DIY Wednesday: Bulb Favor Boxes
Posted by Kate. Filed under DIY Wednesday, Do It Yourself, Favors

Bulbs are the perfect favor for a fall wedding: they just need to be planted sometime around the first frost, and come spring, beautiful flowers will bloom- no green thumb necessary! In no time at all, you can put together a batch of beautifully packaged bulb favors that your guests will enjoy now, and in a few months to come!

Step One. Purchase a variety of bulbs from a garden center, and stock up on lidded kraft boxes and Spanish moss from the craft store.

Step Two. Cover the bottom of the boxes with Spanish moss, and pack the bulbs on top.

Step Three. Cover with a lid, and your bulb boxes are ready for a pretty ribbon (we used velvet ribbon for a fancy touch) and a name tag.

Step Four. Use smaller boxes as guest favors, and fill a larger box as a maid of honor gift.

A Classic Romance by Deep Grey Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

If you’re tried-and-true traditional, you’ll love what’s next!  Remie and Paolo’s Brisbane wedding encompassed their classic style with all things simple and romantic: from the mansion setting, rich red roses and every detail in between.  Their aim was to minimize ‘fuss,’ and instead focus on elements of pure elegance. The red, black and white palette made for a dramatic look, captured in timeless photos by Deep Grey Photography.

This photo is dashingly beautiful, no? It was a windy day in Brisbane, but otherwise blue skies…  Remie selected a strapless ball gown by Winnie Bridal and was lucky enough to snag it off the rack – it’s so perfect on her! Her bridesmaids wore one-shoulder frocks by Barijay, bringing just a hint of modern to the classic day.

Paolo and Remie finally met after seeing each other ‘across the room’ at several events over the years.  (Sigh, the kind of story I love…) An introduction by a mutual friend eventually led to their breathtaking, sunlit ceremony in front of a staircase and cathedral windows at the Old Government House.

They planned an intimate reception for eighty, featuring dapper black and white details and warm candlelight.  Family and friends contributed their talents and creativity to the evening:  Remie’s sister made the cake and some friends performed a surprise skit, re-enacting key moments in their relationship.  (Remie and Paolo said it was unforgettable and hilarious)!

Wishing the newlyweds decades of romance…

A Haunted Hotel Real Wedding by Taylor Lord Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Real Weddings

I must say that I’m so excited to share a haunted hotel real wedding this week… and I’m especially excited because Katelyn and Brad couldn’t have hosted a more gorgeous event that was so perfectly them.  They married in true Colorado fashion: mountainside on a hauntingly beautiful, bright fall day.  Brad grew up in Denver and Katelyn’s family spent summer vacations in Estes Park, so the sunny mountain town was a natural choice for their wedding. They booked the picturesque Stanley Hotel, infamous for inspiring Stephen King’s The Shining. (Eek- gives me chills)!  With the Front Range as their backdrop, they celebrated with a dashing color palette, lots of sweet family time, and tons of dancing.  Enjoy these photos by the extraordinary and very talented Taylor Lord Photography.

Katelyn’s bridesmaids were decked out in very-rewearable frocks from BHLDN and bold seasonal bouquets by Floral Design of Europe.  The bride, who happily admits that she is obsessed with her dress, wore a lace, sweetheart neckline gown by Wtoo.  Ok- confession time- I have a bigtime crush on this bridal party!

Katelyn and Brad both attended Baylor University, but it wasn’t until a mutual friend introduced them in Austin, post-college, that they met.  Looking back, they realized that they attended a lot of the same parties and had some mutual friends, but their paths never crossed.  They were friends for about a year and a half,  meeting up for casual lunches every now and again, before finally getting together.

Katelyn has loved fire trucks ever since she was little and it just so happened that the Stanley Hotel has a collection of antiques. Knowing this, Brad pulled a few strings and surprised her by secretly arranging their getaway in a big, gorgeous antique truck!

Day Four: NYC Bridal Market Top Ten {Part Two}
Posted by Kate. Filed under Wedding Dress

{Continued from Part One}

no. 6 Stopping by Sarah Seven

If I’ve never mentioned how much I adore Sarah Seven.. well… let it be known.  She is adorable.  Her new collection?  Equally so.  She’s a fellow PNW-er (Pacific North Westerner) so, needless to say, I have an affinity for her relaxed, cas-glam vibe. A stop by her showroom was a total treat!  Here are four new looks- a delightful play of  metallic laces, spun gold, and sequenced tulle.

no. 7 Australian Chic from Amanda Garret

While in NY, I had the great pleasure of being introduced to the minimalistic, yet incredibly stunning looks from Sydney-based designer Amanda Garret.  The mini sequence dress below was my very favorite from the collection.. It’s take-your-breath-away beautiful…

no. 8 Sareh Nouri New York

Meeting talented new designers is one of my favorite things about market.  I’m as all over the up-and-coming as I am the seasoned genius’ behind the established, tried-and-true labels.   Basically, fresh fashion creativity in all its forms is fab in my book.  Which brings me to introduce a snippet from the newly launched Sareh Nouri New York collection!  I love the romantic styling and textured skirts on these two pretties:

no. 9 Rafael Cennamo’s Stunners

Some collections are light, airy and take your breath away.  And some collections are drop. dead. gorgeous.  I’d put Rafael Cennamo’s couture designs in that category.  When I’m face to ‘face’ withe these beauts, I can’t help but pour over the incredible construction and immaculate embellishments.  Is it possible to have an aura of couture?  If so, these gowns have it!  Rafael rounded this season’s collection out with both chic, slim-fit styles and beautiful ball gowns.

no. 10 Embracing Mother Nature

When this glowing mama walked the runway at Pnina Tornai, first I noticed how totally lovely she looked in the soft pink gown.  Then of course, my mind ran wild with curiosity!  During the post-show, I caught up briefly with Jenette Kruszka- the PR Director for Kleinfeld, where the gowns are sold, and she gave me the scoop.  This gorgeous model walks for Pnina every season, and this season she happened to be pregnant.  Pnina was inspired to design a gown just for her so she could walk in the show.  Sooo sweet ♥

Well that’s a wrap, my fashion-frenzied friends.  Our highlights/re-caps from the long weekend are complete AND I still have so. much. more to share.  Stay tuned for trends and more juicy fashion from the runway in our weekly ‘Fashion Friday’ segment, and in the meantime, pour over the full collections here.
