Kristen + Ryan: Rustic Purple Romance in Alabama by Green Tree Photography

This small-scale Hunstville wedding immediately stole our hearts! As a surprise snow shower fell over the historic Annabella at Cedar Glen, bride Kristen said ‘I do’ to Ryan in an intimate ceremony filled with romantic shades of violet and plenty of vintage-inspired details.  Some friends (including the officiant and two of the bridesmaids) traveled from as far as Ecuador to attend the celebration, which Kristen describes as “one of the absolute happiest days of our lives.” Chase and Jan of Green Tree Photography were on hand to capture the romance, and we’re beyond delighted to share their beautiful photos with you today.

Proof that love can be found just about anywhere: Kristen and Ryan’s hometown optician actually set them up! Though there was an instant connection (Kristen remembers telling a friend “this is exactly the kind of man I want to marry”), dating seriously was put on hold when she left to teach in Ecuador for a year. The pair remained in contact throughout the separation though, and Ryan proposed six months after her return. At their December ceremony, the couple honored the sanctity of their vows with a salt covenant. This biblical tradition asks that each party participating in a contract (marriage being the ultimate contract) brings a vial of salt to mix together. Each party takes half of the mixture, and the contract may only be broken when every last grain of salt can be identified and returned to its original owner.

The duo opted for a standing reception inside the Annabella. It was a truly DIY affair—the centerpieces, decorations, silhouettes, and programs were all made by the bride, groom, and MOB. Close friends provided the cake and the music, drawing the whole celebration into a tight-knit circle.

“Words cannot explain the impact that Ryan has had on my life,” Kristen says of her new husband.  “He makes me laugh and loves me in such an unselfish way that never ceases to surprise and touch me.” Sigh—how lovely. We wish the couple many more years of that exact kind of bliss! And thanks again to Green Tree Photography for sharing their big day with us.
