Carly + Darion: An Elegant Ivory Dinner Party by Nancy Aidée Photography

Between the billowing ball gowns and sharp tuxedos, formal weddings will never go out of style. Carly and Darion’s Texas nuptials are no exception to the rule—fifty years from now their classic wedding style will be just as relevant and ravishing as it today. Scroll through for the story of their elegant dinner party celebration, photographed by the talented, Houston-based Nancy Aidée. Done in shades of grey, ivory, and blush pink, it’s the perfect way to start the week!

Carly and Darion met as undergrads at Baylor University. After four years of dating, Darion proposed in the Bahamas! For her big day, the bride opted for a subtly tiered gown by Watters, and her best girls donned floor-length Jenny Kim Couture dresses with the same sweetheart neckline. The tech-savyy couple created a hashtag (#Carlion) for their wedding so friends and family could tweet and instagram memories of the celebration.

Allison Butcher of Keely Thorne Events helped the couple bring their romantic reception vision to life. Held at Houston’s Lakeside Country Club, tables at the sit-down dinner were draped in grey and ivory linens and topped with tea lights and stunning ivory floral arrangements by  Blooming Gallery.  Several of the night’s best surprises played out on the nearby dance floor, including an unexpected appearance by a “Sexy Sax Man” impersonator  (an inside joke between the bride and groom) and a kick line last dance (several of the guests were from Carly’s high school drill team).

The happy couple honeymooned at the Riu Palace in Cabo San Lucas, and currently reside in Alabama. Hop on over to the full gallery for even more details from the day, including a close-up look at the bride’s brooch-accented updo and their creative spin on the traditional guestbook. Thanks again to Nancy Aidée for sending over the gorgeous photographs!

  • Formal weddings are elegant and very romantic. Usually people don’t mind spending a lot for traditional wedding ceremonies. Based on the way it looks, white is still the perfect color to define weddings.

  • A good photography tip that can help you is to not be afraid of getting your work critiqued by other people. Putting your work out there can leave you feeling vulnerable, but it’s very valuable to know how other people perceive your work. It can help you improve a lot.

  • Focus your efforts. When you are attempting to better your photography skills, you will be more successful if you choose subjects that interest you. If you love people watching or lively images, practice with those subjects rather than landscapes. Practice keeping your subject in focus while crafting a shot that excludes distracting elements such as telephone lines, trash, or conspicuous signs.
