Guest Post: Save the Dates with a Twist!
Posted on June 26th, 2012 by Kate. Filed under Things we heart, Wedding Invitations.
Editor’s Note: Today’s post was contributed by the fabulous Rachel from Benign Objects… an absolute expert when it comes to discussing utterly unique stationery concepts. Enjoy!
Over the past few years, brides and grooms-to-be have become increasingly creative when it comes to crafting a show-stopping Save the Date. After all, Save the Dates are the very first thing your guests will see, so they should really set the tone for your wedding. From whimsical to elegant, there are a bevy of beautiful and unique ways to set your special day apart from the typical photo postcard Save the Date or magnet.
Check out some of the amazingly cool inspirations below.
no. 1 Decoder Save the Dates

The bride, Ming, created these Save the Dates herself and bought the decoder glasses online for about .20 a piece. She has her own design company now called Pounding Mill Press. Source: Ruffled Blog
no. 2 Pencil Us In Save the Dates
I love these clever Save the Dates from Mèlangerie Inc; they can be found here. All the info is customizable and you can even include a message on the pencil.
no. 3 Confetti Save the Date + no. 4 Tie Save the Date

Right: This is a wonderful, and very DIY-able approach to a Save the Date. A bunch of vintage ties and an iron-on logo make for a very unique nuptial notice. This creative idea resulted in an unexpected surprise- many of the guests wore the ties to the wedding!
no. 5 Handkerchief Save the Date
Something that serves the dual purpose of being informative and a keepsake, such as these custom printed handkerchiefs by Benign Objects, makes for an unforgettable gesture.
no. 6 Balloon Save the Date
Balloons are great for setting the tone for a super fun wedding, like these from Martha Stewart. You can make your own at Balloon Imprinters.
no. 7 Plantable Save the Dates
Lowcountry Press created these very eco-friendly Save the Dates. The bride and groom were inspired by the concept of putting down roots with their wedding, so they decided to incorporate handmade ceramic plant markers and letterpress printed text on plantable paper. Source: Oh So Beautiful Paper
no. 8 Calendar Save the Dates
Here’s a festive, State Fair-inspired 12-month calendar Save the Date that will actually look chic on a fridge. It goes beyond a typical magnet Save the Date but is also affordable. Check them out here.

What a creative and fun piece! Why send out run-of-the-mill save the date notices when couples can use something that not only announces the big day, but also makes a lasting impression with their guests? Especially loved the suggestions on using men’s ties and ladies’ handkerchiefs as keepsakes touting the pending nuptial date!

Love these ideas! My favourite is certainly the decoder one with the glasses, but a close second is the one with the pencil attached. Great to know that couples want to be creative even with their save the dates! Great fun

I love these though it makes me wish we’d been slightly more imaginative with ours than a quick Facebook ‘save the date’ event and a couple of texts! Mind you, it did the job and we only had one couple decline.

I love these creative ideas. Its so nice to see some imagination in a wedding. When I got married, I made the wedding invitation wording rhyme.
