Recession or not, brides are looking for ways to save money on their weddings, that’s why Project Wedding is delighted to announce The Budget Savvy Bride Contest! Simply create a community article by clicking here telling us how you saved (or plan to save) a bundle on your wedding and you’ll be entered to win one of three great prizes.

My wedding hasn’t happened yet; my wedding date has been set for April 16, 2011. So far, my fiance & I have been able to cut costs in such a way regarding our wedding. The colors of the wedding are burgundy & ivory. My fiance’s suit is burgundy which we bought from the flea market for $50. I went shopping at Ross’s with my best friend and ended up finding my wedding dress there. I went into the store intending to buy some summer clothes for my daughter which I did get, but I ended up finding my wedding dress as well. My wedding dress which is a Calvin Klein ended up being $50. My five year old daughter from a previous relationship will be my flower girl. We already have her dress as well. The dress she’ll wear is burgundy to match my fiance. My daughter’s dress didn’t cost us a thing because it was already in her closet; it was given to us by a cousin whose daughter outgrew the dress. We’re on a tight budget due to financial hardship which is why we’re keeping it traditional (I work part time and my fiance’s unemployed and actively seeking employment) so that’s all we have so far. What we have so far is all that I’ve mentioned above. We plan on having the bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids purchase their dresses from David’s Bridal. Some of the men already have white linen suits from another wedding so we’re going to have them wear them to our wedding. As far as entertainment, my fiance has a cousin who will DJ for the reception. As far as the food is concerned, we plan to recruit relatives in both our families to do the cooking. As far as paying to get married, having the ceremony performed will be free since we’re getting married at my best friend’s church. We have a lot of details in between that time to sort out, but I believe the good Lord will make a way out of no way in order for us to have the wedding of our dreams.

My fiance and I are getting married in November 2010 and we have a very very tight budget as we have to fund the whole affair ourselves and have recently set up our business wso pennies are stretched to say the least!

For our wedding weekend, we have hired a huge fort on the south coast of the UK, and are having a very down to earth, three day long house party!

We have hired vintage crockery and cutlery for £100, bought vintage tablecloths, I have found a beautiful wedding dress on ebay for £80, we are self catering (as me and my family are good in the kitchen!), making our own cakes and favours, making winter lighting out of recycled jars (that all our guests are collecting and bringing) and tealights, decorations homemade paper lanterns and unused origami paper, strings of fake pearls, I’m making dried flower bouquets, home designing and printing save the dates and invites, suits and bridesmaids dresses are from vintage stores … I could go on, you kind get the idea I am sure!

Both my hubby to be and I are very hands on people and are creative for a living so we are used to DIY’ing and are good at cutting prices but not quality!

The only thing we are paying full price for is for the registrar to marry us!!

I don’t know what I am going to do when our wedding is over … try and organise someone elses I guess!
