* Fun Lovin’

Posted on June 30th, 2010 by Kate. Filed under Photography, Real Weddings.

Davina + Daniel are two of my very favorite wedding photographers.  Their ability to capture the emotion of a day is simply amazing… and they always seem to be photographing the coolest couples!  Rachel and Ian’s wedding was no exception. I was so drawn to these images because they radiated love, laughter, and pure fun.  And what could be better than that?!

* Wedding Hair

Posted on June 29th, 2010 by Margaret. Filed under Beauty.

How you wear your hair makes a big difference in completing a wedding day look. There are a lot of things that people consider. For example, the formality of the event, the neckline and shape of the wedding dress, and the most important factor… what kind of hair looks good on you. I love the look of a low chignon because it looks formal without being stuffy, and with your hair up you don’t have to worry about it getting tangled in the wind or while you’re working the dance floor. In any case, I’m sure there are tons of things to consider… so make sure to look for inspiration in PW’s wedding hair gallery (15,000 wedding hair ideas!) and then do at least one trial run before the big day.

* Inside Mark’s Garden

Posted on June 25th, 2010 by Jeannie. Filed under Flowers, Uncategorized.

If you aren’t from Los Angeles, there’s a very slight chance you may not have heard of Mark’s Garden florist. He and his team are the “it” florists here in L.A. When a celeb is having a party or getting married - they call Mark! I am excited because they are finally posting some shots of events they’ve done on their site. Here is a look at a very extravagant wedding in Malibu. There’s something to be said for going all-white!

* Pretty & Pink Lemonade

I am completely in awe of this pink and yellow party, done beautifully by Pen n’ Paper Flowers. It’s actually a birthday soiree, but I could see this theme as a wonderful bridal bash for some lemonade-lovin’ girl.

* Search for a ‘Non-Wedding Dress’

Posted on June 22nd, 2010 by Jeannie. Filed under Wedding Dress.

I am getting married in September ( umm no, not prepared at all!). It is going to be a fun, casual affair (think rustic touches, mason jars, welcome banners and a giant dessert table) and definitely not a scene for a traditional wedding gown. I am on the hunt for the perfect dress and would love to know which of these “non-wedding dresses” is your fave!

Dress #1: I keep thinking about this Ralph Lauren number. Love that it is crocheted!

Dress #2: This sweet, one-shouldered David Meister.

Dress #3: I am a little obsessed with this Alice + Olivia sequin number.

 Dress #4: This Amsale strapless dress — simple, modern and fresh.

Dress #5: Sue Wong’s embroidered masterpiece

* Wedding Guest Dresses

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by Margaret. Filed under Luxe for Less.

This weekend I spent a ton of time at the mall scouring racks of dresses for a dress that’s appropriate for a summer black-tie optional wedding coming up in a few weeks. Finding a dress is really tough for me… as a girl with curves it is difficult to find something that fits right and is also appropriate. The dress cannot be too short (knee length is best) and should not show too much cleavage or take attention away from the bride.

Also, with weddings the color is also a touchy subject, because wedding guests should never ever wear a white dress (though a white/black print might be ok if the print is not predominantly white). In addition, red is often inappropriate for Chinese weddings because that is the color traditionally reserved for the bride. Black is also an iffy color for Chinese weddings and depend on the taste of the bride and groom - some people believe that all black or navy blue is very dressy and appropriate for black-tie weddings, while others (like my relatives) believe that wearing all black or navy blue to wedding is bad luck because it looks like funeral-wear.

So you can imagine how tough it is to find a cute dress given all those constraints! Well I probably tried on dozens of dresses and found a few that might work for my body type and for a summer wedding … some fit the constraints and some didn’t…
