DIY Wednesday: Kindling Cone Favors
Posted by Kate. Filed under DIY Wednesday, Do It Yourself, Favors

By: Victoria Hudgins

For a thoughtful, cozy little favor, send your guests home with fire kindling cones.  I love them for a fall/winter wedding, and they are so fitting for a lodge setting!   These kindling cones are easy to make and a favor your guests will be able to put to use during the chilly winter months.

Step One. Print out the ‘Kindling for love’ tags and use a two hole punch to cut them out.

Step Two. Gather newspaper to use. I love the idea of using a paper that is somehow meaningful to the couple- maybe it’s the issue that the engagement announcement appeared in or the paper from the bride or groom’s home town. Just be sure to check the stories you include. Don’t use anything too graphic or unhappy for a wedding!

Step Three. Cut each sheet of paper into fourths and pile natural kindling in the center. We used pine needles, pinecones and local flowers.

Step Four. Overlap the sides of the paper and gather at the bottom. Tie off with ribbon and insert a few matches through the tie.

Step Five. Attach the tag.

Romantic Luxe Portrait Session by Joel Bedford Photography
Posted by Kate. Filed under Photography

I can’t tell you how in love with this portrait session I am.  The couple?  So gorgeous. The flowers?  Stunning. That Reem Acra gown?  Totally dreamy.  Joel Bedford did such an incredible job with this one.  Mat and Shannon have been together for a very long time (since 1999)!  and they married in a destination wedding a few years back.  After having their first son, Beau, and returning to Ottawa- the city where they met- it was the perfect time to relive the wedding experience. Justyna and Joel took the lead producing a romantic, luxe portrait session for them.  Feast your eyes, friends…

Michelle VandenBosch designed the stunning textured bouquet of orchids, cock’s comb and dahlias. It’s downright one of the most beautiful fall bouquets I’ve ever laid eyes on.   Shannon’s side braid was accented by a few pretty blooms creating a look of relaxed, natural luxury.

A big thanks to Justyna and Joel… and many congratulations to Shannon and Mat on thirteen years together!
