months enjoying the wedding planning process…  The black and white damask table runners were made in our living room, the vases were purchased at a local craft store, the favors packaged with love while watching movies on Friday nights, the table numbers utilized pictures of Pittsburgh landmarks we had taken over the summer, and our “guest book” was a set of painted boxes for guests to sign that would house bottles of wine for us to celebrate our first five anniversaries.  As the wedding neared, we made sure we had the candy for our candy buffet, making sure to order enough Gummi Penguins, after all our own Pittsburgh Penguins were in the Stanley Cup playoffs!

The day of the wedding was a whirlwind to say the least!  We met to take pictures in Station Square, making sure to include our future goddaughter Alexandria in a few (my MOH and sister was pregnant at the time!).  After the ceremony we popped open a bottle of champagne and mingled with guests during the cocktail hour, where they were entertained with a strolling magician, appetizers, and music.  The sun set over the Monongahela River as the Best Man gave his speech, dinner was served, and we danced the night away!
