Speechless over this butterfly cake:

She actually baked this Indian/Irish wedding cake for her cousin’s wedding:

* Giveaway from Bleu Garters!
Posted on March 28th, 2011 by Kate. Filed under Announcements.
When I think of bridal garters.. I typically think of some ugly frilly satin thing- let’s be honest. That is, of course, until I was introduced to Bleu Garters, a brilliant line of feminine , sophisticated … and all around exquisite garters.
Bleu Garters began with a simple thought from LA based designer Jaime Lawson - to makeover the poor, rejected garter from an afterthought to a beautiful keepsake that can be passed on for generations. Each piece is handcrafted in California from fine silks and antique laces. We’re giving one of these gorgeous garters away (up to a $100 value)!
How to win? It’s sooo easy. Just visit the Bleu Garters Shop and choose your very favorite garter from the collection. Then, return to this post and tell us which one it is in the comments below! We’ll choose a winner shortly after 12pm PST on Monday, April 4, 2011. Be sure to leave your email address in the comment form so we can get in touch if you’re the lucky one! Official Rules.
These little lovelies make great gifts for bridesmaids and showers too… Now thru the end of April, Bleu Garters is offering 15% off to One Lovely Day readers! Use the code 1LovelyDay when you check out. {Click here} to head on over.
The winner of this giveaway was Kristina, comment #90. Congratulations and thanks to everyone!

There are so many things to love about Shu and Lance’s elopement, photographed by the wonderful Kate Harrison. I can’t get enough of the bride’s creative vintage style.. the movement of the photos…and the shoes! Shu wore a lace mini with a draped pearl back. The dress was custom made from a 1940’s pattern- and she sewed the beading to the back of the dress the night before their San Francisco nuptials!
On that note, I also came across a line of gorgeous, vintage-inspired bridal accessories called Othelia Grace. Their pieces are really lovely and such a great option If you don’t have the time or energy to scour vintage shops!
Have a lovely weekend… xo

I really need to visit Australia! I think I would love the people there. I certainly love the creativity that I see coming from Down Under — and the Polka Dot Bride is no exception. She inspires with her incredible DIY ideas ( which feature step-by-step tutorials and downloads) and gorgeous real weddings. Here’s a little sample:

* Thrilled About: The Video Guest Book
Posted on March 23rd, 2011 by Jeannie. Filed under Reception, Things we heart.
I wish, wish, wish I had seen this when I tied the knot, but at least I can pass it along to you ♥. This is one of the most brilliant ideas I have seen for a guest book in a long time, and it doesn’t involve an elaborate DIY project!
It’s called Thrilled for You: The Video Guest Book. Guests can simply record their very own personal messages of happiness and love at your event - and you have them forever! All you’ll need is a Mac, the iPad2 or the iPhone with the front facing camera - along with their app. For the Mac, you choose from 24 themes and they will customize everything just for you - just simply install their software on your computer and set it up like a kiosk at your event. For the iPad and iPhone, you can choose from 12 themes and just pass around at your wedding, or shower, or soiree!
Here’s a sample of a few of their templates:

See a recorded demo on their site - and let me know if you decide to use this. I might try it for an upcoming event!
Bonus!!! The folks over at Thrilled for You have a few special offers for you: Two coupon codes for the first two people to respond for the free iPad2 app (regularly $19.99 each!)
