It’s all TMI!
Posted on July 27th, 2010 by Jeannie. Filed under Things we heart.
I am learning a very valuable lesson as I plan my wedding. I have shared photos with my friends and family of potential dresses, arrangements, invitations, decor, etc. and if I had to do it over again … I wouldn’t share ANYTHING! Mom doesn’t like the short dresses, soon-to-be mother-in-law doesn’t want the groom to wear a light suit, sister doesn’t get the rustic decor, brother is over the cupcake dessert table … the next time anyone asks me anything, I am just going to tell them it’s a big surprise and they’ll just have to wait for the day. My advice to anyone getting ready to wed is to share the least amount of information possible. Plan your event the way you want and tell them NOTHING

SERIOUSLY! I’ve taken to saying “you’ll see at the wedding”. My fiance too.

With you! My best friend said to the colors “Wait, you mean together?”. Um, yes I do.

Couldn’t agree with you more! But a word of advice, be honest with any well meaning enquirers in a way that nicely tells them to back off.
I clammed up and stopped sharing information for that same reason, but then got in trouble with my mum about her perceived ‘lack’ of planning. You can’t win!

Why do people do this?
It’s your wedding. Your expression of love. Why on earth other people think they have ownership over that is beyond me. Go with what you and your fiance want and BAH! to anyone else!

Haha! This is sooooo true! I know my Mom felt really left out of it for most of the planning b/c after a few disastrous attempts at brainstorming which left me feeling tattered, I got quiet fast. Now, 2 weeks out, she’s back to gung-ho mode and I can just hand her something and she’ll do it. Four months ago I would have gotten, “Are you sure you don’t mind having tattered edges on these flags?” to “No problem!”

You shouldn’t have to compromise regardless. It’s your wedding; not theirs.

Ugh, how I wish that were true. I’ve shared little about our wedding…and now I have a million people hounding me about what it will be like.
Does no one like surprises?? Does no one trust us to plan this thing?? (Both my fiance and I do types of event planning in our respective careers, so it’s not like either of us are coming at this thing from scratch!) Sheesh!

I am excited about the dinner overlooking the ocean, which is surrounded by tiki torches! It looks very beautiful and oh so romantic.Does no one like surprises??
